  1. Mirage 33 good and bad

Have just taken the plunge on a 1982 Mirage 33. I'm looking for advice on the boat in terms of the good and not so good points of the boat. What to watch for, what might need attention (other than the stem plate). Where any leaks might come from, any mods to make the boat more liveable etc. I have a dozen years sailing experience and have owned 2 sailboats previously so am looking for ...

The Mirage 24 was designed by C&C and built by Mirage (it was their first boat). Mirage 24 - Used Sailboat Market in Canada. Everything I've heard about Mirage with respect to quality has been positive. Then again, maintenance is key to a thirty plus year old boat. Good luck, they are a nice looking boat.

The boat left a very clean wake at trolling speed, and maneuverability was nimble in reverse. Subsequent factory tests with a 32 powered by twin 265-hp diesel engines produced speeds in the high 40s at cruise and a top-end of 53 mph, fully loaded with tower.

  11. Mirage 5.5, anyone owned / sailed one.

I heard the claim several times that the Mirage 5.5 was banned from a number of regattas because of that. They don't seem any more dangerous than many other little swing-keel racer-cruisers though. I've sailed one a few times and it does sail relatively well... not bad in light air, balances OK.

  13. The Hobie Mirage Tandem Island

Few designs pack as much fun into 18 feet as the Hobie Mirage Tandem Island, a two-person pedal-or-paddle kayak that converts to a sail-powered trimaran by attaching a pair of akas and amas, and stepping a carbon-fiber mast. The roller-reefing loose-footed mainsail carries a generous amount of sailcloth up high and is supported by vertical battens. The boat s robust rotomolded hull encourages

  14. Opinions on a Mirage 5.5 (20')

13 posts · Joined 2022. #11 · Aug 6, 2024. My first boat was a Mirage 5.5 and I loved it. It is very responsive and under spinnaker it just flys. Took a lot of folks out on it for their first sailing experience and it always impressed. The only issue I had with it was that the keel got a bit sloppy in its fittings.

  18. Mirage 26 and Mirage 27

Mirage 26 and Mirage 27. I'm a very, VERY happy owner of a 1977 (Hull #13) Mirage 26. The boat has been fantastic to my wife and I. We have had her sailing up to 10.3kts (GPS speed) surfing down the back of some rolling waves in the middle of Georgian Bay. Anyways, I started this thread with the hope of getting some info from other owners of ...
