We welcome you to Sun City Yacht Club.

The Sun City Yacht Club (SCYC) was formed in 1974 in the Two Rocks \ Yanchep region. Next year the club is celebrating its 50 th year since its foundation on November 11 th, 1974 by a group of dedicated sailors and businessmen.

Probably the best-known of those founding members was Alan Bond, the visionary who bought together the team that captured the America's Cup for Australia in 1983 when Australia II, representing the Royal Perth Yacht Club, beat the New York Yacht Club’s Liberty. Alan Bond originally planned to challenge for the America’s Cup from Two Rocks with Southern Cross, her trialing partner Gretel and Australia I training and competing off Two Rocks and Yanchep for the right to challenge for the Americas Cup. Although defeated by the Americans in the 1977 challenge and in 1980, Alan Bond challenged again in 1983 when Australia II won the Americas Cup.

For many years after 1974, the Two Rocks marina was a popular destination for international visiting yachts, many of whom were unable to pass under the bridges on the Swan River. The marina was also the first along the coast to have a Travel (Tami) Lift to get the large boats out of the water. The yacht club thrived in this period with frequent keel boat races and small catamaran races.

The Sun City Yacht Club now has a fleet of 20 dinghies in four different classes and a strong focus remains on introducing and training people, both junior and adult in the basics of sailing. The club is an accredited Yachting Australia Discover Sailing Centre.

New members are welcome - the club hosts regular Saturday dinghy sailing during summer, has an active social calendar, and provides opportunities for members to sail on keelboats.

Racing occurs throughout the year every second Sunday and most races are held in the gulf just off from the EYC itself. There are a number of club boats that can be reserved and used by members or visitors to the club. On occasion, special races are held some distance from the club and may entail a camp overnight- this may be on the west coast at Tantabiddi or in the gulf at Tamarisk, some 30 km south of Exmouth. The club could not survive and thrive without new members so anyone interested in the chance to sail a catamaran, whether as crew or skipper, should come along on race day for some good fun and sport! Bunbury Yacht Club

yacht clubs western australia

We are one of the oldest Yacht Clubs in Australia formed in 1882.

We are located in Cobblestone Drive Bunbury Western Australia.

The Club has the original King George V lease in the name of boat builder Frank William Pearce who rented the land for £3 a year and made his application to the Bunbury Harbour Board.

Over the years some historic records have been lost, some destroyed by fire when the building was destroyed in 1913.

In the early 1900's it was truly a yacht club with racing held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The scene changed over the years with numerous land fills and the train line over the Koombana Channel to service the port. This put serious height restrictions on what type of vessel could access the inlet and prevented yachts getting from the inlet to the ocean.

The club still has members with yachts but the club was forced to become more powerboat orientated.

The club over the last few years has installed a hardstand area for boat servicing, repaired all the old jetties and has self funded the installation of a floating jetty.

The club now has pens for 60 boats.

Welcome to Geographe Bay Yacht Club

Situated in Busselton in the south west of Western Australia, the Geographe Bay Yacht Club overlooks the vast expanse of sheltered water from which the club takes it's name.

It commands a superlative vantage point on the long stretch of sand for which Geographe Bay is renowned, and is only a short distance from the town centre. From the modern Clubhouse, you can take in the whole bay from Capel to Cape Naturaliste, including the famous 1.8 km Busselton Jetty.

Geographe Bay is an ideal body of water for sailing and has been the focal point of sailing in the South West for over 50 years, hosting large numbers of boats in regular club events and various State and National Titles.

In addition, Geographe Bay Race Week is held during the month of February and has boasted entries of up to 120 boats.  GBRW 2025 is scheduled to run from Saturday 15th Feb to Friday 21st Feb.

Geographe Bay Yacht Club boasts a recently featured article which appears on the Australian Sailing website.

WA Cruising Guide

← back to cruising section, western australian cruising guide version 5.4.

February 2023

The Western Australian Cruising Guide is regarded as the coastal cruising bible for WA, covering the coast from Darwin to Eucla, including the Christmas and Cocos Islands. This book is a definite “must have”, especially for cruising the Kimberley, with over 600 pages, 220 chartlets and many interesting colour photos. The main source of information for this guide is feedback from the hundreds of sailors who have shared their knowledge of this largely unexplored part of the coast.

The  5th edition, now in its fourth update (v5.4), was a major revision of the 4th edition published in 2014. It includes dozens of new diagrams and several hundred new items of information. The first part of the guide covers weather, tides, passage planning, communications, emergency services, marine animals and government departments. The second part contains specific pilotage information on many anchorages, showing suitable spots to anchor, dangers, the amount of protection, tidal information, places of interest, history of the area, and local contact details.

The guide is now available in two electronic formats, downloadable here without charge: o download your free copy of this invaluable resource: Click here to download pdf

The pdf file is about 70MB and the ePub file is about 140MB, so a reasonable internet connection is required for sensible download times. Once downloaded, you do not need an internet connection unless you want to use the live links in the document.

This will enable the guide to be read on almost any platform, including desktops (PC and Mac), laptops, tablets (iPad etc.), Android phones and iPhones.

Photocopies of the guide are available from Fremantle Sailing Club in an A4 lever-arch file. To buy one of these hardcopies contact FSC on:  08 9435 8800 or  [email protected]

Alternatively you can print out all or part of the guide yourself, in any format you want.

Version 5.4

The current edition is version 5.4(files are labelled 540).  It contains more than 150 changes and updates since version 5.3 was issued in March 2021. If you wish to be notified when the next version becomes available for download, send an email now to mailto:[email protected]

The changes and updates we make derive mostly from reports submitted by users of the guide. Anyone wishing to contribute further knowledge for the next version, whether by correcting errors or providing new information, is asked to email the editor at  mailto:[email protected]

Southern Ocean Sailing

Southern Ocean Sailing is based in Albany, on the south coast of Western Australia.

Our passion is sailing but more importantly introducing people to the wonders of the oceans.

Our "fleet" includes a Beneteau 40.7 First and our Recreational Skipper's Ticket craft.

We have experience sailing the oceans of the world. From the ice of Antarctica, around Cape Horn to the Northern Atlantic and all oceans between.

We deliver Yachts World Wide!

Our ocean knowledge provides for a terrific experience whether blue water sailing, coastal sailing or obtaining your Recreational Skipper's Ticket.

Mark is a walking encyclopaedia on how to handle a boat safely and how to make sure I keep myself and my passengers safe. He was very encouraging during the training session and the assessment. I was very nervous about getting my Skipper’s Ticket, but Mark made it feel like fun which helped me a lot.

SANDY AND RORY LAURENS, ALBANY

The Ocean and sailing has been part of our family for many years. What a pleasure it was to spend some time with a chap who has sailed the oceans of the world. Mark's story is amazing and what was fantastic was the way he was able to share his knowledge. I would recommend to anyone needing a Skippers Ticket to contact Southern Ocean Sailing. A wonderful day on the water!

JENNY RICKERBY, ALBANY

We found practical tips, based on Mark's extensive experience, extremely useful. A very thorough and informative test, presented in a professional, friendly and helpful (not intimidating) manner. We would recommend "Southern Ocean Sailing" to anyone wishing to obtain their RST.

Welcome To Perth Radio Sailing Club

Wa's premier radio sailing club, try a new tack in sailing..., latest news.

Despite all attempts by the weather gods to dampen spirits and stop the racing, both fleets managed 10 races with all participants filling their stomachs and enjoying a cold but convivial day of friendly competition

PRSC sailing at Jackadder features on a City of Stirling garbage truck!

Have you noticed how shore-bound skippers 'lean' in an attempt to feel at one with their boats?

With thanks to Mal for the great pic!

Recent press releases on radio sailing from Post May 11 and Sunday Times May 5 2024

The original format of skippers swapping boats for every race returned to Jackadder but using DF95s instead of the original IOM boats. All participants seemed to enjoy the convivial atmosphere and the challenge of racing a differently tuned boat, proving once more that skipper's skill is more important than boat tuning. This fact is even more pronounced given all boats are identical, unlike the IOMs where different hull designs could be construed as providing the difference in boat performance.

An impressive turnout with some new faces, old jokes, surprise winners, great food and overall good company

November 11th and 12th saw a field of 16 boats split into two fleets using HMS due to fluky wind conditions at Champion Lakes. Greg Torpy wins ahead of Sean Wallis and Adam Viney.

Three PRSC members competed in the 2023 DF95 State Championships with Justin McAullay achieving a very credible 4th position, Bruce Quail and Bruce Robins coming in 9th and 10th respectively out of a total field of 18. The event was won by Nick Jerwood of Wanderers

What causes a yacht to 'fall over' in the water? Loss of keel bulb perhaps? Something more sinister?

With an outstanding turnout on the day of 15 IOMs and 13 DF95s the day was a huge testament to how well thought of Brent was in this and other clubs, a valuable member who is sorely missed. Brent was innovative, always willing to assist or offer advise to those willing to learn and although he was the Club Champion in 2022, he was more interested in having fun and socialising than the competitive side of sailing.
