We all thought the Voodoo was going to be the apex of multi platform hybrids, but the Zulu stole the show! With stats like these, the industry just got taken to a new level of hybrid designs. :Length 12.7' :Width 35" :Weight 85lbs :Capacity 500 lbs  

So what is this new craft? 

I'm not real sure! Let's break it down.....

The Zulu takes the aggressive bow of the Wahoo kayak for conquering those choppy waters, power boat wakes, or launching from the surf.  With a little recess added to the deck, and a comfy deck pad is has a more cockpit feel. It's still sporting those accessory rails we all love, and snagged that big seat\casting platform from the Voodoo. Though arranged differently, it still has 5 micro power pole mounting positions across the stern like it's bigger brother. There are seemingly endless options such as motors, anchor poles, even an outboard motor. The Zulu received 2 great big hatches for storage, and hull access. The rear hatch was specifically given a size & shape to accommodate a battery. We can still see the attributes of a micro skiff, and a paddle board for getting into that skinny water to flats fish. Measuring 5in shorter, and 1in wider than the Voodoo, it increased capacity by 50lbs. That brings it to a 500lb capacity.  You'll hear big guys\gals, and weekenders rejoice over the extra capacity!  

Paddle, peddle, or power; recreation, camping, hunting, fishing, or exploring.  The Zulu is sure to get you there!

Pedal Drive & Rudder System

Kaku pulled out all the stops, and topped it all off with the addition of an optional pedal drive \ rudder steering system. They bost a smooth operation, and transition being deployed & retracted

The propeller style peddle drive drops through an opening in the forward deck, and is secured to a bracket allowing it's easy deployment & retraction. Models without the drive system have a large cover that doubles as a mounting location for a fish finder, and transducer.

The lever style steering is achieved with an HD cable that passes through the hull, and connects to the large alloy rudder mounted to the stern.

2023 Voodoo

Kaku’s Voodoo is the ultimate sight casting paddle craft. This Authentic Fishing Paddle Craft has a unique look and performance . Part Kayak, part paddle board, with some micro skiff qualities. The Kaku Voodoo is like a personal Deck Yak with Incredible Stability while maintaining good paddling efficiency . The performance of this paddle craft is lifted to an even higher level with the included Voodoo Chair unlike anything on the market today. The modified V hull designed with an aggressive bow to handle rough water with ease. A heavy rocker gives paddlers speed, and maneuverability, yet maintains stability for standing.  This gives the angler a higher vantage point for sight casting.

Model of a ‘Zulu’ Fishing Boat Ullapol Museum

In the late 1800s Scotland experienced a herring fishing boom. Herring was considered a delicacy in Europe and Russia and in great demand. Ullapool was one of many Scottish coastal ports and villages that became a hive of industry during the summer fishing season.

The first Zulu fishing boat was constructed in 1879 and the name comes from The Zulu War raging in South Africa at the time. Zulus quickly became very popular with fishermen because they were larger, stronger, and faster than previous types of fishing boats. Their design made them easier to control and the three sails allowed them to sail further out to sea and return swiftly to port.

Herring is a fatty fish and had to be landed and quickly cured in barrels with salt to prevent it from rotting.

By the late 1800s Scotland had the largest fishing industry in Europe and in 1913 there were over ten thousand boats involved in the Scottish herring industry. The herring industry gradually declined after World War One and no full-sized Zulus survive today afloat.

Unfortunately the Motors are on back order with Motor guide and they have not told me when i will get more. You can purchase the Zulu base model and wireless motor mount from us and get the motor from amazon or other online retailers. 

The Zulu IGuide is a GPS remote control kayak. Our fishing kayak with motor is fully outfitted with a quick release Motor Guide Xi3 55lb thrust Trolling motor with the upgraded Katana Prop, Motor Guide’s best performing weedless prop. This versatile set up gives you plenty of power, spot lock, and tracking without giving up much deck space. Comes with the Tomahawk rudder system. With the rudder system you can cruise with motor locked in forward and steer with the hand lever. Our motorized fishing kayaks do not come with a battery. We can offer recommendations for batteries just message us or you can choose whatever 12V battery you desire.
