The flagship yacht of the Westport fleet takes luxury cruising to a new level

The Westport 164 luxury yacht series built by American yacht builder Westport is one of the most sought-after and revered yachts in its size range on the market. Launched from the Pacific Northwest shipyard, Westport first began producing the 164-foot series in 2006. Built in all fiberglass, the Westport 164 is one of the larger series produced by Westport. The hulls of yachts in this series are the work of Bill Garden and the styling is by the renowned Donald Starkey. As with other Westport yachts, the Westport 164 series provides a perfect platform for an owner to customize the yacht’s interior to an extent, including the capability to rearrange non-structural bulkheads. Westport luxury yachts offer exceptional seakeeping, stability, top pedigree, world-class design and a layout ideal for a successful charter program. The Westport 164 price reflects all the incredible facets of the yachts in the series and is why Westport 164s hold such high resale value.

W164 Superyacht Overview

All yachts in the Westport 164 series are ABS classed and MCA compliant. The Westport 164 has a top speed of 25 knots and cruises at 22 knots. She is powered by twin 3,650hp MTU engines. The yacht’s draft measures in at seven feet, three inches (2.2m) and ensures that she can access even more-shallow islands, inlets and is ideally suited for cruising locations such as The Bahamas. The Westport 164 also offers an impressive range. She can cruise 5,200 nautical miles when cruising at 12 knots. Her range at 16 knots is reportedly 2,900 nautical miles.

Tri-Deck Layout

Westport 164 luxury yachts for sale typically have three decks with alfresco spaces for guests to enjoy. The main deck aft is outfitted with an alfresco dining space. Some Westport 164s also have a main-deck foredeck seating space. The bridge deck also often has alfresco dining space and a seating area forward of the bridge. The sundecks of the Westport 164s are outfitted with Jacuzzis, full bars, alfresco dining and lounge spaces.

Yacht Accommodations

The 30-foot (9.2m) beam of the Westport 164 provides the perfect platform for a variety of configurations. As is customary for Westport, the yacht’s interior is customizable and often is designed by the owner. The yacht does offer a six-stateroom configuration. The most popular version has the full-beam master stateroom on the main deck, the VIP stateroom on the bridge deck where it has a private terrace and the additional staterooms below deck. Some opt to use one of the below deck staterooms as a gym rather than a fourth stateroom. The yacht typically carries 12 guests, but in a five-stateroom-plus-gym configuration, the Westport 164 would welcome 10 guests.

The Westport 164 yacht for sale is ideally suited for cruising with family and friends. Owners interested in chartering also should consider the Westport 164 as it is a very popular model on the charter market due to its well-thought-out and malleable layout. Westport 164 brokerage yachts for sale retain their high level of quality, are designed to stand the test of time and retain their value. $4.5 Million Price Drop on Vango

  • By Yachting Staff
  • Updated: January 15, 2015

164 Westport Vango

164 Westport Vango

Brokers Kevin Merrigan and Wes Sanford at Northrop and Johnson have announced a $4.5 million price drop on the 164-foot Westport Vango .

Previously listed at an asking price of $24.5 million, the yacht is now being offered at $19.95 million.

Vango , delivered in 2006, was Hull No. 1 of the Westport 164 model. She was built on spec and bought by the owner of a Westport 130 who wanted to move up in length overall. Donald Starkey collaborated with Westport on design, while William Garden handled naval architecture.

Six staterooms accommodate 12 guests, with additional quarters for 12 crew. Features include an elevator, helicopter capability, a sundeck hot tub and what Northrop and Johnson calls “high cruise speeds.” (The standard 164 spec gives a top speed of 24 knots, a cruising speed of 20 knots and transoceanic range with twin MTU 16V4000 diesel engines.)

Vango is ABS-classed and MCA-compliant, should a new owner wish to put her onto the charter market. Currently only two 164 Westports, Aquavita and Harmony , are available for charter worldwide.

Westport 164 Vango

Westport shipyard’s Vango is the first of its 164-foot series and the first composite production yacht of its size ever built. With its lightweight construction, the $34.5 million vessel achieves more than 29 mph at half load despite a generous beam and a draft suitable for the shallow waters of such destinations as Florida, the Bahamas, and southern New England.

As Westport delivers additional 164s, it will not change the structural bulkheads, and it plans to maintain the size of the crew quarters, engine room, and wheelhouse. But customers can swap the elevator for storage space, choose a master suite instead of a skylounge, and have a guest cabin instead of a gym. Designer Donald Starkey’s spacious, well-conceived interior scheme should please most boaters, but some modifications will be possible. Vango displays various combinations of mahogany and pommele sapele in the furnishings and bulkhead panels, and high-gloss lacquer lightens the appearance of some furniture pieces. Rich, upholstered panels add texture, color, and softness and help attenuate noise.

On the lower deck, Vango has three guest cabins, each of which connects to the crew area. This configuration enables a crew member to make up the cabins without having to carry loads of linens up or down the main staircase. The bridge deck holds a bar, VIP suite, and lounge, and the main deck contains two salons and an expansive master suite with two baths. The exterior spaces include a lounge on the main aft deck, two lounges on the bridge deck, and an enormous sundeck.

The formidable naval architect William Garden, who has created hundreds of boats in a career that has spanned more than 60 years, designed the high-performance, semidisplacement hull. Garden, Starkey, and Westport president Daryl Wakefield have worked together before, on the custom 160-footer Evviva , which was built for Orin Edson, the majority owner of Westport, in 1993.

Open House on Westport superyacht Vango with Northrop & Johnson

Kevin Merrigan of Northrop & Johnson will be hosting an Open House on the 50m motor yacht Vango on Monday, 14 April at Sunrise Harbor Marina in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from 4pm to 6pm.

Vango was built by US superyacht yard Westport to ABS class and MCA compliant, and she launched in 2006 as the first in the yard’s 164 series. A custom Donald Starkey interior is in mahogany wood and rich, upholstered fabric panels. She accommodates 12 guests in five staterooms plus 12 crew members. The VIP suite is on the bridge deck while the master suite and two large saloons are on the main deck. Below, there are a further three staterooms, a double and two twins, and all have entertainment systems and full en suite bathroom facilities.

Other features include a helicopter deck and an elevator, while twin 3,650 MTU engines give her a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. Reportedly, the name Vango comes from the owner's keen admiration for Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh.

Vango is asking $24.5 million.
