Hi all, these 3 boats are my shortlisted favorites for my first yacht purchase around $100,000 USD that I can get in Asia. And they have all been favorites (I wish i could afford a Baba 40. Baba 35 - asking $90,000. Tayana 37 - asking $120,000. Hans Christian 38 - asking $110,000.
Baba 35 information?
Baba 35 information? So, I've been looking at various sailboats for the past few months with an eye towards living aboard in Boston. I've been a sailor for most of my life and am very comfortable on boats. My perusing has taken me from classic Cabo Rico's to more modern styled boats like Moody's and Endeavours.
Let's talk motorsailers/pilothouses
A 1980 Ta Shing Flying Dutchman Baba 35 Pilot House, designed by Bob Perry; one of about seven in the world. The thing I really like about this pilothouse is how well it integrates into the shape of the boat and the cabin.

Sailboat capsize Nov 8 Providence River. Is it a MacGregor?
The nice gentleman across the dock from me has an older (i think 80s) 20 ft Macgregor that's comparatively nice looking and seems to sail decently, he only has a smaller Honda on bthe back which pushes it just fine . His seems to be more of a dedicated sailboat. When did they switch to the powerboats with masts look?

It spent its early life on one of the great lakes and more recently Portsmouth, NH. I hail from Northport, NY and sail on LI Sound. The boat you're asking about looks like an early Baba 40.
Open stern designs
Kevin, This feature is made possible largely as a function of the hull designs of these boats (broad, flat, shallow stern sections), but I would say the purpose is primarily two-fold: weight savings and self-draining. When you think about it, the transom on a more conventional boat is never in the water, so it's not helping to make the boat float.
Baba 40 vs Tayana 42
I specifically included the Tayana 42 in that. He is trying to tell me that it is nothing compared to the Baba 40. He says that the Baba is a much better built and finer and more expensive vessel. I was wondering if anyone here would have any knowledge of the 2 vessels and be able to give me some thoughts on this.
Young Sun 35 Opinions
I've been looking at Westsail 32, Tayana 37, Alberg 30/37, I just recently viewed a Young Sun 35. I can't find much information on the boat. It was pretty clean on the inside. The deck was covered almost entirely with teak. It looked maintained just needed some polish. Mostly cosmetic issues. Any opinions on the quality of this boat and how it ...
