American Express’ lounge network covers both domestic U.S. locations and key international cities. Hong Kong is one of American Express’ international flagship Centurion Lounge locations and features a well-equipped facility that provides complimentary food, drinks, areas to relax, tables to work and restrooms to freshen up.
While the lounge isn’t as large as other locations, the Centurion Lounge Hong Kong plays host to several upgraded amenities that allow it to compete with many of the first class options in the airport , mainly those belonging to Cathay Pacific.
In this post, we’ll look at how to access the Centurion Lounge Hong Kong, what amenities you can expect, tips and tricks for making the most of your visit, and sample menus of the food and drink you’ll be able to experience during your stay.
As the name suggests, the Centurion Lounge Hong Kong belongs to the American Express Centurion Lounge network, where you’ll need either The Platinum Card ® from American Express , The Business Platinum Card ® from American Express , Centurion ® Card from American Express , Delta SkyMiles ® Reserve American Express Card (when you book your Delta flight with your Delta Reserve card), or Delta SkyMiles ® Reserve Business American Express Card (when you book your Delta flight with your Delta Reserve Business card) to enter.
Hot Tip: Check to see if you’re eligible for a welcome bonus offer of up to 125k (or 150k) points with the Amex Platinum. The current public offer is 80,000 points. (This targeted offer was independently researched and may not be available to all applicants.)
Your credit card can be issued in any country (for example, you can use the Hong Kong version of the Amex Platinum card), and can also be a co-branded version (one where Amex partners with another brand for additional benefits), such as the American Express Platinum Card for Schwab ® .
There are a few rules you’ll need to abide by, however, since this is a Centurion Lounge:
- Day of departure flights only — You’re only allowed to enter the Centurion Lounge on the day of your flight, and you won’t receive access if you’re arriving from a flight, except for connections.
- No more than 3 hours before your flight — To prevent overcrowding, American Express has revised their lounge access policy to restrict entry on flights that are more than 3 hours before departure. You’ll need to wait until it is 3 hours before departure to be let in unless you have a connecting flight, in which case you can come in as soon as you land.
Lounge Guest Policy
- Amex Platinum card and Amex Business Platinum cardmembers may enter with up to 2 complimentary guests if they have spent $75,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year. Otherwise, a guest day pass can be purchased for $50 per adult or $30 per child between the ages of 2 and 17.
- Centurion cardmembers may enter with up to 2 guests or immediate family (spouse or domestic partner, and children under 18) at no additional charge.
- Delta Reserve cardholders may bring up to 2 guests at a per-visit rate of $50 per person, per location.
- Amex Platinum card, Amex Business Platinum card, and Centurion cardmembers may purchase a day pass for any additional guests for $50.
The lounge is located in Terminal 1, which is host to several airlines, including Hong Kong’s own Cathay Pacific. There’s an escalator by gate 60 you’ll take up to level 7 where you’re greeted by a wall with the blue American Express logo. On this level, there is also a United Club and a Plaza Premium Priority Pass lounge , for reference.
The lounge is open from 3 p.m. through 12:30 a.m., covering the vast majority of flight departures and connections.
As you walk through the blue glass, you’ll see the familiar greenery wall present in most Centurion Lounges. Lounge attendants will greet you and ask for your Amex Platinum card or Centurion card, your boarding pass, and identification.
They’ll check to be sure you’re credentialed to enter, and if you are, you’ll be given the Wi-Fi password and a brief overview of the facilities. All of the rooms and amenities are located down a long corridor once you pass the registration desk.
According to American Express, the Centurion Lounge at Hong Kong airport features:
- Computer bar
- Locally-inspired cuisine
- High-speed Wi-Fi
- Magazines and newspapers
- Member service desk
- Premium bar
- Print, fax, and copy services
- Shower suites
- Dedicated work area
The lounge is approximately 8,000 feet in size, making it feel relatively small when compared to other Centurion Lounge locations.
The Centurion Lounge Hong Kong has 2 meeting rooms and 1 phone room. One of the meeting rooms is larger than the other, with seating for up to 10 around a conference table. The room is equipped with a flat-screen television on the wall where you can share presentations or watch television.
The smaller meeting room simply has a small conference table with seating up to 8, and the phone room is a quiet place where you can take a conference call or the like.
There is no charge to rent these rooms, and they’re first-come-first-served (or first-reserved).
Hot Tip: To reserve these meeting rooms, speak to the guest services staff upon entering the lounge. Some cardmembers have had luck having American Express directly reserve the meeting rooms through such services as the American Express Platinum concierge, though your experience may differ.
As you walk past the meeting rooms, there’s a bar area featuring 6 seats around the bar and then 4 tables just off to the side, with additional seating available nearby. The bar hosts several complimentary cocktails and drinks, and there are also some self-serve options depending on the time of day.
This lounge is on the smaller side, but it does have a fair amount of seating, mostly with clustered chairs around small coffee tables. There are some traditional dining tables, but most of what you’ll find is grouped together.
If you want some fabulous views of the airport and runways, there is a bar-like seating area with stools facing a series of large window panes — a perfect view for any AvGeek!
Hot Tip: The lounge isn’t great for those who are here on an extended stay who want a place to nap or sprawl out, so if you need a quiet place to catch some shut-eye, you may want to look at other lounge locations.
Food is available all day from 3 p.m. until 12 a.m., and everything is self-serve and free of charge.
For breakfast, you can anticipate dishes like:
- Scrambled eggs
- Chicken sausage, bacon, and sautéed vegetables
- Yogurt and fruit bar
- Dim sum basket
- Pancakes, maple syrup, mixed berry compute, whipped cream, and butter
- Chicken congee with condiments, shredded ginger, pickled turnips, and spring onion
For lunch and dinner you can expect dishes like:
- Leek and potato soup
- Pan-fried sole fillet with caper cream sauce
- Gnocchi with Pomodoro sauce
- Beef bourguignon with baby onion and mushrooms
- Baked broccoli and cauliflower with a Mornay sauce
- Kale Mediterranean and olive salad
- Wild rice and barley salad with almond and dried apricots
For dessert:
- Baked caramel mousse cake
If you’re checking out the bar, you’re in for a treat. Jim Meehan is American Express’ expert mixologist and has worked up some great cocktails. Jim has served as a bartender in some of the hottest restaurants and bars in New York City (like Gramercy Tavern and the Pegu Club) and opened PDT, a James Beard award-winning bar.
He’s even got his own bar-inspired consulting firm, Mixography, Inc., so you know he’s the man for the job to make you the perfect drink.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Blue Door which includes Johnny Walker Black Scotch Whisky, Myer’s Dark Rum, Benedictine and lemon juice
- Rickshaw which includes Ciroc Vodka, Canton Ginger Liqueur, lemon juice, Midori
- Gin Basil Collins which includes Botanist Gin, Kimono Yuzu soda, lemon juice, simple syrup
- Tea-quila Highball which includes chilled lemon verbena tea, Siete Leguas Blanco Tequila, agave syrup, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
- Soycar which includes Remy Martin V.S.O.P Cogna, lemon juice, Mandarin Napoleon, simple syrup, soy sauce
- Skyball , which includes East Imperial Tonic Water, Botanist Gin, and Talisker 10 Year Single Malt Scotch
- Boutineer , which includes Mt. Gay Black Barrel Rum, Cocchi Americano, Italicus, Rosolio di Bergamotto
- Bobby’s Fortune , which includes Bruichladdich Classic Whisky, Martini Sweet Vermouth, Benedictine, and Smiling Sesame Date
There are also several wines on offer, too, as of late 2019 (wine served 3 p.m. until 12 a.m.):
- Brut, G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge, NV, Champagne, France
- Cabernet Sauvignon, The Federalist Lodi, 2015, Sonoma, California
- Chardonnay, Terlato Family, 2014, Russian River, California
- Merlot, Grace Vineyard Tasya’s Reserve, 2011, Shanxi, China
- Moscato, Seven Daughters, 2016, California
- Pinot Grigio, Lunardi, 2016, Veneto, Italy
- Pinot Noir, Flor de Campo, 2014, Santa Barbara, California
- Prosecco, Riondo Spumante, NV, Veneto, Italy
- Prosecco, Riondo Spunmantel, NV, Veneto, Italy
- Rosé, Sanford Estate, 2016, Santa Rita Hills, California
- Sauvignon Blanc, Markham, 2016, Napa Valley, California
If you’re not an alcohol drinker, there’s a fridge with Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Fanta, Sprite, Pellegrino, Acqua Panna, tonic water, and ginger beer. In the same area is a coffee machine, dispensing traditional coffees, lattes, cappuccinos, and more.
Bottom Line All food and drink in the Centurion Lounge is complimentary.
The lounge features men’s and women’s restrooms, as well as 2 separate, private shower rooms. These shower rooms are equipped with a toilet, sink, and shower and feature complimentary soaps, shaving kits, and other accessories, as well as a bath mat, towel, and washcloth. These are replaced new after each visitor.
The showers are first-come-first-served, and to gain access, you need to reserve them at the front desk. During peak flight departure times, you may notice a wait for the showers, so it’s best to reserve early so you can guarantee yourself a spot.
The entire Centurion Lounge space features complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi throughout, perfect for you to work or download your favorite movie before leaving on a flight. You can get the password to the Wi-Fi at check-in or by visiting the guest services desk.
The lounge features several Mac computers you can use to browse the internet on, check emails, or print small documents. These computers and printers are free of charge to access.
The lounge has several international magazines and newspapers on offer, including several in different languages. You can take any of these with you to read on your journey.
If you need any document printed, faxed, or copied, you can see one of the hosts at the entry desk and they’d be happy to assist you in getting that done, or you can visit the self-service computer bar for any minor tasks. This is perfect for printing that last document before an important business meeting or signing a time-sensitive contract.
There is a special mini-lounge located within the Centurion Lounge Hong Kong reserved for Centurion cardholders.
American Express shares some details about what you’ll find in this private space:
“The private Centurion area will also feature an a la carte menu designed by Michelin star chef, Lau Yiu Fai of Yan Toh Heen at the InterContinental Hong Kong. Chef Lau’s menu will offer Cantonese dishes such as baked pork in puff pastry, crispy spring rolls with kimchi and pork, crispy fresh prawns with black truffles, braised wagyu beef cheek and turnip, barbecued pork with honey and steamed rice, and baked egg tartlettes with bird’s nest, among others.”
The American Express Centurion Lounge Hong Kong is a great retreat in this otherwise busy airport. An airline-specific lounge, such as one of Cathay Pacific’s, will generally have better food and amenities, but if those lounges are crowded or you don’t have access, the American Express Centurion Lounge is certainly one of your best bets.

In the more than 10 years of American Express operating Centurion Lounges, the travel card powerhouse has opened locations across the globe in destination cities like Los Angeles , New York, London, Hong Kong and Sydney.
Is the DCA Centurion Lounge open? Yes. This week, our nation’s capital gets its first location with the opening of the new Centurion Lounge at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C., proper.
Like the Centurion network’s other locations, this lounge is targeted toward AmEx’s premium cardholders and even includes features reserved for its most exclusive, invite-only card: The Centurion® Card , also dubbed the Centurion Black Card.
Getting to the Centurion Lounge at DCA
It’s giving: Living. Literally. (Photo by Steve Miller)
The lounge is located in Terminal 2. If you enter through the South Security Checkpoint, the lounge will be directly to the right once you pass security.
Guests are called into the lounge by a floor-to-ceiling living wall of greenery. Take the stairs or elevator up to the mezzanine level where you can check in at the lounge’s front desk.
Hours of operation
The Centurion Lounge at Ronald Reagan National Airport is open Sunday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturdays, the lounge still opens at 5 a.m., but closes early at 7 p.m.

How to get into the Centurion Lounge DCA
Centurion lounge access is among the simpler policies out there: you can get in if you hold the right American Express card.
In addition to those who hold the Centurion® Card from American Express or the American Express Corporate Platinum Card®, other AmEx cards that offer Centurion Lounge access, not surprisingly, carry steep annual fees. They include:
on American Express' website
Earn 80,000 Membership Rewards® Points after you spend $8,000 on eligible purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership. Terms Apply.
Earn 150,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $20,000 in eligible purchases on the Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership. Terms Apply.
Earn 100,000 Bonus Miles after you spend $6,000 in eligible purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership. Terms Apply.
Limited Time Offer: Earn 110,000 Bonus Miles after spending $12,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership. Offer Ends 10/23/24. Terms Apply.
For the Delta cards listed above, cardholders must be traveling on a same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight to get lounge access.

The DCA Centurion Lounge takes design cues from the district's architectural legacy, with features that capture the city’s air of dignified sophistication.
The entry area’s gallery features pieces from local artists commissioned specifically for the lounge, and photos of famous American musicians and historical figures dot the walls throughout main seating areas.
What Henry Rollins, former frontman of seminal punk band Black Flag, would think about being featured on a card issuer’s luxury lounge wall is up for debate. But the black and white shots of American cultural icons certainly fit the vibe.
In the main dining area, a sculpture installation suspended from the ceiling features more than 260 lightless lanterns arranged in a pattern reminiscent of the nearby Potomac River. The “lanterns” are modeled after the actual markers used to delineate the boundaries of Washington, D.C., upon its founding in 1791.
And while these lanterns don't shine, the lounge gets plenty of sunlight, with large, nearly floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides. On the entrance side of the lounge, guests get a view of the runway and the Delta Sky Club lounge across the terminal.
Other views aren’t quite as scenic, but the abundant natural light is a big perk.

The Centurion Lounge at DCA comes in at just under 12,000 square feet, which is around the same size as other Centurion Lounges at airports like New York-John F. Kennedy , but roughly half the size of Chase’s 21,800 square-foot lounge at New York-LaGuardia that opened in January 2024.
With new lounges from Chase , American Express and Capital One opening every few months, it’s becoming a close race to impress cardholders.
Capacity at the DCA Centurion Lounge is capped at 302 people.
Seating areas and workspaces
The first space guests come upon at the top of the entrance stairs is the in-lounge art gallery. (Photo by Steve Miller)
Just past the check-in desk is the lounge’s self-styled art gallery and sitting room, where pieces from local artists are hung below brass lighting fixtures.
The picture frame wall molding and muted upholstery of the couches and chairs in this space set the stage for the stately design touches found throughout the lounge.
High-backed chairs offer a comfortable and relatively private spot to sit in the main seating area. (Photo by Steve Miller)
Once inside, the lounge’s seating areas wrap around the central dining space. Seating is ample, with couches, tables and armchairs scattered throughout the area. There’s also a printer available for use. Built-in TVs and a departures board are nestled among books and knick-knacks related to Washington, D.C., and air travel.
The lounge’s multipurpose, meeting and phone rooms offer a more private space if needed. (Photo by Steve Miller)
In addition to general seating, a multipurpose room, meeting room and phone room are all available on a first-come-first-served basis.

If you’re looking to get some business taken care of while enjoying your respite from the airport crowds, you’ll have no issues keeping your devices charged.
Power outlets can be found all throughout the lounge, whether in tables or on the floors and walls.
Private space for Centurion® Card members
Centurion® Cardmembers get a private seating space with its own beverage station. (Photo by Steve Miller)
Beyond the main seating area, Centurion® Card members can escape to a special section reserved for those who carry this exclusive card. With its own beverage station and easy access to the dining space, cardholders can further insulate themselves from the hubbub of airport activity.

Bathrooms and shower
The lounge offers just one set of bathrooms (in addition to the shower suite), with a men’s and a women’s room, situated not too far from the dining space along a wall in the main sitting area.
Each includes several stalls and sinks for use. The tiling, backlit mirrors and individual sink stations elevate the bathroom to match the rest of the lounge.
The shower suite gives guests a chance to wash up on a long layover, just be quick about it — the limit for most guests is 15 minutes. (Photo by Steve Miller)
The lounge has a shower that is available for reservation upon arrival. The shower suite is nestled to the right of and around the corner from the check-in desk. While not huge, the shower suite is spacious enough and includes a toilet and sink for use as well.
Most AmEx cardholders can reserve the shower for 15 minutes at a time, but Centurion® Card members can book a 30-minute block to take a nice, leisurely rinse.

Food and drink
The lounge has linked up with not one, not two, but three noteworthy chefs representing the culinary scenes in Miami, San Francisco and Philadelphia to develop dishes that will please travelers looking for a lighter alternative to typical airport fare.
The chefs include Michelle Bernstein and Michael Solomonov, two James Beard Award winners, and Ravi Kapur, the chef behind a James Beard Best New Restaurant nominee.
Featured chef selections come self-serve at the DCA lounge, with plenty to peruse from appetizers through desserts. (Photo by Steve Miller)
Food is served buffet-style in the lounge’s central dining area.
Chef Michelle Bernstein — known for her work at Café La Trova and a long run of other beloved restaurants in Miami — brings contemporary Latin flavor to the menu with dishes like chimichurri grilled chicken. Michael Solomonov, the force behind Philadelphia restaurants Zahav and Laser Wolf, adds his expertise in Israeli fare, offering contributions like shabazi spiced salmon with pomegranate BBQ sauce and carrot and saffron soup.
Chef Ravi Kapur of San Francisco’s Liholiho Yacht Club rounds out the menu with contributions showcasing his take on Hawaiian cuisine, like tamari-honey glazed tofu and pineapple and grilled ginger-lemongrass asparagus with charred vine tomato.
Along with signature dishes from the featured chefs, guests can sample a selection of greens and salad fixings, soups, desserts, and other treats, like a blackberry agave energy shooter.
Thirsty guests can sample a variety of beverages from the lounge’s bar, which features a curated menu of signature drinks. (Photo courtesy of American Express)
Guests can belly up to the bar beneath the glow of pendant lights and enjoy a menu of wine, cocktails and beer.
Try the Haku Hanami for a light and refreshing riff on the classic vodka martini. (Photo by Steve Miller)
The cocktail menu features a curated roster of drinks like the Haku Hanami, a mellow take on a vodka martini that features delicate notes of Washington, D.C.’s, famous cherry blossoms, as if blown in on the breeze.
Other menu highlights include the NON Apertivo, a sparkling, alcohol-free number that has the bitter kick of a Campari cocktail without the booze.
In honor of the 40th anniversary of The Platinum Card® from American Express , the bar also offers the Platinum 1984, a white chocolate and tequila cocktail with “a stripe of spice that alludes to swiping your card,” according AmEx’s promotional material.
The bar’s wine list features bottles from nearby Virginia vineyards alongside international selections from Italy, France, and New Zealand. Beers include lagers, IPAs and more available on tap and in cans and bottles.
Beverage stations
Guests looking for something simple to sip can top off their coffee or tea at one of the lounge’s beverage stations. (Photo by Steve Miller)
The lounge features three beverage stations, one of which is only available to Centurion® Card guests in their reserved cardholder section.
The other stations can be found in the dining area and the main lounge seating area and offer guests a selection of coffee, express drinks, teas and other refreshments.

Cool but crowded: A review of the American Express Centurion Lounge Hong Kong
Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .
Amex opened its first international Centurion Lounge just over two years ago in Hong Kong, which made a lot of sense given how many premium cardholders live -- and travel through -- the city. Not only is the Hong Kong lounge the issuer's first international Centurion Lounge , it's also the only one to feature an entirely separate area for Centurion cardholders.
Although I'm not a Centurion cardholder (we can't all be Brian Kelly ), I was able to check out the rest of the Lounge on a recent trip through Hong Kong.
The Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong (HKG) is in Terminal 1, the airport's main terminal. Terminal 1 at HKG is shaped like a "Y," and the lounge is just in the center of that "Y."
The lounge is on the upper level of the departures floor near Gate 60. You need to take an elevator or escalator to access Level 7 though there's plenty of signage to get you there.
Sign up for TPG's daily email newsletter for travel tips delivered directly to your inbox!
If you're originating in Hong Kong, you exit security and passport control near gates 1 and 5. While you could walk all the way to Gate 60, there's also an Automated People Mover that stops at gates 40 to 80.
If you take the APM, make sure to get out at this stop. If your flight is departing from a gate numbered 40 or below, you need to retrace your steps back to your gate. The APM only operates in one direction, so you need to walk from there to your gate.
The lounge is open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Customers can access a Centurion Lounge by flashing The Platinum Card® from American Express ($695 annual fee. See rates & fees), The Business Platinum Card® from American Express or The Centurion® Card . Visitors are entitled to bring two guests (or immediate family, if you carry a Centurion card), and lap infants don't count against the two-guest allotment.
The information for the Centurion Card card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Related: Which card is right for you? Amex Platinum vs. Amex Business Platinum
Cardholders with other flavors of the Platinum Card , such as the Schwab, Ameriprise or international versions, also have access. Authorized users with a Centurion or Platinum Card also have access — you can add up to three authorized users to the personal Platinum Card for a total of $175 per year (see rates and fees) — but those who have the Platinum's complimentary additional Gold Card don't have access.
Note that Platinum cardholders can only access Centurion lounges up to three hours before a departing flight. Platinum members also get access when connecting through the airport, but won't get access without an onward boarding pass.
Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card cardholders will receive complimentary access to the Centurion Lounge when flying Delta with a ticket purchased on any American Express card issued in the U.S. You'll be able to bring up to two guests for a fee of $50 each. But, Delta doesn't fly to Hong Kong , so you won't be able to use the Amex Delta Reserve to enter the Hong Kong lounge.
The Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong is L-shaped, with a long corridor extending beyond the entrance before making a sharp turn and getting into the main relaxation area.
The design will be familiar to anyone who's visited a Centurion Lounge before, as you'll find artwork and color schemes similar to that in the other Centurion lounges.
The lounge is open-air, affording great airport views and adding to the space's volume.
Along the narrow entryway corridor is the boardroom with a large table, a meeting room with a smaller four-top table, and an even smaller phone room.
These proved to be great places to sit when the main area got overcrowded.
The centerpiece of the main area is the expansive bar. There were a few barstools here, but this wouldn't be a great place to sit, since it's also where the overflow buffet items are displayed.
Flanking the bar on either side are drink and snack towers and nonalcoholic drinks.
Behind the bar are the restrooms and shower.
The main sitting area is just in front of the bar. There are various two-person dining tables here, as well as relaxation chairs lower to the ground.
Aside from the table seating, there's a small nook with a counter area with seating for about 10 people.
Throughout my stay, the lounge got really crowded. So crowded, in fact, that the front desk opened up a waitlist for entry. Just take a look at the pictures I took when the lounge opened at 5:30 a.m. above compared to what it looked like at 8:30 a.m.
However, there was one peaceful area that I didn't have access to, the dedicated space for Centurion cardholders . Black card holders had a separate space behind the behind a sliding black door leading to more seating and a la carte dining.
There wasn't much in the way of amenities. About half the tables had access to power and USB ports, and those were the tables to fill up first.
There was only one shower, and I'd heard that the wait can often exceed an hour. If you're looking to shower, make sure to place your name on the waitlist once you enter.
The shower room itself was quite nice, with L'Occitane bath amenities.
Aside from the shower room, the lounge had nicer bathrooms than the airport terminal.
The Wi-Fi signal extended throughout the space, and the network provided above-average speeds of 64 Mbps download and 26 Mbps upload.
The only other amenity was the single public-use computer and printer in the boardroom.
Food and beverage
Aside from the large bar, there was a pretty extensive breakfast buffet the morning I visited. There wasn't any a la carte dining, but everything on the buffet was quite fresh.
Breakfast was served from 5:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., the buffet transitioned to all-day cuisine until closing.
The hot foods included hard boiled eggs, waffles, Asian noodles, sausages, potatoes, scrambled eggs, pork patties and other Asian specialities like dried oysters and shrimp dumplings.
In addition to the hot food, there was also a salad bar with various fruits and vegetables.
Right next to the salad bar was a small refrigerated section with yogurt and Swiss muesli.
My favorite from the buffet was the breakfast breads section, and particularly the miniature donuts. I'm a sucker for things with sprinkles, so these really hit the spot.
While the food was definitely above average for a business-class lounge, the star of the show was the alcohol selection curated by mixologist Jim Meehan from New York's Please Don't Tell.
The extensive wine and cocktail menu made it really easy to forget how overcrowded the lounge was. I enjoyed perusing the cocktail menu, but there was a bartender on hand ready to whip up your favorite concoction.
There were plenty of Coke products, juices and a Melitta coffee machine.
Although it got crowded, the roaming servers did a phenomenal job of removing used dishes and cutlery.
Overall impression
Though the Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong may be Amex's first international outpost, the design and space is reminiscent of the eight other locations across America. And that's a good thing. A Centurion Lounge is well-appointed, and Hong Kong is no exception.
The food and beverages were delicious, though it got packed. Overall, the Centurion Lounge is a great option for travelers passing through Hong Kong. It's leagues better than the Priority Pass lounges , but if you have access, the Cathay Pacific lounges are definitely a step up from this one.

Review: AMEX Centurion Lounge Hong Kong
The Centurion Lounge offers up a good quality spread of food and drinks, though the crowds are an ever-present feature.
During my extended layover in Hong Kong, I managed to pay a visit to the American Express Centurion Lounge, AMEX’s first international Centurion Lounge.
This facility opened in October 2017, covering an 8,000 sq ft space that used to be occupied by Virgin Atlantic. It is, by most accounts, probably the best credit card lounge in the whole airport, though the newer Chase Sapphire Lounge may have something to say about that.
tl;dr: Centurion Lounge Hong Kong
The Centurion Lounge offers up a good quality spread of food and drinks, though the crowds are an ever-present feature.
Opening Hours & Access
The AMEX Centurion Lounge is located in Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1, near Gate 60.
Opening hours are 7 a.m to 12 a.m daily , and access is available to the following cardholders (both principal and supplementary):
- AMEX Centurion (+2 guests)
- AMEX Platinum Charge (+2 guests)
Do note that the above entitlements are for Singapore-issued cards . The entitlements for your card may differ depending on country.
Due to overcrowding issues, The Centurion Lounge will not admit Platinum cardholders more than three hours before the departure time on their boarding pass.
This restriction does not apply to cardholders with a confirmed connecting flight. For example, if you arrive in HKG at 12 p.m with a connecting flight at 8 p.m, you may visit The Centurion Lounge immediately upon landing by presenting your arriving and departing boarding pass.
Centurion Lounge Hong Kong: Overview
The best way to know you’ve found The Centurion Lounge is to look for the queue. While AMEX paints a picture of luxury and exclusivity, the reality is that it’s not that hard to get a Platinum Card these days.
When I arrived at opening time, there was a good-sized crowd waiting to get in. About five minutes before opening, a staff member came out to organise the queue into two lines: Centurions, and Platinums. Centurions were let in first, understandably, after which the Platinum queue was processed.
At the counter, the friendly staff swiped my Platinum card, informed me of the Wi-Fi password, and sent me on my way.
Before you get to the lounge proper, you’ll walk down an open-air corridor and pass a boardroom, a meeting room and a phone room. These have desktop computers and printing facilities, but often become an overflow area for when the main dining area (inevitably) gets too crowded.
Just before you turn the corner into the lounge, you’ll see a portrait of a dog, which was the first logo of American Express when it started in 1850. You might not know that American Express started life as a delivery company- hence the “express”. The watchdog logo was meant to create confidence in the company’s trust, security and vigilance, but as far as I know, the dog doesn’t actually have a name.
While I try as hard as I can to get into lounges at opening time so I can snap “clean” photos without other passengers in them, it was almost impossible here. This is a lounge that never really has a quiet period, so apologies in advance for the photos.
The Centurion Lounge Hong Kong has various types of seating arrangements and furniture, though none of them are what I’d call particularly ergonomic. This isn’t the most comfortable place to open up a laptop and power through several hours of work, and maybe that’s intentional.
The bar is meant to be the centrepiece of the lounge, but you can’t actually pull up a seat- at least not during breakfast hours, where space is needed for the toaster and additional breakfast items.
On the far end of the lounge is the buffet area.
Here’s also where you’ll find the entrance to a private area for Centurion cardholders, which has dedicated seating and table service with a specially curated menu.
“The private Centurion area will also feature an a la carte menu designed by Michelin star chef, Lau Yiu Fai of Yan Toh Heen at the InterContinental Hong Kong. Chef Lau’s menu will offer Cantonese dishes such as baked pork in puff pastry, crispy spring rolls with kimchi and pork, crispy fresh prawns with black truffles, braised wagyu beef cheek and turnip, barbecued pork with honey and steamed rice, and baked egg tartlettes with bird’s nest, among others.” -AMEX
I wasn’t able to visit this area, obviously, but a reader has kindly contributed the following photos.
Centurion Lounge Hong Kong: Food & Beverage
Breakfast was served during the window where I visited the Centurion Lounge.
Cold food options included fruit salad, potato salad, fresh fruit and Swiss muesli.
The hot food selection had an assortment of breakfast items, like blistered cherry tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, buttered corn, pork bacon and sausage, dim sum, hash browns and congee.
At the bar were some additional options like bread, pastries, and a honeycomb. Cheese, crackers, sandwiches and breakfast cereals were also available.
By the way, there’s also an ice cream fridge at the bar with Movenpick, but this only gets unlocked after 11.30 a.m daily! Strange, they’ll let you have a cocktail in the morning, but not ice cream…
This being a Centurion Lounge, you can expect an impressive wine list, with three whites, three reds, a rose and three sparklings to choose from. GH Mumm Champagne is one of the options.
🇮🇹 Casteltorre Pinot Grigio 2022 | White |
🇫🇷 Grand Bellot Sauvignon Blanc 2022 | White |
🇺🇸 Trinity Oaks Chardonnay 2020 | White |
🇫🇷 Le Petit Caboche Rogue Rose 2022 | Rose |
🇫🇷 Cave de Lugny Pinot Noir 2021 | Red |
🇿🇦 Glenelly Glass Collection Merlot 2019 | Red |
🇦🇺 Richland Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 | Red |
🇫🇷 GH Mumm Cordon Rouge NV | Champagne |
🇮🇹 Pitars Prosecco NV | Sparkling |
🇮🇹 Volpi Moscato Piemonte Moscato DOC | Sparkling |
The cocktails list is also enticing, created by James Beard awardee Jim Meehan. Cocktails are served all day long, and I’d highly recommend the Rickshaw or Gin Basil Collins.
The bartenders double up as baristas in the morning, so a decent coffee is at hand. In the fridge are the usual assortment of canned drinks and mixers.
Power & Productivity
The Centurion Lounge’s Wi-Fi network clocked in at 32 Mbps down and 26 Mbps up.
Power outlets weren’t as plentiful as I would have liked. They were mostly located at the communal marble high table running along the edge of the lounge, and while they had USB-A ports, the power outlets only accepted Type G plugs.
It’s fine for those of us from Singapore, but you’d really think a lounge in an international airport would go with universal sockets.
Showers & Toilets
The Centurion Lounge has men’s and women’s restrooms, as well as two separate private shower rooms. You’ll need to reserve them at the front desk, so don’t delay, especially during peak hours. Wall-mounted L’Occitaine bath amenities are provided.
The Centurion Lounge Hong Kong is, in and of itself, a beautifully-designed and welcoming space with good food and an even better cocktail list.
But what makes it hard to recommend are the crowds. This is a place that fills up quickly and stays full most of the day, and if your flight is around a peak period, you might be better off visiting the Chase Sapphire Lounge (just a short walk away) with your Priority Pass instead.

One of the great many perks of the American Express Platinum card ( any variation ) is access to its globally growing Centurion lounge collection. The Hong Kong outpost has been on my list to visit for quite a while, and despite two prior trips through the airport, I hadn’t carved out the time to give it a gander. That all changed this last time through as we didn’t have access to Cathay’s top notch lounges, and had some extra time to kill between flights.

The Hong Kong Centurion lounge in terminal 1, upstairs, near gate 60 and you can take an elevator or an escalator to its entrance.
First Impression:
After checking in you’ll walk down a hallway with a work center and a conference room.
Once you round the corner you’ll see the main lounge. One thing I immediately noticed that was different from almost every other Centurion lounge I’ve visited was how relatively uncrowded it was. We were there around 730 or 8pm – so pretty peak times and it wasn’t an absolute madhouse. Yes, it’s busy, but if you compare it to what Miami or SFO looks like at this time…
Food and bar options:
Centurion lounges always have an impressive looking bar, and Hong Kong is no different offering one that is aesthetically pleasing as well curated drink options by Jim Meehan of Mandarin Oriental fame.
At the very back of the lounge are the food options. Typical buffet style that you’ll see at other Centurion lounges – seating is adjacent to the the dining area.
The Amex Centurion Lounge Hong Kong is a great addition to the overall portfolio of Centurion offerings. Having just been to Club Autus it was a nice comparison to make head to head. I’d give the Centurion lounge the nod on this one. Incredible bar with interesting drinks choices, fast wifi, and fresh and delicious looking food.
