Boat of the Week: This 135-Foot Explorer Yacht Has One of the Largest Flybridges in Its Class

This 41-meter superyacht from Amer Yachts has a very different take on expedition yachts.

Even a conventional-looking yacht can yield big surprises. The new Amer 41 Explorer was designed not to turn heads but to supersize the functionality of the boat—at least as far as the veteran owner is concerned.

The currently unnamed explorer, now in build with Amer Yachts in Italy, also broke the rules of yacht design by eliminating the beach club and therewith expanding the flybridge.

This 41-meter superyacht from Amer Yachts has a very different take on expedition yachts.

Miami-based designer Luiz De Basto created the Amer 41 for a repeat client, taking some features from the owner’s previous yacht, Far Far Away, a 127-foot displacement expedition yacht he also penned. Far Far Away has an aft-heavy profile, with guest areas placed near the stern while, like with the new 41, a large tender deck is situated forward. This unusual configuration separates social spaces from service areas while making the boat more functional. The owner loved it so much that he mandated it be a key design feature on his new boat.

“The family enjoyed extensive travels aboard Far Far Away , and their experiences formed the basis for this new design,” De Basto told Robb Report . “The vision was for a larger and improved version that kept the open foredeck, a solution that they had tested and approved.”

The bridge overlooks the foredeck, with a floor-to-ceiling forward angled windshield that gives the captain 270-degrees of visibility. The “floating” dashboard, complete with an advanced electronic package, will be “evocative of a cinematic spaceship,” says De Basto.

While this configuration is unusual, it’s a smart solution, especially with the integrated crane. The system was conceived by De Basto for quick launch-and-retrieval of tenders and eliminates the need for an aft tender garage. The crane also gives the boat a cool look that legitimizes its custom explorer design.

The owner also decided to do away with a traditional beach club, which is almost sacrilege in the current design trend of ever-larger beach clubs and swim platforms that usually include foldout side decks.

“The family never used the beach club on their older boat,” says De Basto. “Instead, they decided this time to increase the flybridge by 55 feet. While that’s not hugely evident from the exterior renderings, it actually represents more than 40 percent of the yacht’s total length.”

There’s plenty of space across the yacht for socializing. The aft side exterior decks are dedicated to social activities and also guarantee the family privacy when the boat is docked stern to, which you wouldn’t get with a conventional beach club. On the upper deck is a sky lounge with direct access to alfresco dining, while the flybridge—the area where the family intend to spend most of their time—is dedicated to outdoor entertainment, with sunbeds, a bar, a pizza oven and a rotating sofa. Forward is an observation seating area for privacy. A glass staircase will connect all four decks.

The interior has yet to be revealed but will have a layout similar to the owner’s previous yacht, with five cabins for up to 10 guests on the lower deck amidships. The main deck is given over to a salon and dining area with sliding glass doors on each side. De Basto describes it as having “clean lines, full of texture and oriented around family life.”

Optima Design did the naval architecture and hull engineering on the steel hull, which has a shallow draft of 7.4 feet. Optima designed the bottom to enhance fuel efficiency and the Volvo Penta D13 IMO III engines will lower emissions. The 41 is expected to have a cruise speed of 12 knots, with an estimated top speed of 15 knots. Construction at Amer Yachts began in early 2022, with delivery scheduled for early 2025. By then, we should have a name for the innovative explorer.

What Are the Best Boat Garage Designs for Yachts?

Bill Michaels

Choosing the right design for your yacht garage is essential for making sure that your boat is well-protected at all times. Not only should your garage be designed to accommodate the size and capacity of your yacht, it should also be located in a secure area with easy access, and feature convenient maintenance and storage options. It should be aesthetically pleasing and incorporate effective security precautions. With the right design, you can rest assured that your yacht will be well cared for and safe when not in use.

Why Choose the Right Design for a Yacht Garage?

Choosing the right design for a yacht garage is essential for ensuring that your yacht is kept safe and secure. It’s also important for ensuring that you have the most aesthetically pleasing atmosphere for your boat. The best boat garage designs for yachts should provide maximum protection and also create a space that you will be proud to show off.

When considering the best design for a yacht garage, there are several factors that should be taken into account. Size and capacity are important to consider in order to ensure that your boat is stored in the most secure and efficient way.

The location of the garage is also important to think about, as this will affect how easily it can be accessed.

You should consider maintenance and storage needs, as well as ease of accessibility and security. Aesthetics should also be taken into account when choosing the right design for a yacht garage. By taking all of these factors into consideration, you can ensure that you have the best boat garage design for your yacht.

This will keep your yacht safe and secure, while also creating a beautiful and inviting atmosphere to show off your prized possession. With the right design, your yacht garage can be both practical and attractive.

Factors to Consider When Designing a Boat Garage

When designing a boat garage, it’s important to consider a variety of factors that will ensure your yacht will be well protected and look its best. Think about factors like size and capacity, location, maintenance and storage, ease of accessibility, security, and aesthetics. Size and capacity will determine what kind of yacht you can fit in the garage; make sure you have the exact measurements for the yacht you plan to store.

Location is key when it comes to protecting your yacht from the elements, so consider the proximity to the water and the local climate when deciding where to set up the garage. Maintenance and storage capabilities should be taken into account; you’ll want to make sure the space is big enough to store accessories, such as anchors and sails, and to carry out any necessary repairs.

Accessibility is important too; look for a location with good access roads and plenty of space to maneuver your yacht in and out of the garage.

Security is also essential, as you’ll want to protect your yacht from theft; look for an area with plenty of security cameras and a good locksmith nearby, just in case. Aesthetics play a big role; choose a design that complements your yacht and looks good in your location. All these factors are key when it comes to selecting the best boat garage for your yacht.

Size and Capacity

When it comes to size and capacity for your yacht garage, it is important to consider the size of your yacht and the necessary space to store it. If you have a large yacht, you need to make sure that your garage is large enough to accommodate it. If you plan to store other items, such as jet skis, kayaks, and other watercraft, be sure to factor this into your design as well.

It is important to ensure that you have enough storage space for all of your items, as well as enough space to move around the items when needed.

When designing a boat garage with size and capacity in mind, it is also important to assess the terrain and the available space around the boat garage. For instance, if the ground is uneven, you may need to level it out in order to provide a safe, stable foundation. If you have limited space, you may need to consider other options such as a floating or cantilevered structure.

When designing a boat garage, consider the climate in which you will be storing your boat. If you live in a humid area, for instance, you may need to incorporate additional insulation to protect your boat from moisture and mildew.

A good ventilation system is also essential for controlling the temperature and the air quality. All of these factors should be taken into consideration when planning for a boat garage.

When it comes to yacht garage design, location is key. Consider carefully the environment in which your yacht will be stored, as this will affect both your security and the longevity of your boat. Aim to store your yacht in a spot that is out of the way and away from any potential damage or theft.

Make sure that the water access is easy to reach and that there is enough room for maintenance and storage.

Also consider the geographical climate, including prevailing winds and any seasonal weather changes. It’s best to find a sheltered spot that offers protection from these factors. Ensure that the boat garage is close enough to the dock or port in order to make access easy, but still far enough away to be out of the public eye.

Maintenance and Storage

When it comes to maintaining your yacht, the design of your boat garage should make it easy and efficient to store and access tools and supplies. The storage space should be large enough and conveniently located so that you can easily move items to and from the boat. Invest in storage racks and shelves that are specifically suited to the materials and items you need to store in your garage, such as paints, cleaning supplies, and tools.

If you have a lift or dock, install a hoist system in your garage so that you can easily move items from the dock and onto the yacht. The design of your boat garage should also allow for easy and safe access.

Make sure that the door to the garage is large enough to allow for the entry and exit of the yacht.

Ensure that the door is made of a durable material to protect the yacht from the elements as well as provide security. Make sure that the access path to the garage is clear and easy to navigate so that you can easily move items in and out of the garage. The design of your boat garage should be aesthetically pleasing.

You want your boat garage to be a place of pride and joy, not an eyesore.

Consider adding a touch of personal style to your design, such as adding a mural or painting the walls with bright colors. Invest in quality lighting fixtures to highlight the features of your garage and ensure that the space is well-lit. With careful consideration and planning, you can create a boat garage that is both practical and attractive.

Ease of Accessibility

When designing a boat garage, it is important to make sure it is accessible in order to ensure your boat is safe and secure. Ensure that your boat garage is wide enough for you to access your boat with ease and that the doors have enough clearance for you to get to the boat without obstruction.

Make sure that the doorways are not too narrow or too steep for you to walk through. You should also ensure that your garage has a drive-in entryway that allows you to park your vehicle and drive your boat in and out with ease.

You should ensure that your garage is well lit and provides adequate space for you to unload and load supplies. For a truly carefree experience, you should invest in a garage door opener. This will allow you to quickly and easily open and close your garage door without manual labor.

You should consider investing in a quality security system in order to protect your boat and belongings from theft or damage. If you are looking for a truly luxurious experience, you may want to look into installing a heated garage door. This will allow you to enjoy the warmth of your garage without the need to step outside in colder weather.

It is essential to consider security when designing a boat garage for a yacht. Make sure that any doors, windows, and other access points are well-secured, preferably with reinforced locks and deadbolts. If the yacht garage is in a remote area, consider using motion-triggered lighting and other security devices to deter criminals.

You may want to consider installing a surveillance system to monitor the area and ensure that any suspicious activity is quickly identified and addressed. When creating a boat garage, make sure to think about the user experience.

Try to create an open and welcoming atmosphere that promotes safety and security while simultaneously providing a sense of comfort and security. Utilize natural materials like wood and stone to create a sense of protection, and utilize lighting to add an extra layer of security. Be sure to use high-quality materials for the locks, doors, and windows to ensure that your yacht remains safe and secure.

When it comes to boat garage designs, aesthetics is an important consideration. It is important to choose a design that is both attractive and functional. Consider the colors and textures you want to use, and make sure they match the overall look of your yacht.

Take into account the type of materials you want to use, and make sure they will stand up to the elements without fading or becoming damaged. Think about the shape and size of your boat garage and how it will fit into the landscape surrounding your yacht.

You want it to be both attractive and practical, so it’s important to choose a design that will work well with the existing space.

Make sure you also take into account the actual use of the boat garage. Select a design that will ensure the safety of your vessel and allow for easy navigation when entering and exiting the garage. Opt for an open design to make it easier to move around, and select materials that are resistant to the elements.

If you’re looking for something more decorative, consider adding a few accents such as flags or awnings to give your boat garage some extra pizzazz. Remember to factor in the cost of the design and make sure it fits within your budget.

Reliable boat storage for ultimate protection.

Boat owners know the importance of keeping a watercraft safe from the elements when not on the water. Reliable boat storage is a must in order to protect your investment from wicked weather and even theft. Benefits of storage for boats include:

  • Weather protection: While you may utilize a storage shed for other vehicles, many people forget boat storage is just as important. Your watercraft needs to stay protected from the elements to ensure the paint as well as the engine stay in good working order.
  • Security: Boat storage can be erected right in your backyard with a reliable shelter to keep your boat safe from thieves. Choose from pad lockable options and boat storage with sturdy steel walls and doors for an increased level of security without the hassle.
  • Yard space: Win back yard space and increase your curb appeal by adding a boat storage building to your property. Use the extra area to build a garden or declutter with the addition of a storage shed.
  • Convenience: Don’t worry about traveling to access your boat at a self storage unit. You’ll have 24/7 access with a boat canopy at home allowing for routine maintenance to elongate the life of your watercraft.
  • Cost savings: How much does it cost to store a boat monthly? An offsite storage unit can cost hundreds of dollars or more a month, taking a big chunk out of your pocketbook just to store a boat. Adding a storage shed on your property is a one-time investment that will pay off over the years when compared to a monthly fee for boat storage.

Shelters for Optimal Boat Storage

Depending on the size of the watercraft you want to stow away, there are a variety of solid options to protect a boat from the elements. From all-steel boat garage options to fabric shelters, find the perfect storage solution to fit your needs and budget. What is the difference between fabric and steel storage solutions?

  • Fabric: Fabric boat storage shelters are generally less expensive when compared with their all-steel counterparts, but are still built to last with ripstop rough polyethylene covers that protect belongings from rough weather and other environmental threats. Fabric storage solutions also have increased versatility due to their portability, providing an opportunity to disassemble and move the shelter throughout the season if storage needs change.
  • Steel: All-steel boat storage provides premium protection for your investment that is powder coated to combat rust and corrosion. While these boat storage unit options tend to be more expensive than fabric shelters, they also offer superior strength against wind, snow, rain, and other inclement weather. These shelters are permanent and do not offer the same flexibility as their fabric counterparts.

  • Heavy duty pad-lockable doors for ultimate protection

Arrow Carports

Utilizing carports for boat storage is a cost-effective way to shield your watercraft from harmful sunlight, rain, and other weather-related threats. Each of these boat canopies is wind and snow load rated for supreme protection. Choose from different colors and heights for the perfect addition to your property. The galvanized steel is made to stand up to Mother Nature with rust and corrosion resistance. The slip fit connections and pre-drilled holes offer simple assembly for DIY setup without the hassle. Enjoy the option for portability with deluxe all-steel construction. Other features include:

  • 35 PSF snow load rating and 100 mph wind rating
  • Features a 2 inch square tube frame for increased s a tbility
  • 12 inch overhang at roof gables for extra weather protection

How to Choose the Right Boat Storage Shelter

When deciding between fabric and all-steel boat storage solutions, you should ask yourself a few questions to figure out which may be the best option for you.

  • How much space will I need for my boat? Make sure to measure your watercraft along with anything else you plan to store inside. Choose a storage option that offers enough space for your boat as well as any other belongings you plan to keep inside.
  • What is my budget for boat storage? It’s important to remember that all-steel storage solutions tend to cost the most money due to their galvanized steel construction. Fabric shelters are the most cost effective along with carports that are not enclosed. If budget is your top priority, a fabric shelter or carport may be easiest on the wallet depending on the size you need.
  • Do I need an enclosed boat storage shed? If inclement weather tends to be an issue where you live, an enclosed boat storage option will provide more protection when compared to a carport. If the biggest environmental threat to your boat is harsh sunlight and rain, a carport may be a solid option that is also more cost effective.
  • Will I need to move the boat storage solution? If you anticipate moving your storage to another spot on your property throughout the season, make sure to choose a boat storage shelter that can be disassembled and moved. The carport and fabric shelters have the ability to move, whereas their steel counterparts are more permanent.

Boat Carport vs. Boat Garage

carport boat storage with sides closed

A boat carport provides a roof to cover your boat, and comes with open sides or partial or full side panels. The primary advantage of a boat carport is that it provides a lot of protection for a very low cost.

A boat garage is fully enclosed, so it provides even better protection for your boat from the weather. It also puts your boat out of sight, protects it from vandalism and theft, and provides additional storage space for other items.

Avoid Boat Storage Fees with Your Own Boat Shelter

Taking your boat out for some fishing and relaxation is always a great way to spend a day, but when winter comes, the cost of storing your boat can seem like a steep price to pay. However, when you own your own boat shelter, you won’t have to pay storage fees, and you can feel confident that your boat will be safe and secure through the winter in your own boat storage shed.

yachts with boat garage

At Alan’s Factory Outlet, we have a wide selection of metal boat storage buildings that will protect your boat from the elements. Our prefab storage sheds, metal carports , and garages can easily be customized to make the perfect boat garage for protecting and storing your vessel during the off-season on your own property. Our carports and garages are also ideal for storing other large vehicles, like RVs. Order with us and see how easy it can be to make your boat carport ideas come to life!

Why Use a Covered Boat Storage Building?

Our boat storage buildings will protect your vessel from:

When faced with the dilemma of where to store your boat for the winter, you might choose to store it in the water or ashore. But if you leave it in the water, you’re running the risk of damage from the elements as well as theft. Storing your boat on land in one of our boat sheds for sale is usually a better option, but you need to make sure to properly prepare it for the winter before you stow your vessel.

How to Winterize Your Boat and Prepare it for a Boat Shelter

Before storing your boat for the winter, follow these steps to winterize your boat:

  • Wash the top, bottom, and deck and let it dry.
  • Fix any blistering or other damage you find.
  • Flush out the cooling system.
  • Add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank.
  • Coat the engine with an aerosol fogging solution.
  • Drain the engine.
  • Change the oil and filter.
  • Drain and change the gear-case lubricant.

You’ve Winterized Your Boat: Now What?

Off-site storage can be expensive, and storing a boat at home in the garage is typically not an option. You could always leave the boat out in the yard, but that can be unsightly (and might even violate HOA rules), and constant exposure to the elements can cause damage to your boat. While a stored boat should be covered with some form of tarp, the need to brush the snow off of the covering all winter can quickly become a nuisance. A good solution to this problem is to consider adding your own boat storage. Installing a carport for boat storage can not only protect these vessels from snow and other elements but also protect them from vandalism, trespassing, and even theft of parts. Metal boat storage sheds are also a more visually appealing option for stowing your boat.

Build or Rent?

If you’re short on boat shelter ideas, you may think that renting storage is the easiest option. It may be low-effort (or it may not, depending on the situation), but keep in mind that you’ll have to keep paying rental fees every year. Those costs can really add up, but when you invest in your own garage or carport for boat storage once, you can use it for many seasons to come, saving yourself money in the long run. Building storage for your boat can also be a lot easier than you’re imagining.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does dry boat storage cost per month on average.

In most cases, you can expect to pay $200 to $300 a month for dry boat storage. The price can vary depending on your location and the size of your boat.

How Much Does Boat Storage Cost When You Buy Your Own Shelter?

Our boat carport prices start at around $1,500. For garages used as boat storage, the smallest size is around $4,000.

How Wide and Tall Does the Door Need to Be for a Boat Storage Garage?

A typical small fishing boat will need a garage door that’s at least 10 feet wide and 14 feet high. But since the sizes of boats can vary widely, it’s a good idea to measure the dimensions of your boat, then add a few feet to the width and height to ensure adequate clearance.

Can a Pontoon Boat Fit in a Garage?

Yes! Pontoon boats come in many different sizes, but so do our garages. A pontoon boat can certainly fit in a garage if you measure the dimensions carefully to ensure that you’re ordering the right size. Check our size and  price guides  to find what options might best suit your pontoon boat.

What Size Carport for a Pontoon Boat Is Best?

There isn’t a singular best size carport for a pontoon boat, since these boats are produced in a wide variety of sizes. Fortunately, so are our carports! Explore our  carport sizes  to find the one that works best for your pontoon boat.

Can I Store a Boat in a Storage Unit?

You may be able to find an individual storage unit that is large enough to accommodate your boat. However, if you’re looking for boat garage ideas, we don’t recommend this option, as these units are not designed for boat storage. You might damage the boat just trying to get it inside and, even if it fits comfortably, if the unit isn’t properly climate-controlled, your boat might not be in the same condition you left it when you return for it. In the long run, you’ll save money and lower the risk of damage by installing your own boat storage building.

Create the Perfect Boat Garage or Carport and Save

When choosing what sort of boat shelter you need, you’ll want to consider a few factors, including the size of your property, the size of your boat, and whether or not you’ll want to store anything else in there, too. For instance, often, people who own an RV and a boat will often choose one structure that’s big enough to house both, such as a large carport . Our  metal carports  offer protection from above, but they typically don’t have walls, although you can partially enclose yours if you wish. Metal garages are another option for both boat and RV storage, and they might be a better choice for those who don’t want their boat to be visible to passers-by. Our garages come in a host of colors and designs that can complement the look of any home.

When you are ready to buy shelter for your boat, you can trust Alan’s Factory Outlet to help you find the right boat garage option for your needs. Our metal garages are high-quality structures and are perfect for use as a boat storage shed. If you have any questions about what type of building is best for your boat, we are here to answer any questions that you may have. Electric Candela hydrofoil boat sets world record by crossing Baltic Sea

  • September 16, 2024

An all-electric hydrofoiling boat from Swedish company Candela has set two new world records by travelling between Stockholm and the Finnish autonomous region of Åland, marking the first time an electric boat has crossed the Baltic Sea.

Candela, which has developed a range of electric hydrofoil boats and ships, wanted to demonstrate that “that zero-emission sea travel is not only possible today, but that foiling electric ships and boats are so much cheaper to operate than fossil-fuelled vessels.”

The record-breaking journey was undertaken in the Candela C-8, a €330,000 ($A544,500) leisure craft, equipped with a battery from technology partner Polestar.

The journey covered 150 nautical miles from the port of Frihamn in Stockholm, Sweden, to Mariehamn, the capital and largest town of the Åland Islands, an autonomous region of Finland, with a charging stop in Kapellskär.

While charging along the trip was made mostly with existing charging infrastructure, a 40kW Kempower Movable Charger was needed in Kapellskär.

Leaving from Frihamn at 6am, the Candela C-8 made it to Mariehamn by lunchtime, and returned to Frihamn the same day.

“The disadvantage of electric boats has been their short range, due to traditional boat hulls consuming so much energy,” said Gustav Hasselskog , the company’s CEO and founder.

“With our hydrofoil technology, we combine high speed and range, but you get so many other benefits. Flying over the Åland Sea in total silence and without slamming was absolutely magical.”

A gasoline-powered chase boat of similar size accompanied the Candela C-8 on the journey and had to be refuelled for a cost of €750, or around $A1,230. For comparison, the Candela C-8 consumed 213 kWh of electricity, at a cost of about €40-50 (around $A66-83).

“We actually had range anxiety, but not for the Candela,” said Gustav Hasselskog.

“The irony is that the photographer’s gasoline-powered chase boat had to refuel six times during the trip, while we only charged three times.

“We’re talking about 95% lower operating costs,” concluded Hasselskog. “This is a revolution that makes waterborne transöport competitive with land transport in terms of costs, which we will now demonstrate in public transport in Stockholm.”

We are definitely in an age of disruption, as much as the bashers, critics and cynics like to deny it. Amazing, 1/25th the cost of their ICE partner boat! And quieter, cleaner and calmer too boot!

Google informs me a litre of diesel is € 1.668, so that trip would have used ~450 litres of diesel, or 4,500 kWh. That’s shockingly inefficient.

I’m all for cheaper and cleaner water transöport!

Boats are better than cars in the Polish town where floods have damaged 80% of homes

Across central Europe, at least 22 people have died after Storm Boris left large areas submerged, causing havoc in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Austria.

For some of the residents of Lewin Brezski, the only way out now is by boat.

Around 80% of the homes in the southwestern Polish town have been flooded by water bursting out of raging rivers with little warning even after the rain has stopped.

In the streets, cars are submerged so only their roofs are showing.

Tadeusz Lewczak says water has filled his home to the ceiling.

"My children have lost everything," he tells me, "There wasn't any time. They told us there would be water, but we didn't know it would be so high."

Standout superyacht helicopter decks

Once the luxury of a select few, the not-so-humble helipad is having a bit of a moment. With the explosion of interest in the explorer yacht market, a touch-and-go landing pad is becoming more of a necessity than the extravagance it once was. Sure, a tender will get you from shore to superyacht in good time, but there's nothing that quite compares to touching down on the bow. We take a closer look at some of the best helidecks afloat...

Bold carries a certified helideck with a D value of 13 making it suitable for a craft such as the 3.2-tonne, twin-engine, eight-seat AgustaWestland AW109S Grand. Equipped with proper lighting and fire-safety gear, it is far from any structure that can create turbulence and features opening bulwarks to expand the deck width. While there is plenty of room to stow the craft on deck, the ocean environment is notoriously detrimental to delicate electronics, and big waves or wind can tip even a large heli over. So Bold transports its helicopter over long passages in a garage with a ceiling that adjusts in height to accommodate the craft with its rotors removed.

A defining feature of Geco's exterior design is the touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck. The minimalist platform complements the modern and slender profile of the 55 metre superyacht, and when not hosting a chopper, this round platform is instead transformed into a Moroccan-style cocktail area best enjoyed at sunset. After dark, the helipad also works as the perfect spot for stargazing.

Designed in a military-inspired style by Espen Øino , the helideck area on 71 metre Lürssen Skat was the first to be penned by the designer for a superyacht. Located on the aft deck, the helipad has a dual purpose as a landing site for choppers and also providing shade to the deck space below.

Lürssen superyacht Ace features a foredeck helipad marked that bucks tradition by replacing the usual "H" sign with a giant "A" to represent her name. But this distinctive helideck is not actually the main landing site for arrivals from the air. Instead, landings would usually take place on support vessel Garçon , leaving the forward end of Ace, which features a swimming pool and sunbeds free for fun.

OceanXplorer

Once an oil survey vessel, the 87 metre OceanXplorer completed a refit by Damen in 2020 that turned her into the ultimate expedition yacht complete with high-tech toys, scientific research labs and Hollywood-standard editing facilities. This includes the addition of new helipad at the bow, which has been shifted three frames (1.8 metres) further forward, in order to create enough room for a proper hangar behind it which has been finished with a futuristic top-hinged door.

Ragnar is one of the coolest conversion projects to splash in recent years. Having started life as an icebreaking tug, even the harshest environments are a walk in the park for this Viking-inspired explorer. Unsurprisingly, Ragnar is jam-packed with some serious tools for exploring ashore, including an Airbus EC145 which sits atop a certified helideck, perfect for whisking thrill-seeking guests off for an afternoon of heli-skiing.

Hodor's 220 square metre helideck is fully certified and a CAP 437-compliant helipad sits aft of the 66-metre catamaran's upper deck. The Incat Crowther shadow cat features an Airbus H145 helicopter in matching stealth-grey among its plethora of superyacht toys.

Octopus is perhaps one of the best known explorers on the water. The 126 metre Lürssen hit the water in 2003, commissioned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, and was designed for far-flung global adventures. She has two helipads on board, one fore and one aft, with a hangar that can store two aircraft. Since her delivery, Octopus has explored the coast of Antarctica, traversed the Northwest Passage and discovered the wrecks of long-lost WW2 battleships off the Philippines.

The foredeck on the 95.2 metre Lürssen superyacht Kismet is marked for half-court basketball, but it can also double up as a touch-and-go helipad. Her sport-loving owner Shahid Khan has sports interests on both sides of the Atlantic, owning both the Jacksonville Jaguars basketball team and Fulham FC.

Planet Nine

To prepare her for adventures in the Antarctic, Planet Nine's helipad was designed with a lifting platform that allows the aircraft to be stowed in the hangar beneath when not in use. This also enables the 73 metre explorer yacht to carry two helicopters at once, allowing guests to arrive on board by chopper while the owner's own helicopter is stowed safely away.

Starmer looks to Italy on how to stop migrant boats

Sir Keir Starmer has suggested he will study Italy's asylum processing deal with Albania as part of a "pragmatic" approach to tackling migrant boats crossing the English Channel.

Speaking to reporters, the prime minister said he had discussed the "concept" of Italy's deal during talks in Rome with Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni.

Meloni said Sir Keir had shown "great interest" in the planned scheme, under which some migrants rescued in Italian waters will be sent to the Balkan country to have their asylum claims processed.

Sir Keir also said he was interested in Italy's model of paying north African countries to do more to stop boat crossings.

Starmer in Italy to discuss migration with PM Meloni

How many people cross the Channel in small boats?

He added that deals with Tunisia and Libya “appears to have had quite a profound effect” in helping Italy cut the number of migrant arrivals.

The Labour government has scrapped a Conservative plan to send asylum seekers on a one-way ticket to Rwanda, where they would only be able to apply for refugee status in the east African nation.

But it has indicated an interest in schemes under which migrants crossing the English Channel could have their applications to stay in the UK processed abroad.

Italy's right-wing government, led by Meloni since October 2022, is not a natural political ally for Labour leader Sir Keir, but he has expressed an interest in learning from its tactics to counter illegal migration.

Under its five-year deal with Albania, agreed last year, some migrants rescued by the Italian coastguard will be sent there to have their asylum claims processed in two centres funded and managed by Italy.

In a key difference with the Rwanda plan, those that succeed will come to Italy as refugees. Those whose applications are rejected will be detained in Albania until they can be returned to their home countries.

Only migrants from countries deemed safe by Italy - whose claims are more likely to be rejected - will be sent, whilst pregnant women, minors and other categories of vulnerable people will be excluded.

The scheme, which the Italian government says will cost €670m (£564m), was meant to start in August but has been delayed, with Meloni saying it will be "few weeks” before it gets going.

It has been criticised by some right groups, who have questioned how failed asylum claims could be properly appealed and argued it could leave people in legal limbo.

En route to Rome, Sir Keir said he was “interested” in learning about the scheme and later confirmed he had discussed it during his meeting with Meloni.

The prime minister also discussed the model with Albanian counterpart Edi Rama during a summit of European leaders in July, when he said he wanted to "look at what works".

Speaking at a press conference, Sir Keir said the impact of Italy's Albania deal was not yet clear because the scheme had yet to begin operating, but he had discussed "the concept of it" with Meloni.

It is not clear, however, how likely it is such a deal could be replicated.

Albania, which is seeking to bolster its longstanding application to join the EU, has suggested that such a deal is only with Italy, its closest ally in Europe.

'British pragmatism'

Sir Keir also underlined he was also interested in Italy's agreements with north African countries, which have emerged as important hubs for migrants attempting to make the journey to Europe.

Alongside the EU, Italy has granted Tunisia financial aid for education and energy projects in return for greater efforts to stop migrants crossing the Mediterranean.

It has an agreement with the UN-backed Libyan government, under which Italy trains and funds the coastguard to intercept migrant boats.

Both of those deals have proved controversial, attracting criticism from rights groups for the treatment of those stopped from crossing.

Sir Keir told reporters this work to stop arrivals "upstream" was a "more likely” factor than the Albania deal in explaining a 64% drop this year in the number of people crossing to Italy from Africa.

"Preventing people leaving their country in the first place is far better than trying to deal with those that have arrived in any of our countries, so I was very interested in that," he added.

"In a sense, today was a return - if you like - to British pragmatism.

"We are pragmatists first and foremost. When we see a challenge we discuss with our friends and allies the different approaches that are being taken [and] look at what works."

However, some Labour backbenchers have criticised their leader for seeking inspiration from Meloni's government.

Liverpool Riverside MP Kim Johnson called it "disturbing," whilst Nottingham East's Nadia Whittome said the UK should not be "taking lessons" from Italy.

[Editor’s note: This story contains spoilers for “ Industry ” Season 3, Episode 6, “Nikki Beach, or: So Many Ways to Lose.”]

It is the most dramatic and arguably most consequential moment in the three seasons of HBO ‘s “ Industry .” During a heated argument with his daughter Yasmin ( Marisa Abela ), the disgraced book publisher Charles Hanani (Adam Levy) leaps from his yacht into the Mediterranean. His daughter decides not throw the buoy and save him, instead confiding in her friend Harper (Myha’la) to cover her tracks.

After the father-daughter unload, saying the most brutal and brutally honest things imaginable to one another, Levy, a well-established theater actor, saw the moment from his character’s perspective as a piece of theater, with Charles jumping as his moment to play the martyr.

“I was quickly able to find the motivation,” said Levy. “Charles is theatrical. It’s a vitriolic moment for him, before going in the water it was actually liberating. I think the trickiness was actually the intimate scenes on the boat with my daughter.”

Eklöf had one big note for Levy, which the actor agrees was the key to unlocking any villains he’s ever played.

“I’ve worked with male narcissists and psychopath [characters] in almost every single thing I’ve done, it’s always the same problem,” said Eklöf. “They have a hard time defending the character, because they think they’re supposed to play a stereotype. I always have to convince the guys who play rapists and bad guys that they need to have sympathy with this guy, otherwise it’s not going to work.”

“For Marisa, it wasn’t hard for her at all to find it. She’s very, very talented,” said Eklöf. “I think maybe it is kind of accessible for most women. Most women have had that feeling through life of butting their head against a stone wall of privilege, so I think it’s easily accessible.”

According to Abela, the way the writing built toward the moment, her character’s motivation was clear, and there was one moment in particular she saw a point of no return.

“I think it comes from the fact that when he pulls her into the hug, that she can feel him [Charles is still erect], I think that is a trigger for her because of her past. She sees red,” said Abela. “Hearing this sort of barrage of hatred from him, I do really think in that moment she wants to never see or think or hear from him again.”

yachts with boat garage

In breaking down what immediately happens after Charles jumps, and her character’s decision to not act, Abela told IndieWire she analyzed the moment from three different perspectives, asking her the following: Is it a shock that he jumped? Is it an active decision? Is it negligence or even murder?

For Abela the Episode 6 fireworks are the punctuation of how the season has unfolded, with various flashbacks to the boat layered throughout the previous episodes.

“The flashbacks throughout the season punctuates how we filmed it. Each moment leads into the next,” said Abela. “Seeing him in her room on her bed [having sex with his young employee in Episode 1]. He’s brought her here, but he’s in lots of trouble, so he’s implicating her. There’s so much power abuse at the beginning of this [season] when it comes to her father because he knows that she’s completely financially dependent on him.”

The “Industry” creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay agree with Abela, and view the payoff in Episode 6 as an example of how in Season 3 the former investors-turned- TV writers finally got the hang of how to structure the arc of a season of TV. It started when they sat down to write the first episode of the season, making the realization they needed to start on the boat, dropping the audience into Yasmin’s perspective of navigating Charles’ debachorous world of drugs and young women.

Added Kay, “We had to [convince] a few of the producers, because they were like, ‘Why don’t you just front load this, why are you parceling out over the season? Why are you keeping Harper’s revelation on the boat to the end of [Episode] 2? And we actually felt emotionally that those scenes were going to have way more impact the way we doled them out. I think Episode 6 is one of the more successful episodes of the season in terms of how it clicks everything into focus.”

One of the late story adjustments was deciding to put Harper (Myha’la) on the boat, which leads to her helping Yasmin. Abela loved what the episode revealed about Harper’s character, juxtaposed to the two characters blow-out fight at the end of the episode — Yasmin infuriated Harper used her at work for her own gain, knowing she was particularly vulnerable. The contradiction saying everything about how transactional relationships are on “Industry.”

“[Harper] would literally bury a body with her if she needed to,” said Abela, referencing Harper helping Yasmin after Charles jumps. “But if Yasmin asks her to forfeit her climbing the professional ranks, that’s where she draws the line. It’s insane, but that’s the way it is.”

History of Smolensk

Early history of smolensk.

The exact date of the foundation of Smolensk is not known. In “The Tale of Bygone Years”, a history of the Kievan Rus from about 850 to 1110, Smolensk was first mentioned as the center of the tribal union of the Krivichi under the year 862. In 882, it became part of the Kievan Rus.

In 1127, the Kiev prince Mstislav the Great gave Smolensk under the control of his son Rostislav Mstislavich. After the death of his father, Rostislav became a virtually independent prince and reigned in Smolensk until 1160, when he took the Kiev throne. Thus, the foundation of the independent Smolensk Principality was laid. On the eve of the Mongol invasion, it was one of the most powerful Russian principalities.

The time before the Mongol invasion was the heyday of Smolensk. It occupied an area of 115 hectares, on which there were about 8 thousand houses with a population of about 40 thousand people. In terms of the number of stone churches erected at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, Smolensk surpassed any other town in Rus. In 1229-1230, up to 32 thousand people died from the plague in Smolensk.

During the Mongol invasion, Smolensk was not damaged, but a lot of areas of the principality were devastated and Smolensk lost its significance. Its dependence on the Grand Duchy of Lithuania began to grow. In 1387, a plague took the lives of almost all the residents of Smolensk. For some time Smolensk remained deserted.

More Historical Facts…

Smolensk in the 15th - 19th centuries

For most of the 15th century, Smolensk was under the control of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. During the Russian-Lithuanian War of 1500-1503, the Russian army unsuccessfully besieged Smolensk in 1502. In 1508, Smolensk became the center of the Smolensk Voivodeship of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In the summer of 1514, after the third siege in a row, Russian troops were able to capture Smolensk. It became the most important fortress on the western border of the Russian state.

In 1609, taking advantage of the weakening of the Russian state during the Time of Troubles, the army of Sigismund III Vasa, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, began a siege of Smolensk. The siege lasted 20 months and eventually Smolensk was captured and became part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

This long defense of Smolensk played a decisive role on further events, since Sigismund, who spent all his money on it, was forced to disband his army instead of leading it further to Moscow. Thanks to this, the Moscow garrison of the Poles, which did not receive serious support, was subsequently forced to capitulate to the Russian militia.

In 1613-1617, an attempt to recapture Smolensk ended in vain for the Russian troops. In 1634, during the Smolensk War, the Russian army again laid siege to the town, but the appearance of an army under the command of King Ladislaus IV led to the fact that the Russian army itself was under siege and surrendered. In 1654, the Russian army approached Smolensk again. As a result, it was finally annexed to the Russian state. In 1708, it became the center of the Smolensk Governorate.

In 1811, the population of Smolensk was about 12,400 people. In August 1812, during the French invasion of Russia, the Smolensk Battle between the Russian army and the army of Napoleon took place near the walls of Smolensk, during which both sides lost more than 20 thousand people. The Russians retreated, and Napoleon captured the burning town. The restoration of Smolensk proceeded slowly. A new impetus to its development was given by the construction of the railways Riga - Orel (1868), Moscow - Brest-Litovsk (1870), as well as the Ryazan-Ural railway (1899).

According to the First General Census of the Russian Empire of 1897, 37,305 people called Russian as their native language in Smolensk (79.9% of the total population of the city), Jewish - 4,154 (8.9%), Polish - 3,012 (6.4%), Ukrainian - 979 (2.1%), German - 460, Belarusian - 323, Tatar - 185.

Smolensk in the 20th century and beyond

In 1900, there were more than 56 thousand residents in Smolensk; 10 squares, 139 streets, 3,261 buildings (633 stone buildings), 32 Orthodox churches, 1 Catholic and 1 Lutheran churches, 2 synagogues, and 3 monasteries. In 1912, the city celebrated the 100th anniversary of the war against Napoleon: a number of monuments to that war appeared in Smolensk, including the Alley of Heroes with busts of commanders.

In April 1918, in connection with the occupation of the Belarusian lands by German troops during the First World War, secured by the Brest Peace, the Smolensk Governorate became part of Zapadnaya (Western) Oblast, its administrative center was moved from Minsk to Smolensk.

On January 1, 1919, on its basis, the Socialist Soviet Republic of Belarus was formed. On January 7, the SSRB government moved from Smolensk to Minsk. On January 16, 1919, the Smolensk region was transferred to the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. In 1929, the Smolensk Governorate was abolished and Zapadnaya Oblast was formed with the center in Smolensk. In 1939, the population of Smolensk was 156,884 people.

In the spring of 1940, about 18 km from Smolensk, the Katyn massacre was carried out - a war crime, the massacres of Polish citizens, mostly captured officers of the Polish army. The executions were carried out by decision of the NKVD of the USSR in accordance with the decree of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks. A total of 21,857 people were shot.

From July 10 to September 10, 1941, during the Second World War, the Battle of Smolensk took place, which significantly delayed the advance of German troops to Moscow. On July 16, 1941, Smolensk was occupied by German troops. It was liberated from German occupation on September 25, 1943. More than 90% of buildings in the city were destroyed. In 1945, Smolensk was included in the list of 15 Russian cities subject to priority restoration.

On July 30, 1952, an expedition of the Moscow University under the leadership of D.A. Avdusin during excavations on Sobolev Street found the first birch bark letter in Smolensk. In the post-war years, especially in the 1960s and 1970s, a lot of industrial production facilities, educational institutions, healthcare and power engineering facilities were put into operation in Smolensk. On May 6, 1985, Smolensk was awarded the title of Hero City. In 1989, the population of the city was 341,483 people.

On April 10, 2010, while landing at Smolensk-Severny Airport, one of the largest disasters in the history of world aviation occurred, in which the political leaders of Poland, famous public and religious figures were killed (88 passengers and 8 crew members including the President of Poland Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria Kaczynska).

In September 2013, Smolensk celebrated its 1150th anniversary.

Smolensk - Features

There are several versions of the origin of the name of Smolensk. According to one of them, it goes back to the name of the Smolnya River. Another version mentions the famous trade route “from the Varangians to the Greeks.” Residents of the town were engaged in the production of resin (“smola” in Russian) used to give boats greater strength. The pine forests in the immediate vicinity of the town favored the construction of boats and the production of resin.

The origin of the coat of arms of Smolensk is not known for certain. It was first mentioned in 1664. On the silver shield you can see the Gamayun bird (a prophetic bird of Russian folklore) on a black cannon with a golden gun carriage. The cannon symbolizes the city’s rich military history, its crucial border position. The bird of paradise Gamayun is a symbol of happiness and striving for it, peace, and rebirth after wars.

Smolensk is located about 400 km west of Moscow, in the upper reaches of the Dnieper River. The city has an advantageous geographical position on the routes from Moscow to Belarus, the Baltic states, countries of Central and Western Europe. It stretches 25 km from west to east and 15 km from north to south.

In the history of Russia, Smolensk is known as the “city-shield”, “shield of Russia” and “city-key”. For many centuries, it served as a reliable defense of Moscow protecting it from attacks coming from the western borders of the country. The City Day of Smolensk is celebrated on September 25 - in memory of the liberation of the city from the Germans on September 25, 1943.

The climate in Smolensk is moderately continental, softened by the influence of the Atlantic Ocean. Smolensk has cool, mostly rainy summers and rather prolonged moderately cold winters. The average temperature in July is plus 17.8 degrees Celsius, in January - minus 6.2 degrees Celsius.

Smolensk is a major transport hub of western Russia. The main cargo and passenger flows from the countries of Western Europe, the Baltic States, and Belarus pass through it. The city has a developed rail and highway connection with Moscow and St. Petersburg. Trains run through Smolensk to Minsk, Brest, Vilnius, Kaliningrad, Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Paris, Nice.

There is no navigation on the Dnieper River. There are also no civil flights to Smolensk. The city’s public transport is represented by three most common types of land transport - buses, trolleybuses and trams.

Favorable geographical position at the intersection of transport routes connecting Moscow and Western Europe, proximity to large industrial centers of Russia and to the European sector of the world market are the main competitive advantages of Smolensk. The border position of the Smolensk region predetermines the possibility of intensifying cross-border cooperation.

Main Attractions of Smolensk

Smolensk Fortress Wall (1595-1602). The Smolensk fortress was of great defensive importance in the Russian state. Most of it was destroyed by the retreating troops of Emperor Napoleon I on November 17, 1812, during the French invasion of Russia. Only 18 towers and about 3.5 km of wall fragments have survived to this day and have the status of an architectural monument. Barklaya-De-Tolli Street, 7.

Assumption Cathedral - a magnificent cathedral located in the central part of Smolensk on Sobornaya (Cathedral) Hill. It was built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries in memory of the heroic defense of Smolensk in 1609-1611, on the site of the 12th century cathedral of the same name.

During the wars of 1812 and 1914-1945, the building was not damaged. The iconostasis and decoration in the Kiev baroque style have been preserved inside. The observation deck located here offers beautiful views of Smolensk and the Assumption Cathedral itself. Sobornyy Dvor Street, 5.

Bolshaya Sovetskaya Street - one of the most beautiful streets in Smolensk stretching from the bank of the Dnieper River through the historic center of Smolensk, past Sobornaya Hill with the Assumption Cathedral. On this street, wealthy townspeople built their mansions and tenement houses during the times of the Russian Empire.

Today, almost every house that has been preserved on Bolshaya Sovetskaya Street is an architectural “gem” worthy of special attention. Most of the residential and office buildings facing the main street are recognized as monuments of architecture and history. Some of the buildings destroyed during the Second World War have been carefully restored to their original form using photographs and archival documents.

Deer Sculpture in Blon’ye Garden . In 1909, in the vicinity of his hunting lodge in Rominten Forest, Kaiser Wilhelm II, the last German Emperor, shot a deer with unusually gorgeous antlers. The emperor liked this hunting trophy so much that he decided to immortalize it in bronze. For this, the then famous sculptor-animalist Richard Frize was invited. In 1910, a sculpture was installed on a pedestal near the chapel of St. Hubert. The resulting bronze deer turned out to be about one and a half times larger than the original animal.

In 1944, the sculpture disappeared. One year later, it was discovered by the Red Army at the country house of Hermann Goering. After the war, this bronze deer was transported to Smolensk. In 1945, on the side of the trophy, one could still read the white ink inscription: “A gift from East Prussia to the children of Smolensk.” The sculpture was installed in the playground in Blon’ye Garden, a park in the city center. Glinki Street, 1.

Monument “Grateful Russia to the Heroes of 1812” - one of the most famous monuments in Smolensk erected in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812 (the French invasion of Russia). It is made in the form of a rock about 10 meters high, on top of which two eagles protect their nest from the Gaul armed with a sword. The sculpture stands in the Heroes’ Memorial Park near the fortress wall. Dzerzhinskogo Street, 6.

Smolensk Art Gallery . This museum is located in the building, which is a monument of civil architecture of the 19th century. It displays collections of Russian and Western European art: paintings by Repin, Aivazovsky, Levitan, Benoit, Falk, Roerich, and other masters, as well as sculptures. There is also an extensive exposition of the Soviet period. Temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists are held here as well. Kommunisticheskaya Street, 4.

Historical Museum of Smolensk . The exhibitions of this museum are about the history of the Smolensk region from the Stone Age to the New Age. Here you can see ancient tools, medieval armor, weapons, coins, jewelry, household items, and much more. Lenina Street, 8.

Museum “Smolensk - the Shield of Russia” . It is open in Gromovaya (Thunder) Tower of the Smolensk fortress wall. The main part of the exhibition is devoted to the city’s military history. In 2002, an exhibition devoted to the construction of defensive structures was added. On the third tier of the tower there is a thematic exhibition “Soldier of 1812” consisting of outfits and weapons of the Russian and French armies of that time. Oktyabrskoy Revolyutsii Street, 3.

Museum “Smolensk Flax” . The history of the development of flax growing in the Smolensk region is presented in detail here (arable tools, tools for the cultivation and processing of flax, spinning wheels, Smolensk costumes with belts and headdresses). A separate part of the exposition is devoted to household items traditionally present in the Russian hut. The museum is located in Nikolskaya Tower of the Smolensk fortress wall. Marshala Zhukova Street, 6.

Sergey Konenkov Sculpture Museum . This famous Russian and Soviet sculptor born in the Smolensk region was often called “the Russian Rodin”. The museum was created on the initiative of the sculptor, who wished to exhibit most of his works in Smolensk. The collection is housed in a picturesque 19th century mansion in the city center. The exposition consists of 80 works on religious, revolutionary and everyday topics. Mayakovskogo Street, 7.

Museum “Smolensk Oblast during the Second World War” - one of the most visited museums in Smolensk located in the building of the former school “In Memory of 1812”. This two-story building in the neo-Russian style was erected in 1912, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812. It is stylized as fortress towers - with battlements and loopholes.

The exposition includes items and documents showing the role of Smolensk in the history of the war. The collection of military artifacts contains valuable archival documents and photographs, weapons and military uniforms, banners and awards, soldier’s household items and trophies from Germany. Wartime military equipment is on display in front of the museum. Dzerzhinskogo Street, 4A.

Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul (1146) - one of the three preserved monuments of pre-Mongol architecture in Smolensk located near the building of the railway station. The ascetic design of this building corresponds to the canons of church building adopted in Rus before the Mongol invasion. Kashena Street, 20. The Church of Archangel Michael (1191-1194), another well-preserved pre-Mongol church, is also noteworthy. Parkovaya Street, 2A.

Lopatinsky Garden - one of the oldest parks in Smolensk. The park was laid out by order of the governor Alexander Lopatin in 1874. Today, there are a lot of interesting things in the park: a pond and an embankment, a corner for lovers, an alley of peace, a section of the fortress wall with towers, art benches decorated with various figured lanterns, models of Smolensk architectural monuments, and much more. Lenina Street, 2A.

Historical and Architectural Complex “Teremok” in Flenovo . It is located southeast of Smolensk in the former estate of the Tenishev princes - collectors and patrons of art, who played an important role in the cultural life of Smolensk and Russia.

At the turn of the 19th - 20th centuries, Maria Tenisheva created an art center here, which later became known not only in Russia, but also in Europe. Tourists are invited on excursions to places visited by famous painters and musicians. The artists I. Repin and M. Vrubel worked here. It was visited by F. Chaliapin and I. Stravinsky. Above the portal of the church there is a mosaic made by Nicholas Roerich.

Memorial Complex “Katyn” - an international memorial to the victims of political repression located in the Katyn forest to the west of Smolensk. On the territory of the memorial there is a military cemetery, where 4,415 Polish prisoners of war are buried (mostly officers). Prisoners of the Kozelsk concentration camp, they were shot by officers of the NKVD of the USSR in the spring of 1940. Other burials include about 6.5 thousand victims of Stalinist repression of the 1930s and 500 Soviet prisoners of war executed by the German occupation forces in 1943.
