BALTIC 108 WINWIN

This spectacular 108-footer is designed by Javier Jaudenes. The modern, powerful lines typified by the wide transom combine with lightweight construction, ensure fast, easy sailing while cruising or racing. A great deal of emphasis was placed on reducing noise and advanced sound insulation techniques ensure that the Baltic 108 has impressively low decibel readings under power and sail.

Among many special features is a lifting keel, submarine anchor system and a sliding glass bulkhead between the deck saloon and cockpit which defines the style of this highly succesful yacht.

Baltic 108 WinWin is built using pre-preg carbon with a foam core. Her modern, functional interior, designed by Design Unlimited, features bleached oak panels.

WINWIN // BALTIC YACHTS

Win-win situation - speed, style, cruising comfort, and modern technology - baltic 108, christened sailing yacht winwin..

WINWIN is a high-tech cruiser/racer constructed in prepreg carbon composite designed by Javier Jaudenes . The yacht was developed for cruising with a lot of comforts and a small crew but also for racing on regattas.

WINWIN has a draft of 5.50 meters but thanks to a lifting keel she can also visit shallow waters. Another underwater feature is a retractable propulsion system to reduce water resistance. A refinement of the system first used on the Baltic 147, Visione, the fixed propeller has been optimized, resulting in lower fuel consumption and a quieter engine, while also proving more effective during reversing maneuvers.

The yacht has been developed to meet the requirements of the DNV Hull structure verification 1A1 classification.

WinWin Yacht Baltic 108

The sleek superstructure encapsulates a long deck saloon, seamlessly connected to a single-level cockpit via the push button retractable glass bulkhead. This bulkhead drops down discreetly, ensuring an uninterrupted transition between interior and exterior. The spacious cockpit features a sunbathing platform on either side and provides an excellent area for fast, efficient maneuvers while racing, and a large enough space for enjoying al fresco dining. The aft crew entrance ensures quietness and owner’s privacy.

Interior of WINWIN

The modern and functional interior comes from the boards of Design Unlimited . and offers six cabins. The forward section is mostly taken up by an exceptionally generous master suite comprising of a large, full-width cabin with en-suite shower room, and a study and owners’ lounge stretching down the port side complete with desk, three-sided settee and ample storage. Facing that across the centerline is a Pullman cabin for the owners to use when passage making, demonstrating that this yacht is intended for serious sailing.

WinWin Yacht Interior

The deck saloon is a well-proportioned seating and entertaining area with plenty of light, not least as a result of the retracting glass bulkhead that leads out to the cockpit center aft section of the boat includes two twin guest cabins each with en-suite, plus a fully-equipped galley, crew mess with navigation station, and two Pullman cabins providing high-quality accommodation for up to four crew. In keeping with the brief for a light, minimalist finish, the interior uses washed and limed oak veneers for the floors and interior joinery. The white high-gloss painted lacquered overheads aid in reflecting light throughout. Concealed light panels help maintain the atmosphere of clean simplicity.

The magazines Superyacht News and The Superyacht Owner sat down with the owner Kim Schindelhauer and the designer for an interview .

“To build this boat, I knew I needed team players, not superstars[…]”

Italy's Luna Rossa eliminates American Magic from the America's Cup

Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli has eliminated NYYC American Magic and advanced to the challenger’s final of the America’s Cup

BARCELONA, Spain -- Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli eliminated NYYC American Magic on Thursday and advanced to the challenger’s final of the America’s Cup .

Luna Rossa won the series 5-3 after a flawless and fast regatta where the Italian yacht finished a minute ahead of its American rival.

“We are super happy. It has been a fantastic journey in this semifinal and we are ready for more,” port helmsman Francesco Bruni said.

Luna Rossa had led the series 4-0 before American Magic made it interesting by scoring three consecutive victories.

INEOS Britannia awaits the Italian yacht in the Louis Vuitton Cup challenger’s final that will begin on Sept. 26. That will be a rematch of the 2021 matchup that Luna Rossa won.

The winner of the series faces defending champion Team Emirates New Zealand in the America’s Cup final next month.

Luna Rossa sealed the win over the Americans a day after it gifted them their third victory, when some rigging broke free on the Italian yacht and left it disabled in the Mediterranean.

But the shore crew fixed the malfunction on the mainsail overnight.

Luna Rossa took the lead in the decider when it cut behind its rival on the first of six legs and never looked back. The Americans were 700 meters behind when the winner crossed the finish line.

“I would just like to mention American Magic for putting up a hell of a fight. They are a champion team and showed it,” Luna Rossa's starboard helmsman Jimmy Spithill said. “This victory has to go to the shore team. They worked all night and this morning looked like a bunch of zombies.”

Luna Rossa swept the Americans 4-0 at the same stage in the 2021 America’s Cup held in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Americans faced adversity this time around when experienced helmsman Paul Goodison was unable to race in the series after he fell on the boat and cracked some ribs. Lucas Calabrese took his place and performed admirably, according to co-helm Tom Slingsby, despite his limited hours in the super foiling yacht.

American Magic needed to win the two races scheduled on Thursday to advance.

“Huge congratulations to Luna Rossa, the better team won,” Slingsby said. “We've got to hold our heads high, as much as I am stewing on some bad decisions in that race. But given where we were last week, we had a huge improvement in that short time.”

Yacht with fireworks on board goes up in flames in Marina del Rey

Neighbors reported the sounds of frightening explosions coming from the vessel., by missael soto • published september 18, 2024 • updated 2 hours ago.

Witnesses described powerful explosions as a large yacht with fireworks and unspent ammunition on board went up in flames Wednesday night in Marina del Rey.

Neighbors were worried the fire would jump to nearby boats after hearing loud explosions coming from the 100-foot vessel.

📺 Los Angeles news 24/7: Watch NBC4 free wherever you are

"I saw it fully engulfed in flames and like many of us living here heard an explosion and saw fireworks coming off it, and more flames and then walked down here and captured video of it," said Marina del Rey resident Lynn Rose.

In addition to the fireworks, an LA County Fire Captain told NBC4 that there was live ammunition on the vessel.

"According to boat owner 1,000 rounds of unspent ammunition and fireworks onboard,'' the county fire department said in a statement Thursday morning.

The call came in at around 8:30 p.m. of a vessel burning at 2201 Basin A in Marina del Rey.

"It’s a delicate balance with putting the fire out and not sinking the boat, there are a lot of environmental hazards on the boat fuel oil what have you, and so we’re doing that delicate dance of putting the fire out but not sinking the vessel in the slip," said Capt. Pono Barnes, of lifeguard services with the LA County Fire Department.

Everything you need to know about the 37th America’s Cup

Follow the build-up to the 37th America’s Cup as the teams prepare to fight it out for the oldest sporting trophy in the world.

Which teams are in the 37th America’s Cup?

In 2021 four teams raced in fully foiling AC75 monohulls which were conceived specifically for the event by then Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand and Challenger of Record, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.

These same four teams have returned for the 2024 America’s Cup and are by joined by two additional teams, bringing the total number of entries up to 6.

yacht win win

Emirates Team New Zealand – America’s Cup Defender

As the current holder of the America’s Cup, Emirates Team New Zealand will be racing again in the 37th America’s Cup. As the Defender, the Kiwis are guaranteed a spot in the America’s Cup regatta itself.

Any other challengers will need to race each other in the Louis Vuitton Cup to win the right to be the single challenger in the America’s Cup regatta itself.

Emirates Team New Zealand represent the Royal Auckland Yacht Club in America’s Cup racing.

INEOS Britannia – America’s Cup Challenger of Record

The Challenger of Record is the name given to the first yacht club to challenge the holder of the America’s Cup once it has been won.

When Emirates Team New Zealand successfully completed their defence of the America’s Cup in 2021, the Royal Yacht Squadron immediately issued a challenge on behalf of Ben Ainslie’s INEOS Team UK (now called INEOS Britannia), so they are Challenger of Record for the 37th America’s Cup .

INEOS Britannia and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team has strengthened an exhausting relationship, with the British challenger standing to benefit from the technical and engineering experience of the multiple World Champion F1 team.

Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli

Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli has a very long America’s Cup history having first competed in 2000 and has taken part in every Cup since (with the exception of the unique 2010 Deed of Gift match).

For the 36th America’s Cup Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli were the challenger of record. They also won the challenger selection series so it was this Italian team who took on Emirates Team New Zealand for the America’s Cup itself.

The team has returned for the 37th America’s Cup though this time they are not the official challenger of record.

American Magic

In 2021 the New York Yacht Clubs’ American Magic was also competing, though their event was ultimately ruined by a capsize in the early part of the regatta . They did get the boat rebuilt but it never got back up to speed and they made an early exit.

The 2021 campaign marked the return of the New York Yacht Club to the America’s Cup. The NYYC held the America’s Cup from its inception in 1851 right the way through to 1983, when they were defeated by the Royal Perth Yacht Club’s Australia II .

Alinghi Red Bull Racing

Eliminated in the louis vuitton cup semi-final.

Another team making a return to the America’s Cup scene after a long break will be Ernesto Bertarelli’s Alinghi team. The Swiss team won the America’s Cup in 2003 and then completed a successful defence in 2007.

However, a serious falling out over the potential rules for the next America’s Cup saw Alinghi taken to court by Larry Ellison and his BMW Oracle team, the 2010 America’s Cup was held between Alinghi and BMW Oracle Racing in a Deed of Gift match that saw the teams fight it out in huge multihulls.

BMW Oracle won the contest and Alinghi stepped away from America’s Cup racing.

Alinghi’s return was a welcome one and their Cup history alongside their partnership with Red Bull Racing should have seen them a solid challenge from the off. Unfortunately the complexity of the AC75s is clear and this team had too much to do to catch up to those involved in the 2021 Cup.

Alinghi was eliminated from the competition by INEOS Britannia in the Louis Vuitton Cup Semi-Final.

Orient Express Racing Team

Eliminated louis vuitton cup round robin series.

The French entry to the 2024 America’s Cup was long rumoured but it was not until quite late in the day that they officially announced their intention to challenge.

It was in early 2023 that the official announcement came of a French AC entry, backed by Accor Group and its brands Orient Express and ALL-ACCOR Live Limitless.

As a fairly late challenge they will had a lot to do to be competitive, but they struck a great – and controversial – deal with Team New Zealand to buy their boat design, so were able to skip a few steps on the learning curve.

Ultimately the French team did better than many expected, but their comparative lack of AC75 experience saw them knocked out in the first found of the Louis Vuitton Cup.

What boats are in the 37th America’s Cup

The class of boat to be used in the 2024 America’s Cup is once again the AC75 . These boats were first brought in ahead of the 36th America’s Cup so this will be their second outing.

The foiling monohulls are slightly different in 2024, with rules being tweaked partly aimed at improving light wind performance and reducing crew numbers from 11 to 8.

Teams are only be allowed to build one AC75 and nationality rules are strict this time around requiring 100% of the race crew for each competitor to either be a passport holder of the country of the team’s yacht club or to have been physically present in that country for 18 months of the previous three years prior to 17th March 2021.

Emirates Team New Zealand saw success in 2017 in Bermuda with their Cyclors . Having been banned in 2021, these have made a return for the 37th America’s Cup.

Where is the 37th America’s Cup held?

Barcelona, Spain was selected in 2022 as the venue for the 37th America’s Cup , marking the first time a New Zealand team has chosen to defend a Cup win overseas.

The home city of Emirates Team New Zealand and the venue for the 36th America’s Cup, Auckland, had an exclusive period in which to tender for the regatta immediately after the Kiwis’ successful defence in 2021, but the sums on offer were not enough, and Emirates Team New Zealand CEO Grant Dalton cast the net wider internationally after rejecting a NZ$99 million (£50 million) offer from the New Zealand government.

A number venues were mooted including: Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Cork, Ireland; Malaga, Spain, but Barcelona eventually won out.

When is the 37th America’s Cup?

The America’s Cup will be held in 2024 in Barcelona. Racing in the 37th America’s Cup Match itself, which is a best of 13 (first to seven) format will start on Saturday 12th October 2024 and could run all the way to the 27th October should all the races be needed to pick a winner.

The America’s Cup will be proceeded by the challenger selection series, which will see which of the five challengers gets the honour to race New Zealand for the Cup itself.

Racing for the Challenger Selection Series – officially the Louis Vuitton Cup, will take place between the 29 August 2024 and 7 October 2024.

Match Racing

Though the America’s Cup was first raced for in 1851 ( and won by the schooner America from which the trophy gets its name), this race was between a fleet of boats. A challenge by the British in the 1870s was also conducted as a fleet race.

By the 1880s, following a protest from the British, the America’s Cup was decided in a head-to-head match race where two boats sail against each other.

Match racing is a particular skill and encourages aggressive manoeuvres using the rules to put your opponent at a disadvantage. This cut-and-thrust racing, where the only objective is to beat your opponent, has long been at the heart of America’s Cup racing and produces a thrilling spectacle.

Repeat win for Corinthian Yacht Club

Published on September 14th, 2024 by Editor -->

A command performance by Corinthian Yacht Club (Marblehead, MA) saw the well-honed team skippered by Wade Waddell take its second consecutive victory in the prestigious Resolute Cup, held September 11-14 in Newport, RI. The victory secures the venerable club a berth in the 2025 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup.

Serving as a Corinthian Championship for U.S. Yacht Clubs. the 2024 edition showcased teams representing 28 yacht clubs from around the country who fielded their best sailors to compete. Twenty races were sailed over four days in the Opening Series, with the top 14 boats advancing to a two-race Medal Series on the final afternoon when scores were doubled for each race.

Waddell, 27, and his team of Doug Sabin, Duncan Swain, and Miranda Bakos, finished 18 of 20 races sailed in the Opening Series inside of the top five and won the regatta by sixteen points.

New York Yacht Club, skippered by Peter Levesque, finished second, and Mystic River Mudheads Sailing Association, skippered by Peter Lynn, took third, winning a tiebreaker with Eastern Yacht Club, which scored fourth in a repeat of its 2022 result. An impressive showing by Detroit’s Bayview Yacht Club rounded out the top five.

yacht win win

“Winning a second time feels amazing!” says Waddell. “It’s never been done before; no other club has won twice so we are happy to be the first ones to do it. I am sure everyone at home is thrilled.”

Waddell credits his hugely successful Northeastern team for their epic repeat performance.

“We all did this two years ago with exactly the same team,” says Waddell. “Our main trimmer, Doug is CYC’s Rear Commodore and a Sonar World Champion. He really gets the boat going fast around the course all the time.

“Duncan does bow and trims jib for us and he brings a great energy to the boat. Miranda has won almost every regatta she has ever tried to win, she’s extremely good and a constant on the boat; she keeps the three guys in line and focused. We have a tremendous amount of trust in each other.”

No longer a Resolute Cup rookie, Waddell knew coming in that he’d be up against a spectacularly competitive fleet; from the outset, the focus was on keeping their scores low.

“We knew it was going to be a super deep fleet,” says Waddell. “Sonars are pretty even boats and everyone here is very good at sailing. We knew it was going to be tight racing. We reviewed results from 2018, which was a similar format to this year and saw that the winners averaged about a six, so we had that number in the back of our heads of what we were trying to average out over the course of the regatta. I think we did better than that.

Following the conclusion of the Opening Series, the Medal Series fleet endured a long wait for a marginal breeze to eventuate, causing the Corinthian Yacht Club team just a little anxiety until the breeze filled in.

“The conditions were pretty sketchy—puffy and shifty—which made it unclear what side was going to be favored so that certainly made it tight,” says Waddell. “We waited for a few hours for the medal races to start which made me anxious.

“Going into the last medal race, we were 26 points up on New York so they would have had to win, and we would have had to get last in order to not win the regatta. Our strategy was, ‘Hey, we just need to beat one boat. Let’s start in the middle, have a conservative start and just play the fleet’.”

Waddell is already looking out to next year’s Invitational Cup; after taking second in 2023, the Corinthian team is going to be a force to be reckoned with in 2025.

“This is the first checkmark to get into the Invitational, and now we have our eyes set on climbing to the top of the mountain at that regatta and getting back there to have a strong finish—we have an amazing team to accomplish that,” says Waddell.

“We have great teammates back home at the Corinthian Yacht Club who support us, it’s really a fantastic family culture, we encourage each other, push each other hard at practice, and it pays off at these regattas.”

A notoriously challenging event for newcomers given the high premium on talent, Charleston Yacht Club put on a convincing performance at their first Resolute Cup to finish 11th overall. Three of the team—David Dabney, Joe Pitcavage, and John Colarusso—sailed together on the College of Charleston sailing team, while Megan Riddle-Tracy was on the College of Charleston team in later years.

With no experience racing together in Newport and little in the Sonar, the team’s strategy coming into the event was to observe the old guard.

“We watched closely the people who sail these boats often to try to figure out little tips, how to make them go fast, how to stay in clean air and keep the boat going fast, that was our plan,” says Dabney.

“It’s been top competition; at the top weather mark a boat length and a half is the difference between top five and bottom five, so tough racing, but a lot of fun. Next time we’ll feel more confident knowing the racecourses, the tide and current, it would be nice to have more inside information on that, but it wasn’t a factor holding us back—we had plenty of other things holding us back!”

The Corinthian Spirit Award, voted by all competitors as well as the Organizing Authority, was awarded to Little Traverse Yacht Club, skippered by veteran Scott Sellers.

“This is my third time doing this regatta, I haven’t done it in 10 years but I had the opportunity this year between work and family to pull it off so I’m really grateful to be here, I couldn’t turn it down,” says Sellers.

“Sailing out of Harbour Court with this level of competition is a special experience. I like racing the Sonar, they’re equal so it makes for great tight racing, and the New York Yacht Club does a first-class job of throwing good events. It’s so great to see so many old friends and to meet a lot of new friends. NYYC does a great job of making it happen.”

Postseason spot secured, Yanks want more: 'The job's not finished'

New york wins a thriller in seattle, securing 59th trip to playoffs in franchise history.

Bryan Hoch

SEATTLE -- Soaked head to toe in various alcoholic beverages, Juan Soto squinted and grinned in the eye of an indoor hurricane, boasting about the enjoyment and camaraderie he has found with the Yankees. The superstar put on pinstripes expecting to carry the sport’s most storied franchise back to the postseason, and now they have arrived.

The Yankees will be ready for October, securing a playoff berth with a 2-1, 10-inning victory over the Mariners on Wednesday evening at T-Mobile Park. The gleeful outfielder doused teammates with bubbly and beer, found himself on the receiving end of several showers, and even paused for a brief dance break when a favorite track blasted through the clubhouse speakers.

"We believe in each other,” Soto said. “That’s what makes me think that we can go all the way, because we believe in each other. We don’t try to be the hero out there. We just try to do our job and try to win games.”

• Postseason FAQ: What's next for Yankees?

Soto’s arrival represented a pivotal moment for this Yankees club, which toasted its return to the postseason after a one-year absence, then forecast more celebrations ahead. It has been 15 years since the Yankees appeared in a World Series, and this drenched traveling party believes that its journey has only just begun.

yacht win win

"We definitely know the job’s not finished. We want the division,” said captain Aaron Judge . “But to get an opportunity to punch our ticket back into the postseason after last year, missing out, it means a lot. We’ve got a special group here, and the boys are definitely excited.”

The Yankees own the American League’s best record at 89-63, and sit five games ahead of the Orioles in the AL East with 10 contests remaining. It is their largest lead of the season.

"We’ve been through a lot already this year,” manager Aaron Boone said. “We understand it’s just the first step, but it’s an important one. We’re in the dance."

The first hints that building blocks for a winning season were in place could be glimpsed through chain-link fences on February mornings in Tampa, Fla., where recognizable players arrived weeks ahead of their mandated report dates. The blockbuster trade to import Soto, consummated during the Winter Meetings, had everyone dreaming big.

While the powerful tandem of Soto and Judge delivered on their promise all summer, other contributors stepped in to secure the last win needed to turn the lights on at Yankee Stadium this October.

On Wednesday, Nestor Cortes fired six scoreless innings and Anthony Rizzo doubled home the go-ahead run in the 10th inning to overcome Clay Holmes’ 13th blown save as the Yankees secured the franchise’s 59th postseason appearance.

"We’ve played really good baseball the last week or two,” Cortes said. “We’ve put a really good team together, and there’s more to come.”

Assured of at least a Wild Card spot while continuing to target the AL East title, this marks the Bombers’ seventh playoff appearance in eight seasons since 2017.

"They’re the best fans in the game, the best fans in the world, so having that stadium back up for the playoffs is going to be really special,” said catcher Austin Wells.

Soto and Judge have more than pulled their weight, becoming the third Yankees duo to each hit at least 40 homers in a season, joining Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig (1927, ’30, ’31) and Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle (1961). Boone described his players’ impact as “historical.”

"All that was in my mind was just trying to help the team, and I think that’s the biggest thing for me,” Soto said. “Since Day 1, all we talked about was trying to be together and push together as a team."

In addition to the December trade for Soto, the club has benefited from better health -- the Yankees’ 2023 chances never recovered from seeing Judge crash into a low-lying concrete wall at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium. This year, Boone said, his club has proven much more equipped to handle those challenges.

Another important ingredient, according to several players, has been the hunger that resulted from watching other teams play in the season’s most meaningful games.

Boone admitted that the ’23 Yankees “weren’t a great team,” barely keeping the club’s streak of winning records alive with an 82-win campaign, and believes that this year’s edition “has the chance to do something special.”

October Ready. #RepBX pic.twitter.com/O3pA3rrELX — New York Yankees (@Yankees) September 19, 2024

What they do with that opportunity will ultimately determine how the roster is remembered. For now, it was a night to toast what could be.

"Throughout the year, there were a lot of ups and downs,” Judge said. “This group never wavered. They just stayed the course.”

Who was on superyacht that sank off Sicily?

Twenty-two people were on board the Bayesian superyacht including British technology tycoon Mike Lynch, his wife and 18-year-old daughter, and Morgan Stanley International boss Jonathan Bloomer.

Details have emerged of the 22 people who were on board the superyacht that sank off the coast of Sicily.

The British-flagged vessel named Bayesian was carrying 12 passengers and 10 members of crew when it got into difficulty in the early hours of Monday.

Seven bodies have now been recovered. The other 15 people on board were rescued.

Here's what we know about those who were on the yacht.

British technology tycoon Mike Lynch was among the original six people missing. On Thursday, divers confirmed his body had been recovered.

Raised in Ilford, east London by Irish parents, the 59-year-old made millions with the software company Autonomy he set up in 1996.

He had an estimated net worth of £852m, according to the 2023 Sunday Times Rich List, and is believed to have owned the yacht.

Off the back of Automomy's global success, Mr Lynch was given the roles of science adviser to former prime minister David Cameron and non-executive director of the BBC.

The Cambridge maths and sciences graduate sold the firm for £8.64bn to US giant Hewlett Packard (HP) in 2011.

Dubbed the "British Bill Gates", Mr Lynch has been in the headlines in recent months over a high-profile fraud case related to the sale of Autonomy to HP in 2011.

HP accused him of deliberately overstating the value of the company before it was acquired by the American technology firm. Mr Lynch denied any wrongdoing.

In June, a US jury cleared him of all charges .

Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah Lynch was also on board. A body believed to be that of the teenager was recovered on Friday from the yacht wreckage.

She had been on holiday with her parents, having secured a place to study English at the University of Oxford, according to reports.

Her former school, Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, west London, said they were "incredibly shocked by the news that Hannah and her father are among those missing in this tragic accident" when the yacht first sank.

Angela Bacares

Mr Lynch's wife Angela Bacares was on board the yacht and was rescued.

The 57-year-old said she and Mr Lynch were awoken by the boat "tilting" at 4am - half an hour before it sank.

Jonathan Bloomer

Jonathan Bloomer is the chairman of Morgan Stanley Pic: Hiscox/ Linkedin

Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of investment bank Morgan Stanley International, was confirmed dead on Thursday.

According to the Financial Times, Mr Bloomer appeared as a defence witness for Mr Lynch during his US criminal trial and the pair were good friends. He also chaired Autonomy's audit committee.

The 70-year-old was the chief executive of UK-Hong Kong insurer Prudential until he was ousted by the board in 2005.

He was also chairman of the insurance provider Hiscox.

Judy Bloomer

Mr Bloomer's wife Judy was on the yacht trip with her husband. Divers confirmed they found her body on Thursday.

Mrs Bloomer was a former board member at The Eve Appeal charity, which focuses on gynaecological cancers.

The charity described her as a "brilliant champion for women's health and medical research... an incredible supporter, committee member, and trustee of our charity for over 20 years".

He was Canadian-Antiguan and part of the crew of the Bayesian.

His body was the first to be recovered from the wreckage.

Chris Morvillo

US lawyer Chris Morvillo was among those divers found dead on Thursday.

The father-of-two worked on Mr Lynch's US fraud trial and was a partner of law firm Clifford Chance's US branch.

Mr Morvillo was assistant attorney for the Southern District of New York between 1995 and 2005 and worked on the terrorist investigation into the 9/11 attacks.

In a recent LinkedIn post, he thanked the legal team that helped win Mr Lynch's trial.

Signing off the post, he said: "And, finally, a huge thank you to my patient and incredible wife, Neda Morvillo, and my two strong, brilliant, and beautiful daughters, Sabrina Morvillo and Sophia Morvillo.

"None of this would have been possible without your love and support. I am so glad to be home. And they all lived happily ever after…."

"I held her afloat with all my strength, my arms stretched upwards to keep her from drowning," she said.

"It was all dark. In the water I couldn't keep my eyes open. I screamed for help but all I could hear around me was the screams of others."

The 35-year-old is a partner at one of Mr Lynch's firms - Invoke Capital - and has worked there since 2012, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She also worked at Hewlett Packard, which acquired Autonomy in 2011, for 11 months.

Before that, she studied history at the University of Oxford.

Jim furyk is fired up for the presidents cup and offended if you don't want the u.s. to win: 'go eff yourself', share this article.

yacht win win

When Wyndham Clark mentioned that the U.S. players and assistant captains were gathering for a barbecue hosted by Captain Jim Furyk on the eve of the Procore Championship in Napa, California, I texted Furyk to find out what he was making.

“Chicken and steaks,” he replied. “News travels. You are the second media person to ask.”

Twenty minutes later, we were chatting on a bench at the putting green at Silverado Resort on a beautiful, warm sunny day, talking about final preparations for the Presidents Cup in Montreal, his captain’s picks and a bit of a walk down memory lane. Much of the transcript of that conversation is covered below but we’re going to skip ahead in the action to the most riveting part, where I mentioned to Furyk that for the sake of the future of the biennial competition, which the U.S. has dominated at a clip of 14-1-1 or admittedly as close as Alabama warming up for its SEC slate of games in September, we needed the equivalent of Eastern Michigan to take down mighty Notre Dame.

To no surprise, Furyk, a past U.S. Open champ who should be enshrined in the next class of the World Golf Hall of Fame, is a fierce competitor and he didn’t like my take one bit.

“Really? You’re American,” Furyk said. “I do actually take offense at that. I don’t hate you but it’s a pretty shi–y thing to say.”

I realized I had stepped out of line so I started backtracking and explaining that as a journalist, I don’t root for either team but the saying is we root for the story. I’ve covered every Presidents Cup since 2011 and I’m still waiting to see the International Team win. I’ve seen a couple close calls in Korea in 2015 and Australia in 2019 but also a shellacking at Liberty National in 2017, where the U.S. nearly clinched on Saturday and made the singles a moot point. “Nothing personal,” I said, “but the competition really needs an International Team victory to energize the matches.”

Furyk shared a story from the 2017 Presidents Cup when a high-ranking official at the PGA Tour (he didn’t disclose the individual) said, “Good luck, this week.”

But to Furyk it seemed disingenuous. “Just the way he said it, it was so back-handed. I said, ‘You know, I’m not exactly sure I know what that’s supposed to mean,’ ” Furyk recounted.

The suit from the Tour gave a similar reasoning that an International Team victory that week “would really help the event.”

It ticked off Furyk now and it ticked him off then.

“Did you ever play anything in your entire life as a competitor? Because I’d rather you not even say good luck than say it and not even mean it. Do you know how hard, how many hours, the captains work to try to win these matches? Do you know how hard and how much effort the players, how hard they take it when they don’t play well? I’ve seen grown men cry in the locker room because they’re upset and I’ve seen how much it means to them when they do play well. I know what you’re saying, but do you know how offended I am? He said, ‘Well, I’m sorry.’ I said, ‘No, you should know better.’ “

Furyk’s point of that story was that so should I. And then he dropped the hammer on me, probably the most-un-Jim-Furyk-like thing he’s ever uttered to the press. “So it’s not like I’m killing you right now, but F–k you. Go f–k yourself. You can quote me on that one,” he said.

That’s also the most fiery I’ve seen Furyk and that could be the passion the American squad needs from its captain North of the Border. I share this story to let you know that Captain Furyk is fired up and he’s not taking anything for granted. He’s not leading some goodwill tour to grow the game; he’s all business and he’s ready to lead the U.S. team to victory in Montreal.

GWK: Were you always planning on coming to Napa to check on your team members playing here and see your assistants?

JF: Yeah, I think it was going to depend on how many folks we had. I assume we probably have two to four and with three players and then having the assistant captains, three of them out here was icing on the cake as well. I get a chance to spend some time with Stewie and Kiz and now Sneds together. Plus, it’s not bad. It doesn’t suck.

GWK: Of the captain's picks, which player had the most visceral response? Did anybody cry or say hell, yeah?

JF: They were all excited. Keegan was definitely jacked up, yeah, but he’s, I think a lot of it’s in the personality. Like the one time I got that call, I was excited, but it’s not in my nature to like portray that as much, you know what I mean. So I think you look at someone like Keegan, who wears his emotions on his sleeve, good or bad, versus someone like Russell Henley, who’s a little bit more laid back and relaxed, but they all were very cool calls to make.

GWK: Was there a chance you would have taken Jordan Spieth, who went 5-0 in 2022, if he hadn't had surgery on his wrist?

JF: It’s funny, I was already talking to him. He reached out to me weeks before all that had come out that his wrist was bothering him, and we talked about what it was, and it was funny, because I said it sounds a lot like what Luke Donald went through. He said, ‘Who did your surgery?’ I told him my guy retired but he’s become a very good friend, and if you’d like to reach out just to get an opinion, he’ll know every surgeon that you’re working with. He was like the head of the hand and wrist society, but he’ll just give you a dog in the fight. We were already talking about it beforehand.

GWK: Any more sense whether Fluff’s going to be able to be your cart driver?

2022 TimberTech Championship

JF:  He thinks he’s coming up. I think he’s gotten a go-ahead from his doctor as far as travel. I don’t know how strong and mobile he is right now. He said he’s starting to get around. I might end up being his cart driver.

GWK: Did you realize that your picks were Nos. 7-12 in the point standings?

JF:  Yeah. Trust me, I knew the points so well. I knew everyone’s stats, and I knew world ranking, and I knew, like, yeah, it really didn’t work, and it’s not the reason I did what I did, but I know it’s funny looking at it. They were also, and it didn’t matter again, but they were also the top 12 in overall rankings as well, not in the same specific order, but it was the same 12 guys in points or ranking. One of the things we have in the U.S., we just have so much depth and so many good players, it’s going to be controversial. Not everyone’s going to agree with the direction the captain goes. And that’s part of being captain.

GWK: I know you weren't allowed to, but had you been able to would you have chosen any of the LIV guys to be part of your team?

JF:  It would have been hard not to take Bryson (DeChambeau) as well as he’s played. I think that in his last team event he kind of hit a nice groove and we found a partnership that worked for him when he was part of the Ryder Cup team at Whistling Straits.

GWK: What do you like more about the Presidents Cup versus the Ryder Cup?

JF:  I like the extra matches. Guys work hard to make these teams, and they want to play. I like the back-and-forth picks by the captains. When I was a player, I would always follow along and if we had first pick, I’d be saying, “All right, captain, put me out. Ooh, this guy thinks he can beat me.” Every player in that field, no matter what side you’re on, has a chip on the shoulder.

GWK: What are your fondest memories from playing in the Presidents Cup?

2013 Presidents Cup

JF: Playing for Jack Nicklaus was really cool. I played Weirsy in South Africa when we had that epic tie (2003) and we were the first match out. It was one of the only times that a captain ever put me out real early like that. I was usually a match No. 7-8-9-10 guy. Finished my match-up and shook Mike’s hand. Jack was there on the green, and he said, ‘Hop in the cart with me,’ and I spent the next two, two and a half hours in the cart listening to him break down matches. I remember how exciting everything was, and running around and then in the playoff we all went around following the action.

GWK: Didn’t you go 5-0 one time?

JF: In 2011. I went from Player of the Year to a year that I didn’t play too well to the point where I finished 10 th  in points, and so I just kind of squeaked my way onto the team. I made a ball switch. I was messing around with another ball during alternate shot. Believe it or not, it was Phil’s. He was playing a Callaway ball that spun a lot, which is uncharacteristic for him. It was a lower launch, higher spin ball. It helped me get on top of the ball again. I played three of the matches with Phil and I played four-ball with Nick Watney and I was worn out by that one. I didn’t play very well in that match but he did and we won that match. Then I beat Ernie in singles.

GWK: If the over/under was 3.5 Canadians (on the International Team), which would you have picked?

JF:  I always felt like it would be three for sure, possibly four. Five would put a lot of pressure on Weirsy. I guess it all depends on whether you asked me in January versus June versus September, but kind of most of it I was thinking, three or four. It was looking like four for quite a while.

Wherever those three (Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, Taylor Pendrith) go, you’ll definitely know it. I’ll be curious whether he partners them together, or if they split them up. All I know is we need to worry about us, our process, what we’re trying to do and take care of our business.

More: Kevin Kisner is in charge of keeping Team USA loose, and there’s no one better equipped for the job

GWK: Do you expect this to be your last hurrah in the team competitions?

JF:  There’s a good chance of that. I’m kind of aging out of it. You never know, someone might want to bring back an old guy just for some experience. I think it’s good to have some experience on your side. Stewart (Cink) did a lot last year and I worked really well with him at the Ryder Cup. If it were me, I’d bring some recent Ryder Cup captain back because there are too many years of cumulative knowledge among our group not to tap into that.

GWK: Are you planning to have a former coach or inspirational speaker address the team at all?

JF:  Not planning on it but things come up. I think we’re motivated, we have a good core of leaders, some new guys who’ve stepped up and they’ve already done a few things that I’ve really enjoyed. You can make guys nervous. Some of that stuff can be really good and can be awesome but it also can make guys nervous and make things bigger than it really is. I just want guys to be them. You don’t have to do anything special, don’t have to be perfect, you just have to go play golf.

GWK: How is your ping pong game?

JF:  Not very good. Ping pong makes me nervous. Guys are too competitive. They’re diving around. I’m telling you, someone is going to get hurt one of these days.

GWK:  Does that mean no table in the team room?

We’ll see. Maybe, maybe not. But I’ve seen guys in a full-blown sweat playing ping pong and diving – it makes no sense. I almost twisted my ankle one year at the Belfry. I stopped playing after that. But if you put so many guys together who are hyper-competitive and don’t want to lose you’re going to get some crazy stuff happen.

GWK: Don’t hate me for this but I kind of hope your team loses.

JF:  Really? You’re American. You’ve got to understand, I do actually take offense at that. I don’t hate you but it’s a pretty shi–y thing to say.

GWK:  It’s nothing personal, but the competition really needs an International Team victory to energize the matches.

JF:  I’ll leave you with this. I was in New York helping out Steve Stricker at Liberty National and a very high-ranking official at the PGA Tour said, “Good luck, this week.” Just the way he said it, it was so back-handed. I said, “You know, I’m not exactly sure I know what that’s suppose to mean.” He said, “Well, you know, it would really help the event.” I said, “Really? Did you ever play anything in your entire life as a competitor? Because I’d rather you not even say good luck than say it and not even mean it. Do you know how hard, how many hours, the captains work to try to win these matches? Do you know how hard and how much effort the players, how hard they take it when they don’t play well? I know what you’re saying, but do you know how offended I am?” He said, “Well, I’m sorry.” I said, “No, you should know better.” So it’s not like I’m killing you right now, but f–k you.
