Overlooking our stunning 300-berth Marina on the Gold Coast’s waters, this location is a perfect venue for your next conference, function or waterfront wedding.

The Hollywell Clubhouse is home to our SYC sailing squadron, along with a Bar & Bistro. It’s the ideal place to grab a cold drink and watch one of our many off-the-beach Sailing events. Southport Yacht Club Marina, located on one of the most beautiful waterfronts on the Gold Coast.

With 300 berths in the Marina, we are also home to Australia’s Largest Floating Megayacht Berth at 160 meters, accommodating vessels up to 135 meters. The Megayacht berth offers up to 600amp power , camera surveillance across the dock, grants a drive on pontoon for ease of provisioning and a service road for craning or bunkering. 

Southport Yacht Club is also an Australian Port of Entry for clearing vessels arriving and departing Internationally.

Additional facilities on hand include, 24hr security surveillance, access to wireless internet, proximity card Access, gym, onshore amenities, 24hr fuel jetty with fuel bunkering available for larger vessels. SYC hardstand has a 35m ton travel lift providing easy access to 20 hardstand places ranging in size from 20ft to 50ft.

Exclusive Waterfront Dining can be enjoyed from our two Gold Coast locations. The award-winning Waterfront Restaurant at the SYC Main Beach Clubhouse or the Bistro at the SYC Hollywell Sailing Academy.

The north facing 4Shore Bar, located outdoors on the lawn, broadcasting the Marina is the perfect place for the captains and crew to unwind, watch the sunset, enjoy a cocktail, or listen to live music.

Live updates as Southport stabbing suspect named in court

A 17-year-old from Banks has been charged with three counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder

A teenager accused of the Southport mass stabbings has been named in court as Axel Rudakubana. The 17-year-old appeared today in court after he was charged with the murders of Bebe King, six; Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, who were killed in the Southport stabbing tragedy on Monday.

The ECHO was initially unable to name him for legal reasons. However, following applications from the press, the Honorary Recorder of Liverpool, Andrew Menary KC, declined to make an order under Section 45 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 concerning the defendant's identity. We can therefore reveal, for the first time, that his name is Axel Rudakubana.

The knife attacks happened at a Taylor Swift dance class at the Hart Space in Southport on Monday, July 29. The teenager, from Banks, Lancashire, has been charged with three counts of murder, ten counts of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.

He was remanded in custody last night and appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court in Derby Square this morning. His case was then sent to Liverpool Crown Court. He has been formally remanded into custody until proceedings are completed. Judge Menary said: “You are remanded into youth accommodation detention until proceedings are completed. I am not granting you bail today.”

An order was made to apply reporting restrictions in respect of the children who are named as injured parties in the attempted murder counts. Monday's attack, which was declared a 'major incident,' saw a huge emergency service response and has led to an outpouring of grief across the region, and the country, as the scale of the loss of life became clear. We are reporting live from court today.

Potential trial date scheduled.

A potential trial date is scheduled for January 20 next year, “allowing for a number of weeks if required”.

A plea hearing is meanwhile set for October 25.

Judge Menary: “Mr Rudakubana, I am going to adjourn this matter now. The next hearing as far as you are concerned is a plea and trial preparation hearing on October 25.

“You, as I have already indicated, will now be remanded into secure accommodation. You may go with the officer.”

Rudakubana remanded into custody

Judge Menary formally remands Rudakubana, whose 18th birthday will fall on Wednesday next week, into custody and tells him: "You are remanded into youth accommodation detention until proceedings are completed. I am not granting you bail today."

After hearing submissions, Judge Menary declines to make an order under Section 45 concerning the defendant’s identity.

The Echo can therefore reveal that his name is Axel Rudakubana.

Discussions about reporting restrictions ongoing

Both the prosecution and defence are making arguments regarding reporting restrictions.

Injured children will receive anonymity in proceedings

Ms Heer outlines the charges before the court again.

Ms Heer says: “The defendant appeared before the youth court this morning when his case was sent to the crown court for trial. He was remanded in youth detention accommodation. He had the benefit in the court below of reporting restrictions under Section 49 of the Children and Young Persons Act of 1933.

"I should indicate that the prosecution will apply for two reporting restrictions, first in respect of the defendant and secondly in respect of the children who are named as injured parties in the attempted murder count."

Ms Heer says there is "no objection" to the latter.

This order is therefore made by the judge.

Recorder of Liverpool asks defendant to identify himself

Judge Menary asks whether the youth is able to "acknowledge his identity in some way, even by nodding".

He remains sitting with his head bowed in the dock.

Mr Becker says: "Mr Whitehead has been with the defendant since his arrest. It is the same person as has been arrested and has been in the police station and lower court."

Judge Menary replies: "I am satisfied he is who he appears to be."

The hearing can now begin.

Youth to appear before the Recorder of Liverpool

The youth will now appear before the Honorary Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary KC later this morning.

This hearing will take place in courtroom 41.

Judge Hatton: "I formally send the case to the crown court. He will appear there later on this morning. The position thereafter is bail and the next step for a youth defendant. He needs to be aware that I do not have any powers to grant him bail."

The judge also remands the defendant into youth detention accommodation due to the "nature and seriousness of the offences".

Judge Hatton adds: "Because of the nature of the charges you face, I have to send the case to the crown court. I formally do so now. You will appear before the crown court today. A more senior judge will make directions and determinations in this case. This court does not have the power to grant you bail."

Ms Heer: "The three counts of murder mean this court must send the case to the crown court."

Mr Whitehead agrees.

The defendant is brought into the dock.

He is flanked by three members of staff and wears a grey prison issue tracksuit, using his jumper to cover his mouth before sitting with his head bowed.

His name, address and date of birth are put to him by the court clerk, although he does not speak.

The charges are put to him, including the attempted murders of Leanne Lucas and John Hayes.

She says that the case will be sent to the crown court, with the defendant to appear before the higher court this morning.

Ms Heer suggests that any application by the media for reporting restrictions to be lifted should be made at that stage.

The court also hears that reporting restrictions will automatically apply to the children named as complainants in the counts of attempted murder.

17-year-old cannot be named

The law grants anonymity to people under the age of 18 in legal proceedings.

That extends to the child's name, address, school and any image that might make it easier to identify who they are. Their anonymity is preserved throughout the legal process.
