Biscayne Bay is a vast 35-mile long lagoon between Miami mainland and the barrier island of Miami Beach and south to Biscayne National Park marine sanctuary at Elliott Key. Ideal for sport fishing, boating, scuba diving and other recreational activities, including boat tours of the private islands that are home to many celebrities and uber-wealthy of the world. Fisher Island is only accessible by ferry or private boat to residents, hotel guests and members only. An interesting historical fact: In 1925, William K. Vanderbilt traded his 250-ft. yacht for the 7-acre barrier island owned by Carl G. Fisher! Another private island located in Biscayne Bay, is the 86-acre man-made Star Island enclave of celebrity homes. This island, accessible via a causeway from mainland Miami, is gated and secured for privacy. Tour boats offer glimpses of the luxury lifestyle of these secluded residences.

Bayside Marketplace is a bi-level open-air festival center on Biscayne Bay in the “heart” of Miami’s downtown area and the #1 tourist attraction in Miami. Visitors can experience the international character of Miami, with its variety of cuisines, fine shops, free live music performances and diverse culture. One can take the Water Taxi Miami service from Bayside to Miami Beach Marina, Key Biscayne, Coconut Grove and other destinations. Miami Beach Marina is located at the southernmost point of South Beach; 400 slips accommodate luxury charter yachts to dive boats. Onsite restaurants are Texas De Brazil and Monty’s Raw Bar. Smith & Wollensky steakhouse is nearby, with breathtaking views of Fisher Island and cruising yachts. Crandon Marina is located on Key Biscayne and is an easy distance to artificial and natural reefs for great scuba diving and fishing. Its docks offer a perfect view of the bay and city skyline at sunset. Bill Bird Marina in Haulover Park on North Miami Beach is located on the AICW for convenient access to other waterways and is surrounded by a golf course! Pelican Harbour Marina in North Bay Village in the Miami Shores area is also on the AICW and is a 10-acre bird sanctuary island with picnic tables, BBQs and sand volleyball courts. South Dade Marinas include Matheson Hammock Marina in Coral Gables and Herbert Hoover Marina in Homestead Bayfront Park. Black Point Marina in Cutler Bay (southern stretch of Biscayne Bay) is the gateway to the Florida Keys near coral reefs and the marine sanctuary.

The Progressive Miami International Boat Show is slated to be held again at the Miami Marine Stadium Park & Basin on Rickenbacker Causeway in Key Biscayne this February. Selecting a Yacht Broker

Making an offer

After days, months, or even years of searching for the perfect yacht, now it’s time to make an offer. We will draw up a purchase offer agreement on your behalf to buy the yacht. At the time the offer is submitted, the buyer normally wires 10% of the offer price to the selling broker’s escrow account, much like when purchasing a home. This is showing the owner of the yacht that you are a serious buyer.

In our years of experience, we have seen acceptance, rejection, and counter-offers. Don’t get discouraged, as it can normally take a few weeks before both parties agree on a sale price and conditions.

Pre-purchase survey

A pre-purchase survey can take about 1 to 2 weeks and is provided and paid for by the buyer. It is a detailed inspection of the vessel’s structure, mechanical, electrical, operating condition, and performance. A detailed report is prepared and includes an equipment list and detailed list of deficiencies, market value, and an estimate of maintenance costs for the coming years.

Now it is time for you, “The Buyer,” to test run the yacht for a few hours at the owner’s expense. It is a good way to check the engine performance at maximum speed. It is also good to check for noises, unusual sounds, crew steps, yacht swings, and if available, try all toys and accessories.

Closing Procedures

If all goes well in steps 5 and 6, the Buyer will write a letter of acceptance of the yacht. The Buyer needs to make sure to complete the deal before closing date so that the 10% down payment sitting in the escrow is not at risk. Upon closing on a yacht, both owner and buyer sign proper documents that

transfer ownership of the yacht. The Advantaged will assist the buyer with the new registration and insurance information as needed. We will assure that it’s a smooth transition.

After the Sale

Crew cost varies ; you may need a captain, a mate, and crew on either a seasonal or day-to-day basis, and don’t forget about a cleaning crew. Everyone who buys a yacht has different needs. Making an offer & sealing the deal together

Once you’ve found the right yacht it will be time to present an offer to your broker who will then prepare a sales agreement laying out the timing of the Survey, Sea Trial, Acceptance & Closing. With your offer, it is customary to deposit 10% of the offered purchase price into escrow. Your broker will now present the offer to the seller who will either accept, reject or make a counter offer.

Yachts are intricate sea going machines. Upon a fully accepted offer, your boat broker will assist you in scheduling the surveys, out of water inspection and sea trial. It is important to conduct a survey to determine the condition of the vessel and any potential work needed and also obtain the cost of repairs if needed.

After a Survey and Sea Trial it is now time to submit a written Acceptance of Vessel. The Acceptance could include any deficiencies that may be found and allows arrangements to be made pertaining to possible repairs to be completed by the seller as an agreement to move to closing.
