The location of Omiš
This Croatian town is 25 km southeast of Split. Cetina River has its source in the Dinara and later the river meets the Adriatic Sea.
Can you rent a yacht in Omis- do I need a license? The requirements.
Small boats (under a certain horsepower or length), electric boats, crewed yacht charters , gulet charters may not require a license. Larger boats or those with more powerful engines need a skipper’s license. Before you confirm your sailing trip to Trogir, please send us a copy and we will check it for you. You need to have the original copies on board, so don’t forget to take them. To sail from Trogir, one of the following qualifications is necessary : ICC (International Certificate of Competence), Int. IPC (International Proficiency Certificate, USA), NauticEd SLC (International Sailing License and Credentials), RYA Day Skipper Course, valid Navigational and VHF licenses. Alternatively : ICC (International Certificate of Competence), Int. IPC (International Proficiency Certificate, USA), NauticEd SLC (International Sailing License and Credentials, Int.) OR: [UK] RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Certificate or higher, [USA] Sailing ‘Basic Keelboat’ or higher, [DE] ‘Sportbootführerschein See’ or higher, [FR] le Permis Plaisance Additionally, the following documents are necessary : Valid travel documents: USA citizens: EU regulations mandate USA passport holders to have at least three months of validity beyond the planned departure date from Croatia., European Union (EU) citizens: No visa required. Canadian citizens: No visa is required for stays up to 90 days. If you do not have a skipper license, it is also possible to rent a boat with a skipper

Marina Ramova

The history of Omiš
Omiš was founded by the Illyrians. Later, the Roman Empire conquered the territory. The Romans called the town Oneum until the 7th century. The centre was in today’s Baučić district where archaeologists found many artefacts like reliefs, gravestones and coins. The Avars and pagan Slavs destroyed the Roman territory in the 7th century. The Neretva pirates ruled the region in the 9th and 10th centuries. Omiš was first mentioned in 1074 in the Supetar cartulary. Two crusades were led against Neretvans. The first was unsuccessful. But in 1286 the Venetian Republic and the surrounding towns managed to defeat the pirates. During Venetian Rule, locals mostly made a living from fishing. After the dissolution of the Republic of Venice, Omiš came under Austrian rule in 1797. Then, in 1805 it fell into the hands of the French who defeated them. Following the fall of Napoleon at Leipzig, Austria gained power again over Omiš. The town was part of the Serbian-Hungarian-Slovenian Monarchy and until it joined the Independent State of Croatia, it belonged to Yugoslavia.

The gastronomy of Omiš
In the gastronomy of the picturesque Omiš, grilled meat dishes play a very important part. The meals are best accompanied by dry red wine or beer. If you want to enjoy a culinary experience, choose Restaurant Bastion which is known for the fresh fish and seafood dishes. Located in the heart of the Old Town, Puljiz also offers excellent fish dishes. In addition to the delicious thin-crust pizza, Pizzeria Antula has some delicious pasta dishes on the menu like spaghetti, lasagne and tortellini.
Beaches in Omiš
Velika plaža.
As for beaches, the sandy Velika Plaža is the best choice. It is the most popular beach in the town. Velika Plaža is perfect for families with small children because the water deepens slowly. It is well-equipped. You can rent a beach umbrella and a sun lounger on the 700-m long beach. In addition to swimming and surfing, you can play beach volleyball and football here.
Slavinj Beach
This relatively small pebble beach is only a 10-minute walk from the town centre. If you do not want to spend too much time in the sun, the nearby trees provide shade. There are showers and restaurants at the beach. Also, you can rent jet skis.
Brzet Beach
One of the most beautiful beaches is the well-equipped Brzet, with fantastic views of the mountains rising near the town. The beach is 400 m long, and the crystal clear water is perfect for swimming and snorkelling. However, you should be careful because the sea deepens quickly here. On hot summer days, the pine trees surrounding the beach provide cooling shade.

This Dalmatian resort town has a pleasant Mediterranean climate . The warmest month is July with an average temperature of 25, 4 °C. The coldest month is January. If you love water sports, the temperature of the sea can reach up to 24, 9 °C in August.
