How ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Can Pick Up Some Wind In Its Sails For Season 2

Rachel Leviss Says She's Leaving Hollywood Amid Relationship With Rocket Scientist

Bravo reality series starring kansas city chiefs wives & girlfriends in the works, dr. nicole martin exits 'the real housewives of miami' at bravo due to postpartum anxiety, ariana madix's brother jeremy charged with attempting to smuggle 100 pounds of cannabis.

The first season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht has come to an end, and even though that charter guest didn’t have any drugs on him, maybe this season of the Bravo series could’ve used some. Despite the fact that Sailing Yacht was the latest addition to the proven win that is the boating franchise, including Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean , that didn’t stop this season from needing a bit of wind in its sails.

But let’s focus on the positive first. Sailing Yacht showed viewers a new side to the industry with these sleek sailing boats that move unlike any of the other motor yachts we’ve seen before. The way the wind would catch in those sails and the boat would be thriving, that was truly majestic to watch. There was an element of action and adventure to this series that the others can’t claim.

We also met Captain Glenn who was the perfect captain for this boat. His laid back attitude, willingness to jump up and fix a sail, and adorable admissions during his interviews made him an excellent leader for this show. He’s bringing something different to the table than Captain Lee and Captain Sandy, but he is also capable of showing the same support and sternness when necessary. He was a true delight.

And now, the waters get a little choppy. Viewers were excited to see Chef Adam return for the series after his two-season stint on Below Deck Mediterranean , but this didn’t feel like the Adam we know and love. He’s always been a self-proclaimed grump who just wants to be left alone while he makes his masterpiece meals —and the food did look incredible. But his romance with chief stew Jenna was not nearly the fairytale we hoped for. It was kind of the opposite, even. Their frustrations with each other were our frustrations watching their relationship hit several speed bumps. And the more they seemed to fall for each other, the meaner they became to their coworkers, especially Jenna, in order to have something to laugh about together. Considering how much time they spent together hugging and kissing and flirting in the kitchen, the only thing they were really cooking up was a bad taste in everyone’s mouths.

View this post on Instagram Feeling the Sunday scaries creep in. A post shared by Decider.com (@deciderdotcom) on May 17, 2020 at 3:08pm PDT

The only breakout from the interior was second stew Madison. Sure, she got herself worked up under the pressure of the job at times, but she still seemed to get the work done and had funny things to say in her interviews. She let viewers in on a big part of her life, she forgot to wear a bra to a beach picnic, and had the best facial reactions of anyone. Ultimately, she had the right mix of getting the job done and still being interesting for reality TV, which no one else on the boat really captured. If there’s another season of this show, bring her back as chief stew — it’s likely that would prevent the season from ever getting boring.

Then there’s Georgia. I’d love to know the details of the deal she clearly made with producers. Was it that they promised her 10 seconds of singing time in each episode in exchange for her pushing the forced “feelings for Paget” storyline? That never made any sense for a lot of reasons. If the two were close pals, that’s great. But he was clearly committed to Ciara, and despite their typical couple bickering, the two seem to be a strong match.

Deckhand Chris was nice and the kind of person you need to balance out a group of crazies, but everyone here was unfortunately normal(ish). Oh, but remember Parker? Wow does that feel ages ago. Perhaps it was because his time coincided with Jenna and Adam’s rocky road to love, but he never felt like an overly frustrating character in this mix. His behavior wasn’t that shocking, nor was his departure. Same goes for Byron, the first time an engineer has been a main cast member. We didn’t really learn more about what his job entails, we heard some witty one-liners from him, and he seemed cool enough. But that’s it.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 1 was just fine — even though that’s not a great thing in the world of reality TV. We watched it because the majority of this season aired while we were all stuck inside and it wasn’t as infuriating as the male privilege displayed at the end of the last season of Below Deck . It’s great that this franchise can air all year long, with Below Deck Med picking up in the same timeslot starting next week. But it’s got to find the humor of Below Deck Med or the competence of Below Deck and, ahem, sail with it. Jenna wasn’t a Kate or a Hannah, which would’ve been okay if those weren’t two very beloved skorts to fill. The romance wasn’t charming, the drama wasn’t salacious, the guests all seemed to be fine for the most part. That sounds nice and all, but nobody wants a boring vacation.

Hopefully there is a Season 2 because there’s a lot of potential here. If they can get the boat back up and running, and really, the cameras, it would be wise to lean likable in the casting for this show. We turn to Below Deck for an escape. The high-pressure of fulfilling guest needs while holding on as the boat tips to the side, and in extremely tight quarters, will produce enough drama. When we want fights, we watch Housewives , but Below Deck shouldn’t be frustrating, let alone infuriating. It should be fun. It’s just too bad no one seemed to have any this season.

Why Below Deck: Sailing Yacht is the Best Show You’re Not Watching

By: Author Paul Dailly

  • X (Twitter)

The Below Deck franchise is about to celebrate its 10th birthday on Bravo.

When the series sailed onto our screens in 2013, the idea that I'd still be invested a decade later didn't float.

The year is 2023, and any quasi-successful series has countless spinoffs, but it's rare for a spinoff to outshine the original.

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 4 Cast

Enter Below Deck: Sailing Yacht , the dark horse of the franchise.

When the show kicked off in 2020, it was an utter disaster, with many believing it wouldn't survive into a second season.

Daisy Entertains Her Guests - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

Thanks to more people at home due to COVID-19, the show garnered decent ratings.

Thankfully, Bravo understood that finding the right cast is the key to delivering drama worthy of the high seas.

Producers thought we were interested in watching a cast built around Below Deck: Mediterranean's Adam Glick, and it was hands down one of the worst seasons in franchise history — even worse than Below Deck: Adventure's sole, disastrous season.

Something tells me the latter will NOT see a second season, which is a shame because Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 2 rose like a phoenix from the ashes of its messy freshman season.

Daisy on Season 4 - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht got a second shot at life, albeit with some big changes, and it's blossomed into the best show in the franchise and one of the best shows on TV.

The fun didn't really begin until Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 2, which revealed Glenn Shephard was the lone returning star from the freshman season as the captain of the Parsifal III.

We were introduced to Chief Stewardess Daisy Kelliher, Chief Engineer Colin Macrae, and First Officer Gary King, among others.

The trio remains on the series two seasons later for one reason:

Fans have connected with them.

Gary on Season 4 - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

On the current Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 4 , fans have been given a front-row seat into what can only be described as a love triangle, complete with some twists and turns you'd expect to be reserved for primetime soap operas.

It's hard to take the love triangle seriously, but when you have Gary telling Daisy it's always been her after she moved on with Colin, it makes for great TV.

You do have to suspend your disbelief at some moments, including Daisy wrongly calling Colin Gary and the apparent fact that Colin didn't know about Daisy and Gary's past.

He clearly hasn't been watching Below Deck: Sailing Yacht online!

Memphis Garrett & Christmas Abbott: Big Brother Stars Shock Fans With News They Are Dating

33 Shamefully Addictive Reality Shows We Can’t Stop Watching!

We kid, mostly.

There have been questionable moments throughout this latest plot, but thanks to the nature of the show filming constantly, we're seeing all the nuances of how the trio and their inner circle are reacting.

Had this happened any other season, it would have probably been covered more extensively, but thanks to Scandoval , anything not named Vanderpump Rules is getting little coverage.

It's no secret that Daisy is off her game this season.

She was excellent at her job in her first two seasons, but she's starting to resemble Hannah from Below Deck Mediterranean in her final seasons, albeit far more approachable.

Colin Macrae - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

The final episodes of the season will be critical to the show's future prospects, but it seems like the show is already filming another season of drama in Ibiza.

The question will be whether Daisy, Gary, and Colin will return after all the hoo-ha from on-board drama.

Glenn has been mostly unimpressed with the performance of Daisy and stewardesses Lucy Edmunds and Mads Herrera.

While the shows typically focus on the complicated dynamics between departments, there is quite a bit of unity between them this season.

Yes, there have been some blow-ups, but for the most part, the editing is taking us on a journey to show how far Daisy can push Glen, and I'm here for it.

Glenn Shephard - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

Glenn has a reputation to keep up, and the most recent charter guests on the Bravo hit were less than impressed with the lack of service.

It's doubtful Glen would fire Daisy with the season beginning to wind down, but it's hard not to wonder how Daisy would fare if she was under the purview of Captain Sandy.

Sandy has a much different managing style than Glen, and something tells me she would have plenty to say about the current formation of the Parsifal III.

The beauty of Below Deck: Sailing Yacht has also been the charter guests.

Daisy Kelliher - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

For some reason, the producers find more vocal guests than the other shows in the franchise.

My best guess is that the smaller nature of the Parsifal III in relation to the other shows is that it's a more confined space, leading to — you guessed it — more conflict.

On Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 4 kicked off with the boat being broken for the first charter, meaning the interior staff had to bend over backward to deliver the seven-star service.

In the charters since, we've had near-misses, guests talking to Glenn while he's trying to dock the boat, and a less than stellar service from the interior.

The Best LGBTQ+ Themed Episodes In the Law & Order Universe!

All these ingredients combined have allowed the season to keep Sailing Yacht as the finest show in the franchise.

With a handful of episodes remaining, it's hard to imagine things changing, but we're sure there's plenty of drama set to hit the seas.

What are your thoughts on the series?

Ginges Be Cray

Watching rad tv, below deck sailing yacht s1:e16 dope recap.

I hear things got messy for our chief steward this week on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, ’bout TIME. But let’s see what actually happened, yes? Rolling hot into my recap of BDSY S1:E16 Dope! after the break!

We open where we left, in Captain Glenn Shephard’s office with chief steward Jenna MacGillivray discussing the recent hiccups in service. By that I mean the fact that she left one person on service and went to cuddle during.charter. I mean, if it was just that one time, you’d probably let it slide, right? But all season Jenna’s been at best an absent manager of her interior crew, preferring to hang out in the galley with chef Adam Glick .

You know, they really are well suited in that way.

Captain Glenn doesn’t waste time getting to the day in question, to be confronted with a wall of “That totally didn’t happen” re: only one person being on service.

Since Captain Glenn was clearing glasses and wiping down counters, he’s fully aware of who was down and who was on service and lying to him is a bad choice.

THEN Jenna says she can’t recall and since it’s literally the day before yesterday: the OllieNorthDefense does not apply.

Captain Glenn perseveres; and about lying down with Adam…maybe pump the brakes, sister. Keep it clean and PROFESSIONAL. Both of yous.

Third steward Georgia Grobler is about coming out of her skin trying to find out what’s going on, second steward Madison Stalker doesn’t know either, okay??

A doctor makes his way on board to see newish deckhand  Chris Miller who lifted a seabob and tweaked his back something awful. He still managed to dig rocks, lift heavy things, go up high on the mast and a sexy hot tub striptease, but painfully. Nobody wants a painful hot tub striptease.

The pain and tingles have gone into his foot, he’s lost feeling in spots and the doctor is very concerned. He may have nerve damage, he’ll have to have an MRI before the doctor will clear him to work.

WHY would this have to happen for the last charter? Wait. It always happens for the last charter! They’re always a man down on the last charter on Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean! Is it a case of Push Through Itis??

Jenna complains to Adam in the kitchen, but you really can’t shittalk on a superyacht. The Parsifal III looks roomy, but crew quarters are so tight that the Captain is always about four steps away and he’s going to hear you whining about being taken to task about service.

Now…who was it…that you said was shite on service…but who insisted she was always working…but you said WASN’T but now Captain Glenn has seen exactly that…who…oh right, it was MADISON.

Captain Glenn gets the bad news about Chris, let’s get this MRI going, the charter starts tomorrow!

They tell first mate Paget Berry, who feels sorry only for himself. Sorry the nerves in your back are potentially seriously injured, Paget. Oh wait.

Jenna confronts Madison while they’re cleaning cabins because she’s a shitty manager. She forces Madison to give an opinion about her and Adam carrying on in the crew mess then yells at her for having an opinion.

Jenna storms out, she’s not telling them to do ANYTHING, SO THERE!!

Madison takes Captain Glenn aside, she didn’t say anything bad about Jenna, right? Captain Glenn has had it. He was very careful to tell Jenna that the complaint came from outside her department but Jenna is a bully of the insecure variety. Of course she is then mean to someone she has control over.

Captain Glenn takes off like a shot with Madison trailing in his wake, she doesn’t like drama!

He finds Jenna in the master, do they need to get Georgia? No, okay, time for another chat. It’s much uglier this time, Captain Glenn takes Jenna to task about her actions: “you’re defending them and they’re indefensible.”

We’re clear that Captain Glenn would fire Jenna if there wasn’t only one charter left.

It’s a somber night on the Parsifal, deckhand Ciara Duggan and boyfriend Paget decide not to leave the ship for dinner. They’ve got a charter the next morning and a person down, better to stay on board and wipe stuff with pizza in hand.

Last pre-charter preference sheet meeting of the season wooooo! Who we got, coach?? Nicole Gary will be our last Primary Charter Guest of the first season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, awww! She’s from Manhattan and likes long walks on the beach. Dislikes: people who frown. I’m joshing, she’s in real estate, she likes EQUITY! Friends Noelle Nikpour, Jeanette Spinelli and Nick Buchanan will be joining Nicole, who wants a Pink Party replete with a seven course pink tasting menu.

Pink….tasting menu?

That sounds like a LOT of beet juice being stuffed where it shouldn’t, which is literally everywhere.

The guests give a note about expecting great service, Jenna cracks a joke that they’re going to be disappointed and Adam cracks up. Captain Glenn does not.

Adam reviews the tasting menu with Jenna, then she calls her team together for another meeting! Yay!

She tells Georgia to HTFU and Madison to focus, whatever, Jenna. Maybe admit you’ve been slightly distracted but you’re back on course and ready to knock out this last charter, that would go a lot further.

Everyone works like crazy except poor Ciara, who is coughing and cranky. Is she sick too? Then I might feel bad for Paget, he’d be carrying everything on deck, literally and figuratively.

Guest arrival time!

I like the looks of Primary Nicole! Lookit Mr. BowTieShorts behind her! Why don’t more people make an effort to wear cool stuff?

Boat Tour! We seem to be zooming through really fast, but it’s the last one of the season, guys! We won’t see the Parsifal again until…okay, next week. But after that!

Adam and the crew bring up snacks for the guests in the salon, why does he sit? He’s not confabbing in a workshop with pals, he’s serving them food in a luxury superyacht, stand up and stop the manspread.

Madison and Georgia unpack guest luggage, I think that’s the part of traveling rich I would find the most awesome and terrible. Get out of my stuff! But also press it and hang it up and put it all away again, thanks. Good thing there is exactly zero chance of my traveling rich. Whew!

Paget hurts his knee to go with his pulled hamstring on the other leg while Chris hovers around hopefully. He’s not even allowed to pick up shoes until the doctor clears him.

Captain Glenn is Canadian, he’s not going to mess around with Health and Safety. Canuck represent!

Chris gets a call from the doctor, it’s not good news. He does have a disc prolapse and he’ll need to see a specialist, no lifting anything until then.

It’s Nicholas Buchanan that is the fancy dresser, woooo! Now he’s in reflective shorts and I think I’ve figured out why I may have had issues dating in the past: I really dig dudes who are sometimes only into dudes, apparently.

Other charter guest Billy LastNameCouldn’tSee, maybe Billy Lolli? heads down to his room to sniff something. He pops up on deck to ask to drive the boat as Paget gathers some more chairs for the guests to sit on. Paget’s eating lunch at the time, I guess it would have been too much for Jenna to ask chief engineer Byron Hissel who was right there or something.

The wind picks up, it’s almost time to go sailing!! Look how gorgeous!

below deck sailing yacht season 1 review

And now in motion:

Chris calls Captain Glenn for a chat as Ciara tells Paget she’s sick too. Yep, I finally feel sorry for Paget, his whole department is dropping like flies. He comes into the crew mess, “And then there was one.” LOL

We’re up to 8 degrees heel, charter guest Jeannette is driving with Byron supervising. The wind dies and the sails are stowed. Most of the guests are napping when Captain Glenn drops anchor at Avlaki, Corfu, they’re missing a spectacular sunset.

Paget and Georgia have a nice moment on the bridge, he’s going to miss her! Almost as much as she’ll miss him, that type of crush can be a nice reminder that you’re alive.

The interior team sets the table with a beautiful pink table setting while Adam works on his pink menu, that seemed like not a lot of time to prepare for such specific requests, didn’t it? Billy the Guest just haaaangs around the table.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 review

Primary Nicole fell asleep on deck and doesn’t wake up until 8:30, half an hour after supper is supposed to start.

Why did nobody wake her up??

It’s 10:00 pm and the Primary is just now putting on makeup, her friends are about to faint from starvation and Adam’s losing his mind in the galley.

I’d like to feel bad for everyone but:

  • Nicole Gary is the Primary Charter Guest
  • That means she’s paying
  • If they cared so much about supper, they should have woken her up
  • She’s paying. Shhhh

It’s just that it’s past 10 pm and they’ve requested a seven course tasting menu. 7. That’s going to be a very late night for everyone. Next time someone shake a shoulder!

I’m kind of obsessed with this table!

Primary Nicole looks beautiful but Noelle Nikpour is ready to cut a betch.

First course! Prosciutto and Parmesan with truffle.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 review

There are only five guests, that seems like a tiny group for a yacht this size. Billy can barely keep his eyes open, Jenna wonders aloud if everyone is on drugs.

Second course! Grapefruit salad with grapefruit vinaigrette.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 review

Billy leaves before eating to go to the bathroom. I’m confused because his peeing sounds like sniffing.

Third course is smoked trout with caviar and crostini.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 review

Sorry, I’ve been recapping GBBO a lot lately and it involves a lot of food pictures.

Fourth course! Beet salad with goat’s cheese.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 review

Fifth course: lobster with pink potatoes and Bearnaise. Primary Nicole is very excited about the lobster.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 review

Jenna uses the time in between courses to yell at Madison for not getting the cabins done sooner, Madison is also leaving the cabins to come help serve so we don’t know what the hell Jenna is talking about.

Chris takes Jenna aside, he saw something under Billy’s nose earlier, now she has to say something.

It’s 12:15 am and we’re finally getting our sixth course, watermelon granita.

below deck sailing yacht season 1 review

Last and seventh course is dessert!

below deck sailing yacht season 1 review

Yay! Adam comes out for that one, he did a great job with a weird request. The guests head to bed save Billy and Nicholas, who stay up chitchatting in their room until 3:45 am while Madison and Chris clean the boat.

Oh wow, this is the last day on charter? Already? Huh. I thought for sure they’d be on charter a couple of days, but Byron says this is the last day of the season so it must be.

Jenna tells Captain Glenn about the mysterious powder under Billy’s nose as Adam serves breakfast at 9:45 am. Nick says he and Billy didn’t sleep at all, I wonder if it was just that the Bravo crew fell asleep at 3:45 am.

Captain Glenn is very concerned to hear about this suspicious white powder under Billy’s nose, he would have liked to have been notified in the moment so he could have viewed it himself. He wakes up Chris to confirm and then views the guest himself. Billy is obnoxious, but Captain Glenn brings up a valid point: what if it’s not cocaine but prescribed Adderall? I understand that can be snorted, right?

All I know of Adderall I learned from gossip websites.

Captain Glenn asks to speak to Primary Nicole and we’re out for today! Next week is the season finale, it looks like we get a peek inside Billy’s bag, wooo.

Until then, cheers.
