A street in Brockville, Magedoma Drive, is even named after Fulford's steam yacht. The steam yacht, Magedoma sailed the St. Lawrence River for nearly 40 years - a return would mark a legacy voyage for the vintage vessel which found a home port here in the Thousand Islands more than a century ago.
This is the story of one of those yachts – one with an unusual connection to the Finger Lakes Region. Cangarda spent nearly three decades docked on Rochester’s Genesee River (generally unnoticed), was nearly lost but ultimately survived in a beautiful restoration. Photo by Lucas Rutherford.

HMCS MAGEDOMA. Fate: Sailing out of Mystic, Connecticut as Cangarda. Built as Cangarda in 1901 for lumber mogul Charles Canfield, she was purchased by businessman George Taylor Fulford out of Brockville, in 1904 and re-named MAGEDOMA. Fulford died in 1905 but his family retained the yacht.
The Steam Yacht fiCangardafl Cangarda is a unique survivor of the glorious age of steam. Her extraordinary state of originality and preservation make her one of the best restoration opportunities in the world. The original steam engines have been fully restored by the Kew Bridge Steam Museum in London.
The 42 metre steel and wooden superyacht Cangarda (ex. Magedoma) has arrived at Front Street Shipyard in Maine, U.S. for her latest set of work. Built by Pusey & Jones in 1901, this classic yacht has a colourful history.
