Genesis - 2023
OUT OF THIS WORLD
At 80.07 metres, 1,700 Gross Tons and with a top speed of 29 knots, Genesis, previously Project Cosmos is the world’s largest and fastest all-aluminium motoryacht with conventional propeller propulsion system. Winch Design created a streamlined yacht with innovative design traits but still retaining the Heesen DNA: muscular sportiness and timeless elegance. The design, engineering, technology and craftsmanship in this extraordinary yacht represent a milestone not just for Heesen, but for the yachting industry in general.
First impressions
Some of the most notable features on board Genesis are the fully-rated helicopter landing pad for a Eurocopter EC135 that transforms into an outdoor cinema with stunning effect; the crystal elevator from the lower deck to the sun deck for chic accessibility; the breath-taking seven-metre pool with contra-jets for swimming, paired with a waterfall and glass bottom; the sumptuous beach club with a sunken walk-around bar and large transom and side platforms. To give her the necessary longitudinal strength, we designed and patented a complex, full-length structural reinforcement system that we call The Backbone. Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design and Heesen Yachts have taken this project to the next level of quality, to create our most intricate and precious interiors so far.
Step aboard
Genesis is a testament to the pinnacle of design, engineering, technology, and craftsmanship of Heesen. The interior design of this project takes inspiration from nature, particularly natural mathematics like the Fibonacci sequence, shaping the core of its architectural aesthetics. Clear, graphic lines define a clean, uncluttered space, creating an environment that exudes architectural excellence. Exceptional materials like backlit onyx, straw marquetry, and crystal glass panels are skillfully integrated within these lines, accentuating their innate beauty. The interior is further adorned with custom-designed furniture crafted from a combination of glass, marble, metal, and various wood types, adding the final touches to the overall décor.

Heesen is delighted to announce that on November 19, 2021, YN 19480, Project Cosmos was launched at the shipyard in Oss.
At 80metres, with a gross tonnage of 1,700GTand a top speed of almost 30 knots, she is the biggest and fastest all-aluminium yacht ever built. The challenges involved in creating such a large and complex yacht are extreme, but made a perfect fit with Heesen’s history and expertise. Precision aluminium construction, high performance and the finest Dutch craftsmanship are steeped into the DNA of this shipyard. Cosmos is the ultimate expression of Heesen’s ability to build daring projects that stretch the imagination of its engineers and craftspeople.
Thanks to the dedication of the Heesen teams and the shipyard’s loyal subcontractors, who all worked tirelesslythrough the pandemic, the yacht was launched on schedule in perfect Dutch style.
What makes Project Cosmos so impressive is itsimmense sizecombined with aremarkable top speed of almost 30 knots. This is achieved thanks to the lightweight and low-drag hull design, honed to perfection by Heesen’s naval architectson an iteration of the Fast Displacement Hull Form devised by van Oossanen, and assembled, millimetre-perfect, by Heesen’s welders. Ensuring sufficient longitudinal strength was one of the biggest technological challenges facing Heesen’s engineering team, who designed and patented the Backbone – an intricate, full-length structural reinforcement system. Power comes from traditional,if highly refined, diesel propulsion -four engines, two gearboxes, variable-pitch propellers and ultra-innovative Promas rudders.
“Today, we are celebrating the launch of a unique yacht,” said Heesen CEO Arthur Brouwer. “Unique not only for our shipyard, as she is the largest we have ever taken on and represents the pinnacle of our achievements to date. Cosmos is also unique in the industry – the largest and fastest aluminium yacht in her class ever built.” Cosmos’selegant exterior comes from the renowned British studio of Winch Design. Clean lines, a sporty silhouette and the extensive use of glass create a timeless, dynamic profile, which will look as good in twenty years as it does today at launch. “The Winch vision for Cosmos was to retain Heesen’s sporty DNA but blend it with an innovative, futuristic spin. Curved glass forms smooth, sculpted shapes, creating a feeling of slick, contemporary charm,” said Jim Dixon, Director of Yachts and Aviation at the British design house. “The brief stressed that she had to have a strong and unique signature whilst retaining the Heesen DNA that we all know and love. The emphasis was on creating a fast looking yacht that sits elegantly on the water, a feat that has been cleverly achieved through the use of sculptural, curved forms and perfectly balanced proportions.” – James Russell, Associate, Yacht Exteriors
Sinot Yacht Design and Architecture was responsible for the light and soothing interior design that makes guests feel at home from the moment they step aboard. While the overall palette is neutral, splashes of a range of blue hues are infused into the design throughout. The piece de résistance is undoubtedly the beach club, with its side and stern platforms. The backlit onyx bar with centrally positioned seating is the focal point of this ample and airy space close to the water. With the size, weight and performance of Project Cosmos so intimately connected, Sinot collaborated closely with Heesen’s in-house engineers to ensure that their stringent weight calculations were always met.
Followingher launch, Project Cosmos will remain at Heesen for commissioning before undergoing intense sea trials in the North Sea commencing in February. She will be delivered to her owners in April 2022.

At 80 metres, with 1700 GT and a top speed of almost 30 knots, Project Cosmos is the biggest and fastest all-aluminium yacht ever built. Heesen launched the superyacht with yard number 19480 at its shipyard in Oss on 19 November.
The yacht was launched on schedule despite the pandemic. What makes Project Cosmos so impressive is its immense size combined with a remarkable top speed of almost 30 knots. This is achieved thanks to the lightweight and low-drag hull design, an iteration of the Fast Displacement Hull Form devised by van Oossanen, and assembled, millimetre-perfect, by Heesen’s welders.

The world’s largest and fastest all-aluminium luxury yacht, PROJECT COSMOS (YN 19480) , has been in production at Heesen for the past year and the Dutch shipyard has unveiled more details at a London press conference of her onboard amenities and styling as she takes form. Not only will M/Y COSMOS be the World’s largest all-aluminium superyacht but she will also be the fastest.
Once delivered Heesen superyacht Project Cosmos will become the largest all-aluminium yacht
Capable of a top speed nearing 30 knots and a cruising speed over 20 knots, making her twice as fast as the majority of yachts in her size category. This is achieved using four MTU engines totalling 19,000 HP instead of the standard configuration of two that are fitted into most Heesen vessels. M/Y GALACTICA SUPERNOVA from 2016 is an exception to this rule as she was installed with a third engine to boost propulsion and give a maximum speed of 30 knots and a cruising speed of 25 knots.
At 80m/265ft, luxury yacht PROJECT COSMOS will certainly stand out for her size alone, however her exterior styling from Winch Design has sweeping curves in the superstructure from the bow to the stern, and each is separated by a colour scheme of black, white and silvery grey. There is an effortless flow between these outdoor social areas and the warm, inviting interiors by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design , where the modern interiors have an art noveau element in the bold and sophisticated lines and crisp, clean patterns found within.
Heesen superyacht Project Cosmos
The outdoor areas come with a helipad and alfresco cinema on the foredeck, a pool with a waterfall feature on the main deck aft, and a beach club which joins with the swim platform to create a spacious sunbathing and lounging area next to the water as drinks are served from the bar. Guests will never want for seating across the decks and this would make her ideal for hosting dockside parties during events such as the Cannes Film Festival .
Within, wenge and black onyx are the materials of choice in creating warm and refined living areas, and a burst of gold in the artwork or sculptures creates a focal point in each room.
“[The owner] did not want anything too shiny,” a representative from Sinot Exclusive yacht Design explained. “He wanted something very neutral but with some burst of colours as well as beautiful textures.”
The beach club is a particularly desirable environment as it is illuminated from above by sunlight through the glass-bottomed swimming pool and has two sea terraces. The tender garage has been moved under the foredeck helipad, where a custom-designed limousine tender is launched through side hatches.
Project Cosmos will be able to reach a top speed of 30 knots
The main salon features a fireplace with a widescreen TV above for cosy evening gatherings, and crystal panels in the ceiling and along the walls enhance the ambience after sundown. Guests have a spacious marble steam room to unwind in after a session in the gym, and the accommodation continues the same sophisticated colour scheme with sumptuous beds to sleep up to 12 guests over six en-suite cabins. Connecting all of these spaces is a central staircase that according to the design team, is inspired by the petals on a flower.
Behind the glamour is a significant amount of engineering, some of which is being undertaken by Heesen for the first time: The engineering team came up with a patented ‘backbone technology’ which works similar to an I-girder, providing all the structural support necessary without increasing the overall weight. Performance is therefore optimised, allowing PROJECT COSMOS to achieve impressive speeds.
Heesen stated at the beginning of 2019 that luxury yacht COSMOS was on schedule for delivery in April 2022 and production is continuing as planned for this date.

Heesen launches its largest superyacht
- November 25, 2021
The Dutch shipyard has launched the 80m Project Cosmos, an all-aluminium superyacht with an exterior by Winch and interior by Sinot.
Heesen has launched the 80m Project Cosmos (YN 19480) at its shipyard in Oss, where she will remain for commissioning before undergoing sea trials in the North Sea from February 2022. Named Galactica , the six-stateroom superyacht will be delivered to her owners in April.
With a length of 262ft and an interior volume of 1,700GT, she is Heesen’s biggest build to date and the biggest all-aluminium yacht ever built. An iteration of the Fast Displacement Hull Form by Van Oossanen, the lightweight, low-drag hull design has been honed by Heesen’s naval architects and contributes to an expected top speed of 29 knots.
Power comes from traditional diesel propulsion – four engines, two gearboxes, variable-pitch propellers and ultra-innovative Promas rudders. Ensuring sufficient longitudinal strength was one of the biggest technological challenges facing Heesen’s engineering team, who designed and patented the Backbone – an intricate, full-length structural reinforcement system.
Arthur Brouwer, CEO of Heesen, said: “We are celebrating the launch of a unique yacht. Unique not only for our shipyard, as she is the largest we have ever taken on and represents the pinnacle of our achievements to date, Cosmos is also unique in the industry – the largest and fastest aluminium yacht in her class ever built.”
Winch Design drew the elegant exterior, with an emphasis on clean lines, a sporty silhouette and the extensive use of glass.
Jim Dixon, Director of Yachts and Aviation at the British design house, said: “The Winch vision for Cosmos was to retain Heesen’s sporty DNA but blend it with an innovative, futuristic spin. Curved glass forms smooth, sculpted shapes, creating a feeling of slick, contemporary charm.”
Sinot Yacht Design and Architecture was responsible for the light interior design. While the overall palette is neutral, splashes of a range of blue hues are infused into the design throughout.
Standout areas include the beach club, with its side and stern platforms, while a sunken, walk-around, backlit onyx bar with centrally positioned seating is the focal point of this airy space close to the water. The aft main deck features a 7m glass-bottom pool with contra-jets and waterfall.
The foredeck can be a fully rated helicopter landing pad for a Eurocopter EC135 or an outdoor cinema, while a crystal elevator links the lower deck to the sun deck. www.heesenyachts.com
