New owner for Nobiskrug’s 77m Black Shark

  • March 5, 2022

The German superyacht builder has announced a new owner for the 77m Black Shark, marking the third order since the shipyard’s acquisition last summer.

Nobiskrug has announced that a new owner has signed for the 77m Black Shark , so construction will continue ahead of a scheduled delivery in summer 2023. Imperial is acting as the broker and owner’s representative of the five-deck superyacht, which will be completed in Nobiskrug’s 160m air-conditioned dry dock.

Philipp Maracke, Managing Director of Nobiskrug, said: “In intensive negotiations we prevailed against strong competitors and proved that we are the best partner for our customer. The fact that we were able to renew the contract for the construction of this outstanding ship makes me very proud on behalf of the employees of the shipyard.”

The contract marks the third order since the Rendsburg shipyard’s acquisition last year by the Tennor Group, with investor Lars Windhorst significantly involved in the negotiations for Black Shark .

The yacht’s dynamic, imposing exterior is by UK-based Winch Design, while Dutch studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design created the interior. Features include a matt-black hull, silver metallic superstructure, a distinctive reverse bow and a mast reminiscent of a shark’s fin.

Black Shark is being built in compliance with Red Ensign Group Yacht Code Part A and IMO Tier 3 regulations, which set strict emission limits.

77m Project Black Shark to be completed at Nobiskrug

Nobiskrug has confirmed that the 77 metre superyacht Project Black Shark will be completed at the builder's Rendsburg facility. The owner has now signed the contract for the construction of the project to continue after plans were scuppered when the German shipyard filed for insolvency in 2021.

The project, named for its shark-inspired superstructure, was sold by  Imperial  in April 2018 and is expected to be handed over to its owner in summer 2023.

“In intensive negotiations we prevailed against strong competitors and proved that we are the best partner for our customer," said Nobiskrug managing director Philipp Maracke. "The fact that we were able to renew the contract for the construction of this outstanding ship makes me very proud on behalf of the employees of the shipyard."

Designed by British studio Winch Design , the five-deck yacht is built in steel and aluminium with a dorsal fin-like mast structure and a distinctive reverse bow. Once finished, the hull will be painted in matte black to mimic the skin of the black shark. The dark colour will wrap around three decks while the superstucture will be painted in a "sporty" metallic silver to complement the mast.

Project Black Shark is set to feature interior styling by  Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design  with two luxury tenders, an on-deck whirlpool and a grand beach club with a spa area.

The accommodation layout has not been revealed but it is known that Project Black Shark will be built under Tier 3 regulations and the Red Ensign Yacht Code Part A. Key figures include a 12.75 metre beam and 2,080 GT.

Project Black Shark will be finished in Nobiskrug's dry dock with tasks including the installation of pipework, cabling, insulation and electrical systems such as lighting, entertainment facilities and air-conditioning set to take place over the coming months. Filing and fairing work will be finished shortly before a layer of distinctive matte black paint is applied to the hull to complete the build.

It took the power of two tugs to haul the hull from the Kiel facility on the shores of the Baltic Sea, setting off at 10am in the direction of Rendsburg. Black Shark’s hull passed through locks before entering the Kiel Canal where it spent three hours travelling at the maximum speed of 8 knots. It completed the landmark journey on the River Eider, arriving at the state-of-the-art facility in Rendsburg at 1:30pm. We are excited to see Black Shark entering the next phase of the build process, interior and exterior outfitting, which will commence at our facility in Rendsburg.

“We are pleased to team up again with our esteemed partners at NOBISKRUG. Project BLACK SHARK is a major milestone for Imperial on several aspects: the very first Imperial vessel designed in close collaboration with Winch Design and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, and the very first publicized superyacht project from keel laying to delivery. With Project BLACK SHARK, together with NOBISKRUG we want to give a clearer understanding of our industry and how exclusive creations are coming to life, who are the people behind. Keel Laying & Coin Ceremony at NOBISKRUG

During the early stages of a yachts build, the keel laying and coin ceremony are an important milestone. Besides the placing of the keel section, the ceremony also sees the yacht owner place a special coin under the keel. Not only is this a symbolic start for the assembly of the rest of the vessel, but it is also a token of good luck for sailing the high seas. The coin is retrieved and returned to the owner upon nearing completion and also marks the accomplishment of the vessel meeting applicable regulations.

Work progresses on M/Y 'Black Shark'

The superstructure of the 77m project has been mounted at nobiskrug's facilities….

Image for article Work progresses on M/Y 'Black Shark'

Currently in build at Nobiskrug, the superstructure of M/Y Black Shark was mounted last week in anticipation of the towing of the hull to Rendsburg for outfitting works in December. Nobiskrug reports satisfactory progress on the project, enabled by a fruitful collaboration with owner's representative and construction supervisor Imperial Yachts. The project is on track to meet its scheduled delivery.

“The build team, led by construction manager Boris Deutschmann, has been extremely flexible and highly productive,” comments Rainer Stobrawa, Black Shark ’s project manager. “The enthusiastic engagement in relation to any difficult temporary challenges which have arisen due to capacity issues in the supplier market have been dealt with swiftly and without real concern.”

Earlier this year, Nobiskrug announced its intention to give the industry exclusive behind-the-scenes access throughout the build process, something that would usually be cloaked in secrecy. As such, much interest has been paid to the progress of the project so far.

“Nobiskrug projects always receive high levels of interest due to the nature of the builds that we take on – we are renowned for tackling technically challenging construction projects,” adds Stobrawa. “ Black Shark is both technically advanced and also boasts spectacular design inside and out, so the level of interest for this project has been notably high.”

Black Shark  has a striking exterior penned by Winch Design; painted black, with an imposing reverse bow and lines emulating a shark. The shark theme will continue on the interiors, which have been created by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design. More details of the project can be found here .

Stylish superyacht ‘Black Shark’ to be built at Nobiskrug shipyard

black shark yacht owner

In summer 2023, M/Y Black Shark will be handed over to her Owner, who wishes to remain unnamed. Imperial Yachts acts as broker and Owner’s representative. Black Shark is already awaiting its completion in the superyacht building shed, Nobiskrug’s 160m long covered and air-conditioned dry dock. Under controlled conditions the interior and exterior outfitting will be finalised. This includes, among other tasks, the pulling of cables, pipe works, as well as the installation of insulation and the air conditioning and ventilation systems. Subsequently, the luxury interior and the installation of electrical components, such as lighting and entertainment systems, will be completed. At the same time, the filling and fairing work on the hull will be completed, before the innovative matte black paint is applied in several layers, and windows and doors are installed.

The 77m yacht has a distinctive reverse bow (also known as a negative stern). With a mast reminiscent of a shark’s fin fitted on a silver metallic superstructure, it has a uniquely characteristic silhouette. At the same time, the matte paintwork of the hull mimics the skin texture of a black shark. The yacht has five decks, a large spa area and whirlpool as well as two tender boats. The dynamic, imposing exterior of the ship was designed by the renowned studio Winch Design in London.

The interior design has been created by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design from the Netherlands. Black Shark is being built in compliance with IMO Tier 3 regulations, which set strict emission limits, as well as the Red Ensign Group Yacht Code Part A.

The landmark journey of Nobiskrug 77m Black Shark arriving in Rendsburg

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he towing of a hull always marks a significant milestone in a new build project, especially when it comes to a 77m construction crusing from Kiel to Rendsburg. The highly anticipated Nobiskrug’s custom new build, Project Black Shark, has arrived at the shipyard’s facility and it took the power of two tugs to haul the hull from the Kiel facility on the shores of the Baltic Sea.

Black Shark’s hull passed through locks before entering the Kiel Canal where it spent three hours travelling at the maximum speed of 8 knots. It completed the landmark journey on the River Eider, arriving at the state-of-the-art facility in Rendsburg at 1:30pm.

It is here where the highly-anticipated hull will be painted matte black to mimic the texture of the skin of a black shark (Carcharhinus obscurus). In contrast, the superstructure will wear a sporty, metallic silver colour to complement the mast, which is cleverly designed to resemble a shark fin.

The dark exterior colour will wrap three decks which have been specifically designed by British studio Winch Design to emphasise the yacht’s voluminous 2,080GT.

“Following the keel laying in February this year, we are excited to see Black Shark entering the next phase of the build process, interior and exterior outfitting, which will commence at our facility in Rendsburg”, says Fadi Pataq , Nobiskrug.

On her side, Imperial Director Julia Stewart added: “It’s a new milestone achieved for this exciting project, a step closer to the final delivery. Imperial and its team are proudly building, with the help of our esteemed partner Nobiskrug, the future of superyacht in all its qualities and superb. From now, every day is coming close to the delivery, and it looks very exciting to see the next achievements.” Imperial acted as Broker for the sale and continue as Owner’s Representative and Construction Supervisor throughout the entire build.

“To have to create a theme brings a connection to the interior, as if it were a book,” remarks Sander Sinot about his latest gripping story: the 77-metre  Black Shark . As the yacht fast approaches her completion date, we are all itching to skip to the ending of this tale.

77m Black Shark yacht exterior render

For the story to be completed, an untold number of man-hours have been invested into making an adventurous owner’s dream come true. Having summoned the industry’s top-tier team of  Imperial ,  Winch Design ,  Sinot  and  Nobiskrug , the owner challenged the designers with adopting the hard-hitting shark theme and translating it into the body and soul of a next-generation superyacht. “It’s a matter of how you are able to interpret things, no matter how literally. I think that’s the trick,” says Sinot.

Despite the project being something of an unusual beast, Sinot ensured that the translation of the theme did not go against the grain of his design principles. “A design should not exist just ‘because’ it has been designed. It should be a manifestation of something for purpose, aesthetics and function.”

Black Shark yacht rendering

“A yacht is not just an object of wealth: it is something you can use to move across the globe and see things that other people can’t. Superyacht’s make you feel good, and the interiors are what makes owners want to welcome people on board and enjoy the surroundings together. It should feel like a safe place to be.” That said, what will manifest itself inside the deep black metallic exterior of the Shark isn’t yet crystal clear. But what we do know is that all those who step on board dive straight into an underwater world awash with examples of the perpetual predator theme. To help us delve deeper into the concept, Senior Designer and Project Manager at  Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design , Zlatko Imamovic, answers our questions.

The client is energetic, very interesting and involved. He liked the fact we could use a lot of new technologies in our design such as 3D printing and scanning. It was very clear from the beginning that he wanted to create something unique to correspond to the theme, but still ensure that the spaces are warm, comfortable and inviting. Because of this clear direction, we were able to start creating the interiors in 3D from day one.

Black Shark yacht rendering

In some of the spaces we have black ceilings, which are quite a bold statement. If you zoom in to the details, it all relates to the theme of ‘black’ or ‘shark’, either together or separately in a subliminal way.

Despite the clear theme, we didn’t want to end up building a theme park inside. You will not see shark fins as door handles, or any other literal translations of the theme. Instead we have added hidden teeth inside the interior, which are not directly noticeable but this is the way we decided to build up the tension inside.

We didn’t know what shark skin looked like until we used a microscope and were able to study its pattern. Their skin is made to reduce the drag on the water with a texture similar to the outside of a golf ball – we translated this into a 3D print and have covered entire walls with this pattern. The outcome is a very interesting tactile texture on the wall.

Black Shark yacht rendering

We have told a story throughout the interior with a clear distinction between each deck. This has been divided up to create the perception that, as you move up through the yacht, you are either below the water, on the surface of the water or above the water.

We offered the owner a 360-degree view of the yacht sent to his iPad and a virtual reality (VR) tour. This way, he could click anywhere and walk through  Black Shark  virtually. Thanks to these new technologies, it only took a few months to complete the interior design. Because of this project, VR mock-ups are now an integral part of our design process.

By the time the keel was laid, we had long finished all the visuals and had made a start on the full-size mockups. We were building four of them in order to see our selection of materials together, which is an important part of our design process. To have a controlled, clean procedure, you need a seal of approval for each step so, in the end, you can ensure the owner will be very satisfied.

Black Shark exterior rendering

We endeavoured to create a comfortable and liveable environment, so needed to be really careful how we translated the idea of the shark. Yes, we have sofas, armchairs and furniture made of nice soft fabrics, but these items are still connected to the overall theme in a way that ties the entire design together in a sophisticated style. This interior is not ‘just an interior,’ there’s a story behind it and relates well to the exterior details, such as  Winch Design ’s interpretation of the shark gills and fin along the matte black hull.

Monaco Yacht Show 2024: The Biggest, Boldest and Most Expensive Superyachts To See

Even in its 33rd year, Monaco Yacht Show continues to break its own milestones.

By Ellys Woodhouse and Toby Louch

black shark yacht owner

The principality of Monaco has a calendar that’s filled with major events. While the financial benefits of this little tax haven ensure its population remains fairly well stocked with super-rich and socialites year-round, it’s these events that truly bring the masses. April calls for the tennis at The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters; in May it’s time for the Formula One Grand Prix ; June brings the world-famous car show Top Marques ; and summer draws to a close with perhaps the most glam of the bunch, the Monaco Yacht Show, which this year falls on September 25 – 28.

For those interested in gazing upon some of the finest yachts that can be found anywhere in the world, Monaco ’s Port Hercules is a pretty good spot year-round, but for the weekend of the Monaco Yacht Show, things enter a different league.

The Monaco Yacht Show is essentially a gathering of the global superyacht community. From owners to innovators, manufacturers and brokers, all head to the principality. Each year, builders and brokers present around 120 superyachts and 60 luxury tenders , with many of these reflecting current industry trends and revealing the potential future direction of the industry. These vessels boast an average length of around 160 ft, with a sprinkling of superyachts that top the 320 ft mark – with this year’s headliner clocking in at 400 ft.

Aside from the yachts themselves, visitors can expect countless designers improving yacht interiors and engineers working to ensure the industry becomes more sustainable. There’s sure to be a lot going on.

So ahead of this year’s event, Elite Traveler has looked into which yachts will be on display at Port Hercules and curated a list of some of the show’s unmissable vessels. So blow the dust off your Panama hat and add a few zeros to your credit card limit, because these are some of the biggest, boldest and most expensive boats attending the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show.

The undisputed biggest headline of this year’s show – in every sense of the word – Lürssen’s Kismet will be the largest yacht to go on display in Port Hercules. While the previous title holder was another from Lürssen, the 377.6-ft Ahpo, the Kismet takes its victory by a considerable mile, clocking in at 400 ft. Previously known as Project Jag, the Kisamet was handed over to owner Shahid Khan in May 2024, making it one of the show’s newest deliveries, too.

With exterior design by Nuvolari Lenard and naval architecture by Lürssen Yachts along with Reymond Langton Design working on the yacht’s interiors , Kismet is decked out with a helipad, beauty salon, indoor and outdoor cinema, dance floor and gym. Perhaps unsurprising, but all this makes Kisamet one of the most expensive yachts to charter , too, asking for €3m (approx. $3.4m) per week with Cecil Wright & Partners.

Delivered in 2019 by SilverYachts and refitted in 2024, the almost 280-ft, self-described ‘sports activity vessel’ Bold takes center stage at Monaco Yacht Show 2024. Designers Espen Øino created the superyacht’s striking, military-inspired exterior, creating a unique glass-enclosed loft on the upper deck that covers over 3,200 sq-ft of interior space. Meanwhile, Vain Interiors has created an opulent, New York-style loft, which is built to accommodate up to 12 overnight guests in eight luxurious staterooms and can carry up to 96 passengers while cruising.

With a a huge selection of water toys, a vast outdoor entertaining area with a bar and Teppanyaki grill, a cinema, an eight-person hot tub and a lounge surrounding a firepit, it’s no surprise that the Bold is a popular charter yacht, with Holl Robinson asking €875,000 ($972, 800) per week.

Following an extensive, three-year rebuild, the most expensive superyacht on the market has returned to Port Hercules for 2024, complete with a new look – and price tag, too, asking for €295m ($328m). The 344.5-ft Oceanco H3 superyacht has already picked up a handful of international awards for the new look and is expected to impress many fans at Monaco Yacht Show 2024.

In addition to the extra 10 meters that were added to the H3 ’s hull, the rebuild – from the likes of Reymond Langton Design, which worked on both the exterior and interior redesign, and the collaboration between Lateral Naval Architects and Oceanco on its naval architecture – also saw a pool deck, huge spa and wellness area and climate-controlled winter garden added to H3 ’s numerous amenities.

With its distinctive, shark-like exterior design, the 295-ft superyacht DAR will be hard not to miss at Monaco Yacht Show 2024. Built by Oceanco with exteriors designed by Luiz de Basto Design, the glossy black silhouette was inspired by the look of the hammerhead shark, with sinuous lines, wide set wing stations and a mast modeled after a dorsal fin.

Meanwhile, renowned Italy-based studio Nuvolari & Lenard has crafted swooping, contemporary interiors. DAR’s impressive features include a complete owner’s deck, complete with a private salon and jacuzzi, a wellness area, an impressive beach club, and two helipads for private use. Offering grandeur and complete privacy in equal doses, DAR can accommodate up to 14 guests in overnight accommodation, with separate living quarters to host as many as 31 crew members.

Despite only hitting the waters in June this year, the first wallywind110, Galma , is set to make its global debut at Monaco Yacht Show 2024. Measuring almost 110 ft, Galma ’s naval architecture comes from German studio judel/vrolijk & co while interior and exterior lines are designed by Wally in collaboration with Santa Maria Magnolfi. With a design that offers the comfort of a cruising yacht while maintaining the performance of a racing boat, Galma is characterized by the 22.6-ft telescopic keel and an all-carbon hull that has been painted in light metallic blue.

Other highlights of Galma include an 860-sq-ft full-beam cockpit with seating and dining for up to 15 people, as well as an open-plan raised saloon. Galma can accommodate up to eight guests overnight, with five crew members.
