The legendary Amazone, a storied luxury yacht once owned by Sir Winston Churchill, is poised to undergo a remarkable transformation at the British Pendennis shipyard in Falmouth, Cornwall. With a history steeped in maritime glory and wartime valor, the restoration of Churchill’s cherished vessel represents a poignant endeavor to return it to its former grandeur.

Constructed in 1936 by British shipbuilding firm Thornycroft, the 128-foot (38.9-meter) Amazone was originally delivered to Churchill during his tenure as First Lord of the Admiralty. Beyond serving as his personal retreat, the yacht played a pivotal role during the Second World War, aiding in the repatriation of Allied troops during the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940.

After two decades of dormancy as a houseboat on the Seine in France, the classic vessel embarked on a journey of renewal. Loaded onto the 214M DYT semi-submersible Yacht Servant, it was ferried from Le Havre to Falmouth and then transported to Pendennis, a renowned custom superyacht builder and refit shipyard, where a team of experts awaits to embark on its restoration journey.

The ambitious project is the brainchild of Nicholas Edmiston and William Collier of classic yacht experts G.L. Watson & Co., in collaboration with Sevenstar Yacht Transport. Renowned for their expertise in maritime restoration, the duo has previously undertaken remarkable rebuilds, including Blue Bird, Nahlin, Malahne, and Cacouna.

“This is a complex project that demands strong partnerships and unwavering dedication,” remarked William Collier. “Mike Herrebrugh has been an invaluable partner, and this marks our third successful collaboration with Sevenstar in the last 12 months.”

The tri-deck Amazone, while ordered by Churchill himself, remained the property of the British government throughout its illustrious tenure. With its timeless design and remarkable features, including a spacious living area of 650 square meters and luxurious guest suites, the yacht remains an icon of maritime elegance.

Despite its age, the Amazone boasts impressive amenities, including a large Jacuzzi on the top deck and a sunbathing area. Powered by twin 700hp Cummins diesel engines, it offers a range of 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots, ensuring both performance and comfort on the open seas.

The forthcoming restoration aims to preserve the vessel’s rich heritage while ensuring its seaworthiness for future voyages. As the Amazone undergoes its transformation, it serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Sir Winston Churchill and the timeless allure of British yachting history.

Construction

AMAZON's provenance is highly significant in explaining her survival today as possible the last remaining, ocean-going Victorian wooden screw schooner, particularly as her hull is still largely original. She has not had a 'restoration'.

She was designed by Dixon Kemp as a screw schooner (a propeller-driven power yacht with sails). Although of a size to undertake ocean voyages, she was intended for use only in the English Channel, where there was no shortage of coaling ports and so she did not require extended endurance at sea. Dixon Kemp notes: "As she was not required to carry a large quantity of coal for long passages, advantage of this was taken to keep the displacement as small as possible, and the lines, both fore and aft, as fine as seemed desirable. The machinery was placed amidships, and this admitted of a better run than can often be had: the afterbody, in fact, being almost identical with the forebody." AMAZON was built by Tankerville Chamberlayne, at his own private yacht yard, which had been created in the 1840s by his father (Thomas Chamberlayne, who died in 1876) to maintain the family's racing cutter, the famous ARROW. Tankerville Chamberlayne shared his father's love of yachting and continued to race in ARROW after 1876. He maintained her in racing trim with some success; in 1882, for example, she won 11 prizes from 16 starts, despite being some 61 years old.

AMAZON represents the pinnacle of Tankerville Charmberlayne's private yacht building success; he personally superintended her build, evidently took considerable pride in her and no expense or trouble was spared to make her as good as she could possibly be as his own family's yacht. While AMAZON would be available to accompany ARROW to sailing regattas if required, she would also allow independent family cruising in comfort under power and did so. AMAZON's sea trials were detailed in Dixon Kemp's 'Yacht Architecture', first published in 1885, where he recorded that the speed trials were achieved with a max 125hp. She was fitted with owners accommodation for two gentlemen (in individual staterooms) together with a twin 'ladies' cabin for two. AMAZON remained in Tankerville Chamberlayne's ownership until 1897, having been used in British and French waters. That year she was present at Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee Royal Fleet Review. She was then sold to M. Henri Dubois, Commodore of the Yacht Club Dinard, registered in France and renamed ARMORICAIN.

She returned to the British flag in 1900, where she has remained since. AMAZON was too old-fashioned and would have presented too much of a logistical challenge (with her relatively small coal bunkers) for naval service in the First World War. AMAZON had the very good fortune (and sufficiently wealthy owners) to survive the general cull of steam yachts that accompanied the rise of the motor yacht, the shortage of manpower after the First World War and the effects of the Great Depression. She was certainly remarkable for remaining in steam and active with her original boiler and engine until 1937, when she was some 52 years old. By 1938 she had been refitted with a new oil engine and was moored in Chelsea Reach, London. The Second World War saw AMAZON sacrifice her bronze propeller and 6 inch diameter bronze propeller shaft to the war effort and she became a dumb houseboat at Chiswick. She was very lucky to receive only slight damage from the German V-1 rocket that fell on Cubitt's Yacht Basin and destroyed the motor yacht HALCYON. She remained static at Chiswick until 1968, when she was sold as a houseboat to the actor Arthur Lowe and his wife. Her copper sheathing had preserved the bottom from damage, although the edge of her rudder, where the copper had worn, had been nibbled by gribble.

She was some 83 years old in 1968, but the surveyor's positive report that she was 'in remarkable condition for her age' stimulated Arthur Lowe's heartfelt desire to make her a seagoing yacht again. This was a considerable objective and was achieved in 1971. She was then used as a convenient base and accommodation while Arthur Lowe acted at theatres along the English south coast. AMAZON also undertook some television work and even made an appearance in the Onedin Line in 1979, appropriately playing the part of a steam yacht called AMAZON. Following Arthur Lowe's death in 1982, the yacht was operated for some years by Stephen, his son, as a charter vessel.

By the 1990s however, she was laying in the north of Scotland and had been on sale for several years. It was clear to her new owners that she would need some repair to her counter stern, together with very comprehensive replacement of equipment, systems and tanks. AMAZON was therefore prepared and equipped for sea and made a successful passage in the spring of 1997 from Buckie Shipyard, where she had been inspected, through the Caledonian Canal and from Fort William via Falmouth, and Gibraltar to Malta.

Based at Malta since 1997, AMAZON has undergone necessary repairs, systems overhaul and comprehensive equipment replacement. In 1999 her bottom was stripped and cleaned off, re-caulked and re-coppered. A continuous heavy duty marine diesel engine was fitted. Departing Malta in early 2009, AMAZON undertook a trans-Atlantic passage via Gibralta, the Canary Islands, the Cape Verde Islands and Barbados, continue to St Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Bermuda and the USA; she was 124 years old. In 2011, she made her return trans-Atlantic passage from the USA and via Halifax, Nova Scotia and St John's, Newfoundland, to Ireland.

AMAZON has the distinctly unique privilege of having been present for both the 1897 and the 2012 Diamond Jubilee maritime festivities.

Significance

1.      What is the vessel’s ability to demonstrate history in her physical fabric?

Evidence for designs, functions, techniques, processes, styles, customs and habits or uses and associations in relation to events and people.  How early, intact or rare these features are may impact on significance.

AMAZON's is one of the last remaining, ocean-going Victorian wooden screw schooners. Her hull, of carvel timber construction with wrought iron, bronze bolted strap floors, is still largely original, with only minor reconstruction work carried out. She is built of pine on oak frames, and she has an elm keel and teak planking. She is copper sheathed, with the sheathing having been replaced in 1999. She has two masts and is schooner-rigged with timber spars. Her masts and funnel are lowerable. A number of deckhouses were added and then removed during the twentieth century. AMAZON has not been subject to any major conservation work, although repairs have been made to the counter stern.   Her original boiler and steam engine were removed in 1937, when a diesel engine was installed; this engine had been removed by 1960. In 1970 a Perkins S6 100 bhp diesel engine was installed, which was replaced in 1977 with a Ford 6 cylinder 120 bhp unit.  In 1999 the current Kelvin R6 120 bhp continuous heavy duty marine diesel engine was fitted.

2.      What are the vessel’s associational links for which there is no physical evidence?

Associations with people or places.  Off-ship research.

AMAZON was designed by renowned designer Dixon Kemp who makes reference to her in his published works 'Yacht Architecture' which includes details of her sea trials and also in 'Manual of Yacht and Boat Sailing'. She is believed to be one of only two of Dixon Kemp’s seagoing designs remaining and the sole surviving power vessel of his design. She was built by Tankerville Chamberlayne Esq, a member of a major local land-owning family and MP for Southampton, in his private yard in Southampton. She reflects the Victorian class system, with many of the men who built her being tenants on Chamberlayne land. AMAZON was a regular attendee at South Coast regattas and was used as Committee boat by the Royal Southampton Yacht Club. She is believed to have attended the Royal Fleet Review in 1897 held to mark Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. AMAZON may have been one of many thousands of yachts requisitioned for war service by the Admiralty at the start of the First World War. She became known in the French yachting press when owned by M. Henri Dubois, Commodore of the Dinard Yacht Club. She was later owned by Dad’s Army actor Arthur Lowe, from 1968 until his death in 1982. AMAZON has the unique privilege of having been present not only at the 1897 Fleet Review but also the 2012 Jubilee maritime festivities marking the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.  In recent years, she has cruised extensively, spending time in US waters where she became an exhibit at Mystic Seaport Museum.

3.      How does the vessel’s shape or form combine and contribute to her function?

Overall aesthetic impact of the vessel, her lines, material she was built from and her setting.  Does she remain in her working environment?

AMAZON is an elegant and aesthetically pleasing vessel, with a clipper bow and a counter stern. She is a distinctive vessel with her slanting funnel and gentle sheer, and her white painted hull. Her accommodation is representative of the class system in late Victorian Britain, with two comfortable single staterooms for the gentlemen and a separate ‘ladies cabin’. The eight crew members lived in tiny quarters at the stern of the vessel. AMAZON is now in private hands and is used operationally for long-term cruising. She is based in the Channel Islands.

Luxury yacht linked to Churchill and WWII battle on sale for €2m

  • Jamey Bergman

The 127ft yacht featured in the WWII rescue mission known as the Miracle of Dunkirk.

Sir Winston Churchill

A yacht used by Sir Winston Churchill that brought scores of Allied soldiers to safety during World War II is up for sale in France for €2 million.

The yacht, called Amazone, took part in ‘Operation Dynamo,’ according to Coldwell Banker, who are managing the sale of the vessel.

Operation Dynamo, the code name for the evacuation of Allied soldiers from France in 1940 known popularly as the ‘Miracle of Dunkirk,’ saw nearly 340,000 soldiers rescued over the course of eight days. In the face of an advancing German army, a fleet of over 800 boats including Amazone ferried soldiers from France’s Norman beaches to England’s southern coast.

A yacht used by Winston Churchill during World War II has gone up for sale for €2m.

According to Coldwell Banker, Amazone made at least three trips across the English Channel and brought a total of nearly 550 troops back to the UK. The yacht is thought to be one of just two surviving small barges to have been part of the effort.

The yacht’s current owner, architect Mireille Huet, hopes to sell it to someone who will “honour its dignity.”

Reportedly, Huet has already turned down at least one buyer, an Arab prince with whose plans for the yacht she disagreed.

The yacht participated in the ‘Miracle of Dunkirk ‘ evacuation.

Although the yacht has been reported as having been the property of Sir Winston Churchill, a Coldwell Banker representative clarified that Amazone was the property of the British government and merely at Churchill’s disposal while he was the First Lord of the Admiralty at the onset of World War II in 1939-1940.

The yacht is fitted with luxurious touches like a top-deck Jacuzzi and retains the well-stocked bar that Churchill, a notorious lover of drink and cigars, had installed onboard.

The 127ft Amazone has two 700-horse power engines and a top speed of 11 knots. It has been called Welsh Liberty and My Evangeline during its 90 years on the water, but has been given back its original name.

Churchill's yacht up for sale in France for €2 million

amazon yacht churchill

A luxury yacht that was tailor-made for Sir Winston Churchill, including a well-stocked bar, is up for sale in France for a cool €2million (£1.5 million).

The 127-foot boat includes three decks that can sleep up to 12 people and was built by Thornycroft Shipyard in 1936, before Churchill became prime minister. It is currently moored in the town of Limay to the west of Paris.

Initially called Amazon when it was owned by Sir Winston, the vessel was later renamed Welsh Liberty, then My Evangeline, before being given back its original name once again.

Amazon features an on-board bar ordered by Churchill, a famous lover of drink and cigars, and can transport up to 60 people.

The boat, which boasts a top speed of 11 knots thanks to two 700-horse power engines, has a captain's room, a 40-square metre lounge, a meeting room, and a sun lounger on the vast top deck with a Jacuzzi.

Coldwell Banker France, a company that specialises in the sale of luxury castles and villas, has put it up for sale for 2 million euros (£1.5million).

“We’re talking about a unique piece that will be of interest to a collector for its historic character or a sailing fan for its vintage side,” said Laurent Demeure of Coldwell Banker France and Monaco.

The yacht has notched up 4,000 nautical miles since it was built 80 years ago, but has been returned to its pristine former glory, plus mod cons, after two refits between 1990 and 2005.

Amazon was not the only boat for the wartime leader known for his extravagant lifestyle. He also took to the seas in his later model, called Christina.

Churchill loved spending time on the water, and was notably a regular guest on shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis’s floating palace, Christina O, where he famously first introduced the Greek magnate to President Kennedy and his then wife Jackie – who Onassis would later marry.

Winston Churchill yacht for sale

The legendary "Amazon" - yacht that belonged to Winston Churchill even before he became prime minister-, has belonged since 2005 to a French architect called Mireille Huet, who has refused to sell it to an Arab prince; this because she is interested in finding a more suitable profile to be the owner, like a collector or a historian, or someone who primarily ensures the historical transcendence of the emblematic ship.

Valued at more than two million dollars, and built on request of the same Churchill in 1936 by the shipyard Thornycroft , "Amazon" did an important work during the Second World War, when it was used for the repatriation of the allied troops from Britain.

Today, a new owner could enjoy the deck of this emblematic luxurious boat in perfect condition and with that the classic tone that characterizes the authentic vintage boats. Undoubtedly, the new owner will have new stories to tell aboard this great witness of the world.

Did Winston Churchill wear a Rolex?

Few individuals can be said to have had as much impact upon world history as Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister who oversaw the eventual victory of the allies in the Second World War. It was for this reason that Hans Wilsdorf, in 1947, selected Churchill as the man who should own the 100,000th certified chronometer produced by Rolex.

The watch that Wilsdorf gifted to Churchill was an 18ct gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust, with a fluted bezel, a white dial, and a Jubilee bracelet.

Churchill warmly accepted the gift from Wilsdorf, stating in his letter of acceptance, ‘I look forward very much to receiving this Wristwatch, and I trust you will realize how much I appreciate this very kind gesture of goodwill.’

Steve McQueen was known for wearing a few different watches, and the Rolex Explorer II reference 1655 has been referred to as the Steve McQueen Explorer. But the King of Cool actually has a stronger connection with the Rolex Submariner.

How was Churchill so rich?

How was Churchill so rich?

Perhaps the most important lesson Lough offers here is that mismanaging your personal finances can lead to moral and professional compromises. Repeatedly, Churchill relied on rich admirers to rescue him from debt and even bankruptcy. He depended on various newspaper publishers for the high writing fees he lived on for much of his adult life. And he engaged in contortions to avoid taxes that other Britons had to pay. As chancellor of the exchequer, he demanded rulings on his own taxes from Inland Revenue officials when that agency was under his purview.

“Clearly some of his actions or omissions would not survive scrutiny by the standards of transparency expected of today’s politicians,” Lough writes. To wit: “While responsible for South Africa’s government as colonial secretary after the First World War, he held on to his South African mining shareholdings; and within a year of losing office in 1922 he earned a substantial fee from two oil companies in return for lobbying his former ministerial colleagues. After the Second World War, while leader of the Opposition and then prime minister, he accepted interest-free loans from a national newspaper, The Daily Telegraph.”

Churchill used his social and political position, moreover, to get cheap credit and cow those he owed, including his bank. In 1914, his debt to his wine provider reached $50,000 in today’s money, and at one point he hadn’t paid his cigar provider in five years. Despite all this earning and spending, the Churchills evidently gave little thought (or money) to charity.

Did Churchill wear a ring?

Did Churchill wear a ring?

Winston Churchill, typically, defied convention by wearing his signet ring, sporting his family’s crest, on his ring finger. His Labour opponent in 1945, Clement Attlee, wore a pinkie ring, as the Americans call them.

But the convention for men wearing wedding rings on the fourth finger of their left hand did not really take off until World War Two, when serviceman fighting overseas wanted to wear a reminder of their wives and families back home.

As a relative latecomer to wedded bliss, we can perhaps forgive Labour leader Ed Miliband for wanting to tell the world about it. But if he is serious about joining the world leaders’ club, maybe he should take a leaf out of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s book and sling the ring.

Did Winston Churchill make the Churchill tank?

Did Winston Churchill make the Churchill tank?

• As you will read in these articles, there was considerable doubt about the practicality of Churchill’s idea for what were then called “land caterpillars.” These machines did, however, prove effective when used late in the war. Although Churchill did not “invent” the tank, he was by far the most significant supporter of its development during World War I.

4. Was there any prohibition to Churchill’s expenditures on the Landship Committee? Did he have to go to any extremes to provide funding for the organization or the industry of the tanks?

• I am not an expert but I think Mr. Frost will be able to comment on this. There is always bureaucratic resistance to new ideas. Remember that Churchill was out of office after 1915, having been forced to resign from the Admiralty by the disasters at the Dardanelles and Gallipoli—and not back until appointed to the Munitions Ministry in 1917. His main effort before then was to set up the Committee and appoint the right people, such as Albert Stern, to keep pushing the idea (see in particular Finest Hour 135, page 43).

Who paid off Churchill's debts?

Who paid off Churchill’s debts?

Files declassified in the 2000s showed that Strakosch provided large financial gifts to Churchill in 1938 and 1940, which enabled Churchill to pay off his vast debts and to withdraw his Kent home Chartwell from sale at a time of severe financial pressures. Nazi propaganda exploits this to claim that Churchill was under the control of Zionist bankers, an anti-Semitic trope also repeated by Holocaust denialists such as David Irving.Strakosch was unmarried until 1941 when he married Mabel Elizabeth Vincent, widow of Joseph Temperley, a shipowner.

He died at his home at Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, in 1943 aged 72.

Did Stalin have a yacht?

Did Stalin have a yacht?

Maxim Gorki, the yacht of Joseph Stalin.

Launched in 1934 in Nizhny-Novgorod, by the most important Soviet shipyard of the time, the Krasny Bogatyr (the Red Knight), which later became the “Maxim Gorki”, Stalin’s and the Soviet nomenklatura’s ceremonial ship, was a great success for fifteen years for the big shots of the Soviet regime…

The 1930s in Soviet Russia were a time of major infrastructure works. The USSR, backward under centuries of tsarist rule, then ruined by civil war, the failure of the New Economic Policy and the ensuing famines, engages, under the yoke of Joseph Stalin, the not very benevolent “Father of Nations”, in fantastic and gigantic infrastructure works. This was the time of the forced industrialisation of the USSR, during which the dictator wanted to make up, at all costs, for the economic backwardness between the old Tsarist agricultural Russia and the Western economies. In order to make up for this backwardness and develop the country, the Father of Nations, who was very busy liquidating all the social classes that represented, or had represented, or even could represent a political risk for him in the future, had a brilliant idea:Forced labour, to carry out the infrastructure work sorely lacking in the young USSR, and then exterminate, through deprivation that can go as far as famine, the troublesome populations. This is how the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union decided to build large canals.

The Krasny Bogatyr, 68 m long and 13 m wide, was an exceptional yacht in its time, 1934. The ship was renamed “Maxim Gorky”, Lenin’s famous companion and a prominent member of the nomenklatura, after the writer’s death in 1936.Powered by two 1,100 HP diesel generators, the same as those installed on the “Decembrist” class submarines, the flagship of the Soviet fleet at the time, it reached a record speed of 20 knots. At this speed, the dictator could soon criss-cross the USSR via its nascent network of canals, to spur the revolutionary ardour of his comrades.

The carriage was then shipped to America in 1968, where it went on tour with Flying Scotsman. Lydia would remain at the US National Railroad Museum until it was returned to Britain in 2002.

Did Churchill own a yacht?

Did Churchill own a yacht?

The story broke in mid-January that a luxury yacht offered for sale in France at the asking price of €2 million was originally commissioned by Winston Churchill in 1936. News organizations around the world picked up and carried the claim without providing any proof that the boat was once owned by Churchill. The Churchill Centre quickly moved to investigate the story knowing that Churchill never owned a yacht in his life.

All versions of the story report that the 127-foot boat was built by Thornycroft Shipyard in 1936 to Churchill’s own specifications and features and on-board bar that he personally ordered. Reportedly the vessel was initiallycalled Amazonewhen it was supposedly owned by Churchill but was renamed by subsequent owners first asWelsh Libertyand then My Evangelinebefore being given back its original name. The current owner states that she purchased the yacht from a “luxury gangster.”

Allen Packwood, the Director of the Churchill Archives Centre stated, “I immediately checked our catalogue for references to ‘Amazon'(or variants thereof) and to ‘yacht’ between 1934 and 1938 and found nothing. The only references to yachts were to the Rosaura (Lord Moyne’s yacht on which Churchill and his wife did travel as guests) and the Admiralty-owned yacht Enchantress, which Churchill used in his official capacity as First Lord of the Admiralty from 1911–15.”

David Lough, author of No More Champagne: Churchill and His Money, has studied the Churchill family’s financial records in exhaustive detail and stated, “I am confident that the thousands of pages ofChurchill’s bank accounts which I scrutinisedheld no evidence of anypurchaseof a yacht. Given thedate of the alleged purchase is 1936, I can be be even more confident: Churchill’s general financial condition at the timewould simplyhave ruled it out.”

What boat carried Winston Churchill?

What boat carried Winston Churchill?

Chosen well in advance during “Operation Hope Not”, partly because her ample decks would allow access for the Grenadier Guards bearer party, HAVENGORE became assured a place in history as the vessel that carried Sir Winston Churchill up the Thames towards his final resting place on 20th January 1965 as part of the then largest state funeral in history. John Tough, son of her designer Robert ‘Bob’ Tough recalls:

“When HAVENGORE returned to the yard in the early 1960’s for a refit, the works list included having the stanchions and rails on the aft deck made portable and having a metal frame built over the aft skylight. There was no explanation for what these modifications were for, but it all became clear when HAVENGORE was seen carrying Churchill’s coffin on the frame on the aft deck, and with the stanchions and rails removed to allow the bearer party to get on board.”

HAVENGORE was seen by an estimated, and unprecedented, live TV audience of 350 million. It was this fame thirty years later that prevented her from almost wasting away at her Gravesend, Kent mooring after decommissioning in 1995 as the Port of London Authority’s principal survey vessel and flagship.

Jeff Bezos , Amazon founder and the world’s richest man, will reportedly soon be the owner of a mega-yacht he bought for $500 million, almost double the price he paid to buy the Washington Post newspaper in 2013.

While the details of the vessel have largely been kept under wrap, the 417-foot superyacht is so massive that it has a yacht of its own, along with a helipad, reported Bloomberg.

Developed by Dutch yachtmaker, Oceano, it is named project Y721 and has several decks along with three huge masts, reported the outlet. Said to be the largest sailing yacht built in the Netherlands, it is due to be finished next month, almost two years after it was ordered.

While the cost of the yacht is inconceivable for many, the amount is only a fraction of Mr Bezos’s total worth which currently stands at $191 billion. In fact, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index , Mr Bezos gained about $75 billion in 2020, as the world was fighting the pandemic.

Amazon’s stocks gained 75 per cent last year as consumers turned towards its services for shopping during the pandemic, reported CNN. Bezos isn’t the only billionaire to have gained fortune during the pandemic.

According to a report published by Institute for Policy Studies and Americans for Tax fairness, US billionaires have collectively increased their wealth by $1.1 trillion during the pandemic, making them 40 per cent richer than they were before the pandemic began.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s ‘intense reunion’ sends ‘Bennifer’ fans into meltdown

While Covid-19 was not a factor when Mr Bezos invested his fortune in the superyacht, a Bloomberg analysis showed that its market has grown especially during the pandemic. “The market’s been roaring,” Sam Tucker, head of superyacht research at London-based VesselsValue, was quoted as saying by the outlet.

He further said that the demand for extravagantly high-end yachts has outstripped supply. “It’s impossible to get a slot in a new-build yard,” Mr Tucker said. “They’re totally booked.”

Aino Grapin, chief executive officer of superyacht interiors studio Winch Design, told the outlet that the yacht allows the explorer to cruise for 9,000 nautical miles without the need to refuel it. “Clients can enjoy life at sea for long periods of time without having to go mix with others,” she said.
