Makruzz has Two decks with passenger capacity of 280. It presents three classes for its guests – 208 seats in Premium, 64 Seats in Deluxe and 8 Seats in Royal. For the comfort of the passengers the vessel is fully air conditioned. It can attain maximum speed of 32 Nauticle miles but will be cruised at approximately 22-24 nauticle miles and is expected to cover the distance between Port Blair and Havelock Island in 90 Minutes

ABOUT SAFETY

Makruzz meets the latest global standardds of safety in the terms of ‘Life Saving’ ‘Fire Fighting’ ‘Navigational” and ‘Communication’ systems. Andaman Tourism Opens

Andaman Tourism Opens: The Andaman & Nicobar administration has announced that all tourist spots in the South Andaman district will be opened for tourism activities with immediate effect 8 Feb 2022.

What is the advisory to travel to North & Middle Andaman District?

The tourists are allowed to visit Baratang/North & Middle Andaman on production of double dose covid certificate/ All other passengers viz. unvaccinated and partially vaccinated passengers (those who have taken only 1S1 dose of COVID vaccine) shall have to produce RT-PCR negative test report

• All asymptomatic fully vaccinated persons coming to these islands from mainland are  exempted  from the requirement of carrying RT-PCR negative test report,irrespective of the type of vaccine received and country of origin. Such fullyvaccinated individuals shall produce the final vaccination certificate at the origin airport ,  sea port in the mainland and at Port Blair Airport / sea port.
• Alt asymptomatic children below 5 years of age are exempted from carrying RT-PCR negative test report and further RT-PCR testing at Port Blair Airport.
• All other passengers viz. unvaccinated and partially vaccinated passengers (those who have taken only 1S1 dose of COVID vaccine) shall have to produce RT-PCR negative test report to travel to Port Blair from the mainland, as is the practice now. Such an RT-PCR test should have been taken within 48 hours prior to commencement of journey from the origin airport connecting Port Blair. Such passengers will also have to undergo additional RT-PCR test on arrival at Port Blair. Such passengers shall remain in self-quarantine till the arrival of the test report.
• If a passenger on arrival is tested positive then, the prescribed quarantine protocol is to be followed.
• All Airlines shall ensure strict compliance of this order and observance of COVID Appropriate Behaviour. Any non-compliance shall invite action under Disaster Management Act and other applicable laws. 

General Guidelines defined for traveling to Andaman Islands during COVID :

• The Tourism Activities are permitted only in South Andaman & North & Middle Andaman District except Nicobar District.
• Persons above 65 years of age, persons with home co-morbidities, pregnant women and children below the age of 10 years advised not to travel for tourism purposes.
• Tourists/Visitors who are at higher risk due to some medical history are advised to take extra precautions.
• Tourists/visitors shall minimize contact with other staff and visitors as far as possible and zero contact policy should be followed at all tourist destinations.
• All tourists/visitors shall be briefed by the hotel concerned about do’s & don’ts to be mandatorily followed during their stay and movements.
• While travelling tourists/visitors should wear a face mask and carry their own sanitizer and wet wipes for personal use.
• At all tourist destinations, staff must wear face masks and wash/sanitize hands regularly while performing their duties.
• Arogya Setu App shall be mandatory for all incoming tourists/visitors.
• Respiratory etiquettes to be strictly followed. This involves strict practice of covering one’s mouth and nose while coughing/sneezing with a tissue handkerchief/flexed elbow and disposing off used tissues properly after use.
• The tourists/visitors on arrival at Port Blair airport have to undergo mandatory Covid-19 screening with RTPCR test free of cost. Thereafter the tourists/ visitors are allowed to move to their respective hotels. However, they will have to be under quarantine at Port Blair in their hotel rooms until the result of RTPCR tests are received. In case of RTPCR positive test results, the tourists/visitors shall remain in institutional quarantine in hotels notified by the Hoteliers Association in consent with the A&%N Administration, on rate as specified or to the designated hospital/ Covid 19 care centre on case to case basis.

What are the guidelines for testing for tourists coming to Andaman after August 03 2021?

On arrival at Port Blair : 1. The tourists need to carry COVID-19 negative test report from mainland based 1CMR approved lab using Reverse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR). However, the sample for RTPCR test should have been taken within 48 hours prior to starting the journey from the origin station. (For e.g. if the tourist takes a flight from Delhi at 0600 hrs. on 1st September, 2021, the sample for RTPCR test should have been taken not before 0600 hrs. on 30th August, 2021). 2. The tourists/visitors on arrival at Port Blair airport have to undergo mandatory Covid-19 screening with RTPCR test free of cost. Thereafter the tourists/visitors are allowed to move to their respective hotels. However, they will have to be under quarantine at Port Blair in their hotel rooms until the result of RTPCR tests are received. In case of RTPCR positive test results, the tourists/visitors shall remain in institutional quarantine in hotels notified by the Hoteliers Association in consent with the A&N Administration, on rates as specified or to the designated hospital/ Covid-19 care centre on case-to-case basis.

3. Tourists may also have to undergo random Rapid Antigen Test conducted from time to time on payment basis as prescribed by A8N Administration.

What if the tourists test positive after arriving at the Andaman Islands?

If the tourists tests positive during their stay in the Islands, he/she will need to undergo institutional isolation as per existing health protocols. The cost of such isolation for govt. facility will be paid by the tourists as fixed by the administration from time to time. If the patient wants to stay at hotels, he/she can stay in the hotels if all the conditions below are met: a) Patients are not symptomatic and not more than 60 years old. b) Request/ undertaking is made by patient in writing. c)lf allowed by doctors. Hotels will make necessary arrangements to designate a part of their rooms for institutional isolation for this purpose.

• Regular flights to Port Blair (the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands) are operational now.
• There are direct flights from Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Delhi.
• Public transports like cabs, taxis, and bus services are also functional.

Travellers should carefully follow social distancing norms and wear masks as well. Also, before making any booking, they should refer to the latest travel news on the government website of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Makruzz is one of the oldest and most reputed ferry companies in Andamans. The Makruzz 1 started operating in 2009 and is still functional in Andamans along with the cruises of different brands. Over the years Makruzz Cruises have progressed and are doing extremely well in transferring people from one island to another with great comfort and services. 

The Makruzz family has a fleet of 3 cruises- Makruzz 1, Makruzz Gold, and Makruzz Pearl. Each of the cruises gives you a different experience in terms of the interiors, services, speed, comfort, and seating but the main goal is to provide a smooth trip for its passengers. 

Makruzz 1 is the first cruise introduced by the M.V. Makruzz Company. It is a closed deck cruise with comfortable seating and good service. It is a high-speed catamaran and is first of its kind in Andamans.  The seating capacity is about 250 seats divided into 3 categories – Economy, Deluxe, and Luxury/Royal. Each category has different experiences to offer the passengers in terms of seating space, seats, services, and hospitality. The view gets better at each deck and that one of the major reasons for passengers to opt for the higher categories. 

The cruise is fully air-conditioned and the seats are comfortable with adequate legroom space. Seating arrangement differs in each category and a huge transparent glass runs through the entire cruise to provide the customers with views of the sea.  The cruise has televisions, restrooms, and an in-board pantry. A music system is available for entertainment purposes. The restrooms are clean and comfortable. The pantry is well stocked with snacks and beverages. 

Makruzz 1 sails from Port Blair-Havelock-Neil-Port Blair. It departs from Haddo Wharf Jetty. The journey takes about 90 minutes from Port Blair to the destination on a one-way trip. 

Makruzz has the option of online & advance booking of ferry tickets but the only drawback is that it does not allow you to choose the seats as per your preference. It follows the first-come-first-serve-basis of seating and allots seats according to the booking patterns.  We recommend you to choose Makruzz 1 for at least one trip to experience riding on the first-ever private cruise that sailed in Andamans.

Port‌ Blair to Havelock Island Ferry & Cruise

To get to Havelock Island from Port Blair , you have to catch the ferry from Port Blair Harbor (called Phoenix Bay Jetty). There are two departures at 0600 hrs and 1100 hrs. Cruises take 2 hours and the Govt ferry takes 3 hours to reach Havelock. Ferries going via Neil Island take an extra 1 hour.

The Takeaway:

• The only way to commute between Port Blair and Havelock Island in 2020 is via Ferry and Cruise.
• Sea Planes and Helicopters have been discontinued since 2018.
• Both Govt and private ferries operate between the two islands.
• Govt. Ferries are cheaper but take 1 extra hour to reach Havelock.
• Govt. Ferries cannot be booked online, and the first preference is given to the locals.
• Private ferries are faster, more convenient, easy to book, and mostly preferred by tourists.

The Details:

• Port Blair and Havelock Island are separated by sea and therefore the only way to reach there is by a ferry. Ferry services are a fast and convenient way to travel as the journey is short and usually takes 2-3 hours.
• Helicopters and seaplanes from Port Blair to Havelock were operational in the past but have been discontinued since 2018. The only operational Helicopter on this route in 2020 is “Pawan Hans”, which used for medical emergencies and transporting high-profile officials.
• There are currently 2 types of ferries operating between the islands: Government Ferries and Private Ferries.
• Advance booking can only be done for private ferries while govt ferries have to be booked by visiting the DSS‌ office in the phoenix bay jetty and standing in the queue. The tickets are available 2 days before the departure date.

Choosing the right ferry operator:

• Currently, there are 4 private ferries operating on the Port Blair - Havelock route: Makruzz, Green Ocean, Sea Link, and ITT‌ Majestic along with a Government ferry.
• ITT‌ Majestic is the fastest ferry service which reaches Havelock‌ Island in 1 Hour 30 Minutes, closely followed by Makruzz with 1 Hour 45 Minutes. Green Ocean and Sea link both take 2 - 2.5 Hours to reach Havelock from Port Blair.
• In terms of cost, Govt ferries are the most budget-friendly, followed by ITT‌ Majestic who charges ++, and Green Ocean that charges ++. Sea Link has a moderate price and Makruzz is the most costly among the five.
• In terms of service and comfort, Makruzz has the best options; for a more comfortable you can opt for Royal Class which allows you to have a separate cabin area, shared by 8 people. ITT‌ Majestic comes next in terms of service and comfort, followed by Green Ocean and Sea Link. Govt ferries are the least comfortable among the three.

Government Ferries for Port Blair to Neil Island:

• Government ferries operate daily between Port Blair and Havelock Island, taking ++ hours to reach Havelock Jetty.
• These ferries are run by DSS and is mostly focused towards islanders and local as a standard mode of transportation. The tickets are mostly reserved for locals, and tourists are deferred from booking them.
• There is no online portal where you can book govt ferry tickets, the only way to book is to visit the DSS‌ office located at the Phoenix Bay Jetty and standing in the queue. Tickets are made available 2 days before the departure and tickets run out pretty fast.

Booking procedure for Ferries:

For private ferries:.

• Select the route and travel dates.
• Select the seating class and check the availability.
• Fill the form and confirm the payment.
• We will send you a confirmation via email.
• You can call us anytime for support and information.

For Government Ferry:

• Visit the DSS‌ office located on the right side of the Phoenix Bay Jetty gate.
• The counter opens from 9 AM-12 PM and 2 PM-5 PM every day, except Sundays.
• Stand in line along with locals with your ID‌ proof and Passport (if foreigner), and get the form for the ticket.
• Fill the form and submit it along with the copy of‌ ID‌ proof and get the tickets.
• Wait for the confirmation and keep the tickets for the departure date.

How to get to the Ferry Terminal:

• The ferry for Havelock leaves from Port Blair harbor called the Phoenix Bay Jetty, which is located at Phoenix Bay, near Aberdeen Bazaar.
• It is advised to use a map for directions if you are going there on your own.  Else you directly hire an auto-rickshaw, who will take you to the gate.
• Once past the gate, you will have to walk 50 meters and move to the right to find the ticketing office.
• Moving straight will take you to the ferry terminal and landing area.

Wheelchair Access: The walking area is wide and smooth, making it Wheelchair/ ADA accessible. Help and provisions are provided during boarding of the ferry.

Stroller Entrance / Access: The path from the gate to the ferry landing is accessible for strollers as well.

Bike Entrance / Access: The path/ walking area is accessible via bike and scooter. A safe parking area is provided at the Phoenix Bay Jetty.

Honestly I was bit jittery as usually I go my own way while arranging trips for self. That chap made my comfortable. Very professional. Then I interacted with their main person Mr. Murali. He settled my nerves. Very very articulate and committed to delivering whatever promised. Man of integrity. Understands his customer very well. Then came their tour manager Krishna. He is some guy very gentle humble in his dealings. Honoured committments by making arrangements for my other wishlist sight seeing. Very quick turn around for any issues whenever I called them. Then came cab drivers. Starting with Munna fantastic guy made my journey to Baratang really comfortable very knowledgable and having good etiquettes. Would give him rating of 5 out of 5. Havelock driver was Paritosh. He was also good. Would give him 4 out of 5. Then came Mr. Das in Neil island. He is some chap. My little one has become fan of him with the way he used to greet us. "Main aapka das. Koi problem apne das ko yaad kijiye.". It was a short but memorable stint. Would give him 5 out of 5. Now come stay arrangements. Port blair " SL INTERNATIONAL " Hotel was a pathetic experience. I conveyed this to Mr. Murali and he immediately acted on last day and interacted with them. I am sure Murali ji would like to remove this hotel from their tour packages. Shared my experience. Many other customer would have same one. On ist day when we were supposed to have our breakfast they refused then Krishna and Murali had to intervene. On last day 3 room had to be changed every room had issues. Final room given had no AC working. Then complimentary milk sachets they have provided were expired. Will share screen grabs. On last day when we asked them breakfast from menu. They refused saying it has to be mandatorily taken as per cost of full breakfast package which was quite bizzarre. At this I was furious. Got in touch with Murali and he intervened and requested me not to pay anything for breakfast which was so nice on his part. I am sure you would take them off from your list. This hotel has no service concept. Not sure how they serve breakfast or other items. Clearly no no for any incoming tourists. Stay away from this SL INTERNATIONAL HOTEL. Then there was Laxmi continental resort in Havelock which was quite nice and good. Excellent service and food. Aashi cruise has Deluxe and Luxury classes. Aashi vessel has stopped all its operations in Andaman Islands as of 2023.

Government ferry sails from Port Blair to Havelock Island on a regular basis. Earlier this ferry used to sail in the morning and after from Port Blair. However, lately only one sailing of Government ferry happens from Port Blair to Havelock. There is no online booking of Government ferry and you need to stand in a queue and book the tickets as per availability on the given date.  Initiated in 2009, Makruzz is the passenger servicing arm of MAK Logistics. Been in service for 15 years now, Makruzz makes the oldest private ferry in the Andamans. The primary intent behind this pioneering initiative was to improve the accessibility to tourist worthy destinations like Havelock and Neil. Makruzz has two decks and four categories of seats: Premium, Premium +, Deluxe, and Royal. Premium and Premium + seats are available on the lower deck with the Premium + seats having a window view. The upper deck accommodates the Deluxe and Royal seats with the royal class having eight pushback seats in a private cabin.

NAUTIKA has been one of the reputed private ferries since 2022. New and fast, with two completely air-conditioned decks she accommodates 285 passengers in comfort and style. Nautika ferry is at par with international speed standards of 30 knots churning forth from her stern. NAUTIKA ferry is furnished with twin upper and lower decks, further classed into Royal and Luxury. It also has comfortable seating, decent interiors and provides entertainment facilities like live music and dance for the passengers.

Green Ocean

 The only private ferry to offer an open deck, Green Ocean Cruise has 2 vessels. Green Ocean 1 offers seating and a guest movement area, for guests to be able to get some fresh air. Green Ocean 2 is a fully air-conditioned ferry with no open deck area. Green Ocean 1 has a total of 316 seats divided into 3 categories namely Deluxe, Luxury, and Royal. It also has an open-air cafeteria and an in-built music entertainment system.

ITT Majestic

Focused on comfortable, hassle- free and luxurious customer services, ITT Majestic is a high-speed, fully air-conditioned catamaran ferry. ITT Majestic has 200 seats divided into two categories: Silver and Majesty. The silver category is a little crowded but offers a good view of the sea- from both the front and the side. Majestic category on the other hand, has an extra legroom, is more premium and offers refreshments onboard.

Andaman Government Ferry Services

Government ferries from Havelock to Port Blair are operated by the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS). The department primarily operates for the convenience of local islanders. Since this is the only way of transportation for the islanders, tickets are highly subsidized for them. Residents also have a decent local knowledge which makes using government ferries convenient for them. 

Though slightly cheaper in comparison to the private ferries, government Ferry booking is not available on our platform as we think that from a tourist’s point of view, it’s not the most feasible way. However they’re available everyday and depart from Phoenix Bay Jetty.

Why do we recommend Private ferries over Government ferries?

As mentioned earlier, we as localities feel that for a more relaxed and hassle-free holiday experience, it’s advisable to opt for private ferries which primarily work for the travellers.The government ones are designed mainly for local transportation and may not be the ideal choice for tourists. Go2Andaman does not facilitate bookings for government ferry tickets. If you plan to use them, tickets can be purchased at the offline counters and offices. Keep in mind that ticket queues tend to form early in the morning, and if you find yourself at the back of the line, there’s a chance that seats may be occupied by the time your turn arrives. Moreover, having only limited seats, the tickets on government ferries are booked months in advance, sometimes the waiting is 4-6 months.

Baggage- You can take as much baggage as you like for free without making a reservation. Baggage items include briefcases, laptops, rucksacks, trolley bags or suitcases. • Arrive at the Havelock jetty at least one hour before your scheduled departure time. 
• Complete the check-in process for your luggage and proceed to your assigned seats.

• Reach Port Blair jetty in 90 minutes.

• Make sure to be present at the jetty at least 1 hour before the ferry departure time for a seamless boarding experience.

Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ’s

On most ferries, an infant above the age of 1 year is charged on a full-charge basis and an infant below the age of 1 year can travel free of cost. On some ferries, an infant below the age of 1 year is charged a small fee. This changes from operator-to-operator. 

It is mandatory to carry a print-out of your ferry tickets. A soft copy or email confirmation is not valid to board the ferry. Another important document to carry is your valid ID Card/ Passport. 

We recommend that you reach the jetty at-least 45 mins prior to the departing time so you have sufficient time for boarding. If travelling with children or senior citizens, 1 hour prior would be ideal. The boarding gates close 30 mins before departure.

• Once you reach the jetty gates, your tickets are checked after which you are allowed to enter the jetty
• Then you get your luggage scanned, pick up your luggage & start walking towards your ferry
• You then drop off your bags at the back side of ferry in the luggage store compartment
• After that you can board the ferry and take your seats.
• Both Makruzz and Green Ocean Ferries have cafes where you can buy hot and cold beverages, snacks and mineral water.
• There are lavatories for use for both men and women.
• If you have booked Royal class seats,  refreshments would be provided on your seats. If you have booked Premium or Deluxe class seats then you would need to buy your refreshments from the canteen on the ferry.
• It is mandatory to carry a valid ID proof for all the passengers.
• If you are a non-Indian you will need to carry a vaild passport.
