We are Engineers, Nautical and Electrical, and believe that every problem has a solution. We have  built and repaired items from pump parts to ships power transformers, fixing generators and shrouds while underway and on the dock.  Engineers we are, but we love yachts and all that goes into them. 

Our head office is located in the ACI Dubrovnik marina  but we travel and service the southern Croatia area (from Split  to Korcula and south to Montenegro.)

Liveaboard Cruisers Guide to Sailing in Split, Croatia

The first time we visited Split in Croatia is was for Yacht Week. I know that will make some yacht cruisers gasp in horror, but that crazy week was one of my first introductions to what living on a yacht might be like.

Fast forward a few years and we're living aboard our 45ft catamaran, SV Liger.

After 3 months hauled out in an Italian shipyard we relaunched and sailed straight for Split, Croatia. We needed to do more work on the boat and had heard it was an area that was well suited for yachties who needed to get things done.

We ended up spending around 2 months anchored off the coast there so here's what we learned in that time.

MARINAS & ANCHORAGES

In Split we predominantly anchored in the Split North West anchorage . It's a protected area with no anchoring fees and good access to the city. The bottom is sandy and when the anchor was set we experienced very little drag. Most of our time was spent there and the only annoyance was how close some of the local boats would come on the way past.

The other anchorage we used was Kastela . We went there to shelter from an predicted incoming storm. There were lots of dinghy docks nearby and facilities to use while we waited for the winds to change.

In terms of marina's most of the ones around Split are members only and as a visitor you can't even use the dinghy dock to access their chandlery. Personally we chose just to stay at anchor but if you do want to go into a marina these are the main 3 options.

CUSTOMS & IMMIGRATION

The Split harbor master and local customs & immigration office are a short walk away from one another in the main harbour. The customs dock isn't signed but they just used the short one next to their office.

GROCERY SHOPPING

At the Split North West Anchorage the best supermarket within walking distance is Lidl Spinut . If the weather is good you can also drive your tender across the inlet to the INTERSPAR Hipermarket in Kastel Sucurac. There's a set of stairs going up from the small beach to the supermarket above, just watch out for submerged rocks on the approach.

Over in the Kastela anchorage go to main road, which is Cesta Franje Tudmana, and walk east. There you'll find a Super Konzum, Lidl, Plodine and SPAR all in a row. Sometimes we'd get picked up in the tender from the Spinnaker Restaurant at Marina Kastela so that the walk back to the anchorage wasn't so long.

We found the easiest way to get around Split was to walk or use the Bolt rideshare app. It was only 15 minutes walk from the Split North West anchorage into town so we generally only used Bolt when we needed to travel to stores that were further afield.

IMPORTING YACHT IN TRANSIT GOODS

When we tried to import yacht in transit goods into Croatia tax free we were told we'd need to use an agent. The agents we reached out to quoted around 300 euro for a parcel that was worth the equivalent of 280 euro so in that instance it was cheaper to just pay the tax. For larger shipments, such as a sea container full of goods, paying an agent to save the tax can absolutely be worth it.

Something else to keep in mind is you can get a VAT (or PDV) refund on goods you buy when you take them out of Croatia, provided you meet the conditions. We were able to do it for a brand new outboard so it was definitely worth the trouble. What is a Chandlery

In medieval times, a chandlery was the area of the house which kept candles and the wax used to make candles., origins of the chandlery the term "chandler" originates from the old french word "chandelier," which itself comes from the latin "candela," meaning candle. in medieval times the primary source of light during darkness, before electricity, was often candles, and also used in religious ceremonies. chandlers were originally candle makers and sellers, crafting candles from beeswax and animal fat (tallow). the chandlery was the store which kept candles and the wax used to make candles. the chandlery transition into maritime supply during the 15th and 16th centuries maritime trade and exploration expanded and the role of the chandler evolved significantly. the chandler selling candles at seaports to the seafarers soon found that long voyages required more variety of essential goods including rope, tar, sailcloth, tools, anchors as well as candles. this, in turn, saw the simple candle supplier transform into suppliers of a wide array of goods and maritime accessories. the naval dominance of the british empire and its navy needed a healthy and well organised supply chain to serve and support its ships. fast becoming indispensable, the chandleries were now providing ships with everything needed for a long voyage. this diversification marked the beginning of the chandler’s role as a maritime supplier. the east india company being one of many who relied on the chandleries for outfitting their ships bound for far away shores. global trade of chandleries the 17th and 18th centuries, often referred to as the golden age of sail, saw an explosion in global trade and naval warfare. chandleries flourished during this period, particularly in major port cities like london, amsterdam, and boston. ships setting off on long voyages required extensive provisions, and chandleries rose to the occasion, stocking items ranging from food and fresh water to navigational instruments and medical supplies. the chandlers role extends beyond mere provision, the chandler often acted as intermediaries between ship owners, captains, and various suppliers, ensuring that ships were adequately prepared for the challenges of the sea. this period also saw the rise of specialized maritime chandleries that catered specifically to the needs of naval ships, commercial vessels, and fishing fleets. industrial revolution and beyond the advent of the industrial revolution in the 19th century brought significant changes to the chandler trade. the introduction Dalmatino – 30.05.-06.06.2022

There isn’t a better way to visit Croatia and experience each of the islands than traveling on Dalmatino. The boat was stunning. The boat crew had the best service I have ever experienced. This trip will be very hard to top. We were directed to the best experiences on each island, food was absolutely delicious and beautiful at the same time. I would highly recommend this yacht and staff to anyone who has the opportunity to travel to Croatia!

I would give a six star as a vacation spot and a 100% satisfying rate. The staff was so helpful and so so nice. Food was over the top in presentation, variety and was delicious. The Captain chose just a perfect route through the islands, the right amount of village time as play time. I would do this trip every year on Dalmatino!

Rara Avis – July 2022

Trip of a lifetime! The boat is gorgeous, the food was amazing, the scenery & water were incredible and the staff-crew….what can I say?! You were friendly, fun, and took the many challenges of our group in stride (covid+,stomach viruses, etc.!) with a smile and a willingness to do what we needed to have an amzing week. (I mean…how many groups requested 5 full dinnera and 5 bowls of plain white rice? 😛 ) It was such a special week for us to spend with our adult children & our friends and it was made even better by the wonderful & attentive service we recived at every turn. I’m not sure we’ll manage to get the whole family over here again, but Jim & I are sure going to try! Thank you again for everything-you all work very hard and it shows and is very much appreciated! From the moment I stepped on this boat I was greated with smiles & genuine care. I have never had an experience such as this where I was treated like I was special. Each and every one of you made this week memorable and I will never forget it. Matea made sure our thunderstorm of a room was always inviting and shared her last hairtie with me so I could enjoy the water. Keke made sure I always had milk with dessert before even asking and kept us all in a good mood. To the chef who gave us a personal tour of the bars so we could experience the true culture. Rocco despite us leasing hi min the beginning made sure to act professional as always. Stipe on our day to the market gave us the submarine tunnel. Last but not leats, the Captain who ensure no matter the weather there was always a plan for fun in place. Overall, I wish I couls stay with you forever and I have never had such a wonderful time. Sincerly and truly, thank you from the botton of my heart. There i san open door for any of you at my home in Los Angeles. I hope to see you again one day. SS

I have no words to explain the marvelous adventure we have sailed with Captain Tom. It has been the upmost pleasure to embark in this journey around the Adriatic Sea with such a wonderful crew. Ivana is super attentive and dedicated to fulfilling the needs of all my fellow travelers who have stepped aboard Captain Tom’s deck. The sights seen could never be converged in the slightest. The sea was magical. The food was amazing. Everyday was a delight to my mouth. We cannot wait to come back next year. Thank you to the entire crew.

Altair – 08.2022

Carefree and a wonderful cruise down the Adriatic Mastercharter was the best Croatian travel agency I have dealt with in the last ten years. Ivana, Mirna and Mate are devout professionals who will tender to your every need. Ask a question and you will get an answer momentarily, if one of them is busy one of the others will respond. No detail is overlooked and everything is done to your satisfaction. They stay true to their motto which says “Everything is possible for one who believes”.

I wanted to charter a gulet for a family cruise and for my particular needs they suggested the Altair which turned out to be the perfect choice. The name Altair is derived from the bright star, aka Alpha Aquilae, which shines as the brightest star in the constellation Aquila the Eagle. It describes this gullet perfectly; it is beautiful, clean and well maintained. The crew is a family run affair; Captain Dare is a capable sailor and a wonderful host. His Dad Duje is a fantastic cook and a Captain in his own right and Dare’s sister Luce (Lucy) is a wonderful hostess and a do everything gal who will attend to your every need. Also there is Lovro, a very capable sailor who makes sure that the boat is securely tied, he will help you with all the heavy lifting, will provide you with the swimming toys once you are in the water and will watch over you while you swim.

The cruise down the Jadran (Adriatic Sea) was absolutely fantastic. We were in and out of secluded coves for swimming in the crystal clear water during the day and visited famous towns like Hvar, Korčula, Polače, Ston and others in the evening. It was a perfect combination of rest, relaxation and sightseeing.

I would like to take this opportnity to thank the crew once more for making me and my family feel like we were a part of their family and for providing us with a carefree, restfull, exciting and wonderfull experience. Special thanks goes out to my new friend Duje Junior (Dare’s son) who made our trip that much more enjoyable, this is from his new friend Brankec.

Corsario – 25 June 2022

We had the Best time in Corsario, aside from the amaizing places and smooth ride, the crew was so warm, dedicated and helpfull. Stand up padlle, water motor rides, snorkeling, biking and awesome more experiences we lived in this boat. Thank to this boat and the crew we could had an inforgivable family time! I hope we can come back and finish our travesy through Croatia. See you soon!!!

Romanca – 18.06.-25.06.2022

Global Rating: 5/5 (Excellent)

We travel often and far, and we have been around the world and had amazing experiences. But our vacation on the Romanca, chartered via MasterCharter, was truly unrivaled! Airline travel these days can be beyond hectic, and our vacation seemed to get off to the wrong start when the airline lost our luggage. Ivana (Mastercharter) and Andrea (owner of the Romanca) arranged a speedboat to take a passenger to get medication that had gone missing with the bags and PERSONALLY tracked our luggage down and had it hand-delivered to the boat as we were eating breakfast under sail. Additionally, a member of our party had a bicycle accident, and Marin (Romanca’s captain) was on location in minutes with the town’s doctor and sat with us through the process of going to the hospital and getting a few stitches, then offered to buy the injured person an ice cream, (because everyone knows when you get stitches, you get an ice cream). Despite our two mishaps, all 15 of our party fell madly in love with Croatia, the Adriatic, MasterCharter, and most specifically the Romanca and its crew. The Romanca is by far the prettiest wooden gullet on the Adriatic; you cannot help but share the pride of her crew as she sails into port. You can tie her up next to the largest, newest ship in any marina, and know you are the one privileged enough to call the Romanca home. Valentina and Mario knew everyone by name on the first morning and never forgot our food or drink preferences — my latte was being made before I could sit at the Romanca’s massive table. Victor is a world class chef and a true artist who goes out of his way to please everyone. He woke up in the middle of the night to feed the three of us who waited for the doctor to finish his work on our patient, and we got a beautiful steak with rice and salad, totally unexpected and above and beyond. Ivan, the first mate, went out with several of our younger “sailors” (as per our request) when they wanted to go to a club at midnight. He watched over us and protected us like family, even at the sacrifice of his night’s sleep. And Marin navigated us through it all, recommending phenomonal wineries, restaurants, and excursions on the islands. I’m not prone to write reviews, or be loquacious, but for this trip, I must! These people are so special and amazing; they find a magical way of outshining the scenery. That said, Croatia and her islands are not to be missed, their beauty is unparalleled and the experience is unmatched. Do yourself a favor, spend a week on the Romanca… just don’t book the weeks we want, we will be back!

IT IS HARD IN LIFE TO BE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO EVER BE ABLE TO BE IN A POSITION TO BE ABLE TO VACATION ON A BOAT SUCH AS ANIMA MARIS. HOWEVER, IT IS EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO HAVE AN EXPERIENCE THAT EXCEEDS ALL OF YOUR EXPECTATIONS.THIS TRIP WAS BEYOND WHAT WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. WE HOPED IT WOULD BE THIS WONDERFUL, BUT TO HAVE EACH DAY BE BETTER THAN THE DAY BEFORE HAS TRULY BEEN A DELIGHT. THE BOAT OF COURSE IS A WORK OF ART,A MIX OF MODERN YET STILL ROMANTIC. THE CABINS ARE SO SPACIOUS AND THE BATHROOMS AS WELL.NOVAK’S COOKING WAS SPECTACULAR AS WELL AS ALEXANDER. ANYTHING WE WANTED DELIVERED WHICH AS WE ALL KNOW IS NOT AN EASY THING TO DO. SONIA KEPT OUR CABINS AND LAUNDRY IMPECCABLE AND THE REST OF THE CREW WAS WITH US ON DECK TIME WE NEEDED ANYTHING AT ALL. THE LOADED THE WATER TOY INTO THE SEA EVERYDAY SO OUR KIDS COULD RIDE THE SEABOB FROM MORNING TILL NIGHT. THEY WATCHED CAREFULLY AS THEY FLIPPED OFF THE TOP DECK IN TO THE WATER. CAPTAIN MARIO ALWAYS FOUND US THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BAYS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, PICKED THE BEST CREW. THEN WE CAME TO VICTORIA WHO ALL DAY, EVERYDAY MADE SURE WE HAD ANY DRINK OR SNACK WE WANTED. Captain Luka was very professional and helpful, his brother Damir and the chef were excellent too. I think the Steward, Ivor was a bit out of his depth as he was really a deck hand that had stood in for a Stewardess from what we learned, and whilst he tried hard, my only recommendation would be that an experienced stewardess would have added polish to the whole drinking and dining experience.
