AHPO: the new 115m gigayacht by Lürssen enchanted Monaco

115 meter yacht

AHPO is a vision of Paradise, but “What suggests paradise? Is it spending quality time with your family, being entertained in luxurious surroundings, or relaxing in guaranteed privacy? On Ahpo , you don’t have to choose. Across the length of her 115 metres, Ahpo delights and surprises with her stylish interior and innovative spaces, while fulfilling the traditionally paradoxical needs of both intimacy and conviviality” – with these explanation German shipyard Lürssen has introduced the new gigayacht to the market on the occasion of the Monaco Yacht Show 2022.

115 meter yacht

For the most curious, APHO means “grandmother” in Chinese. Moran Yacht & Ship supervised the build on behalf of the owner with whom they have a longstanding relationship. If you are wondering who the owner is, just google it and you’ll get lots of news about it.

When stepping aboard from one of her two custom limo tenders, exterior and interior designers Nuvolari Lennard had a very simple objective: perfection. With her timeless, elegant bow and graceful superstructure sweeping aft, she fulfils the brief.

115 meter yacht

“For Lürssen, the task was to build a motor yacht for a repeat client, an upgrade from his 86-metre Lürssen, who had many years of owning and chartering different types of yachts behind him,” says Peter Lürssen. “He required top-notch design and engineering as well as seagoing comfort for his family, guests and crew. The launch of Ahpo is testament to the excellent team of builders, designers and engineers we have at Lürssen and the strong relationship with the client. Lürssen prides itself on meeting challenges and this one was no different!”

The early brief for the interior was to link all the elements of nature, harmoniously balanced throughout the yacht with a clear drive towards rich over opulent.

The 205-metre square wellness area on the lower deck is a fitting first place that many that will step aboard into. A large bamboo grove encased in backlit frosted glass forms a stunning backdrop to a stylish bar on one side and a luxurious massage room on the other. In contrast to this zen atmosphere is an explosion of coloured mosaic tiles which make up the hammam and day head as well as the Jacuzzi and plunge pool.

115 meter yacht

Further forward is a luxurious 12-seater cinema and just down the hall is one of the yacht’s most pleasantly surprising areas: a glass walkway through the engine room. This futuristic addition allows the owners and guests to view the impressive engines and mechanical spaces from above whenever they like.

115 meter yacht

On the main deck a large conference room boasts as its centrepiece a beautiful custom table with an antique map of Jamaica engraved in bronze and surrounded by deep blue resin, sitting underneath an eye-catching crystal chandelier.

115 meter yacht

Sliding doors open to reveal the main salon, an elegant, formal space with a self-playing Steinway piano. Further forward, another set of doors open up into the formal dining room.

Having these three distinct yet connected areas together on the same deck means that as well as somewhere to relax and unwind, Ahpo is also a functional working environment and crucially one where business and pleasure can co-exist without crossing paths.

The centre of the yacht is dominated by a grand staircase, accessible at all guest levels. The staircase itself represents a path and depicts an olive tree that grows up to the sky, surrounded by cranes. A striking crystal sculpture hangs from the ceiling, composed of falling feathers, each built by hand. The accent marbles change on each deck, acting as a subtle map of Blu Onyx, Green J’adore and Grey Lilac, with the floor always Calacatta Borghini with White Onyx for the petals, complemented by a bronze balustrade.

The owner’s deck takes on a different theme to the formality of the deck below. The informal salon is contemporary and convivial, with a colourful interpretation of the universe in the carpet and a striking latticed wood pattern running throughout. On the aft deck, an enormous custom 16-seater dining table stands proud within a winter garden that can be completely open or closed to the elements thanks to a complex set of sliding and folding glass doors.

On the upper deck is the 8-metre-long swimming pool, which also boasts a counter-current system. There is a self-contained Jacuzzi on one side of the pool, with large sun pad seating flanking the other side. A large bar and relaxed low-level seating make this area a clear favourite for informal family days. Also on this deck is the large gym with multiple machines and pieces of equipment and stunning views out over the water on both sides.

On the bridge deck, the aft deck has been left unencumbered, making it a completely flexible area. Open to the sun, it can also be protected by removable fabric shades. Moveable furniture and sun loungers fill the space or it can be left open as both a sunrise yoga platform and midnight dance floor, making Ahpo a one stop shop for the perfect day in paradise. Forward on this deck is the bridge: unusual to have this high up, it provides the crew with unparalleled views for manoeuvring the 115-metre-long, 18-metre-wide yacht. Designed more like a guest space than a traditional crew area with premium woods and leathers, it is smart and high tech.  The unique location also means the ship’s office and captain’s cabin can be together and away from the guest areas, and enables perhaps Ahpo’s most standout, innovative feature: the duplex owner’s apartment on the decks below.

The owner’s apartment is made up of a large 245 m 2 master cabin on the owner’s deck and a 95 m 2 panoramic salon on the upper deck, joined together by a private interior staircase. The owner’s cabin is spacious yet cosy, providing ample privacy from the outside world. The deck space for this room is similarly private: a semi-circle sofa and coffee table face out to sea on recessed balconies on each side, cocooned into a quiet corner thanks to glass bulwarks. On the inside, his-and-hers bathrooms and dressing rooms boast ornate mosaic patterns and bold marbles. His bathroom and dressing room is a combination of honey onyx and black Portoro marble with a stunning mosaic wall in the shower inspired by Klimt paintings. In her bathroom and dressing room, the main colour is pink with a cherry tree theme with elegant blossoms and birds. In both bathrooms, there are two impressive freestanding tubs and custom crystal chandeliers, and a focus on Venetian glass from Murano including furniture decorated with a cast glass frame.

The panoramic salon enjoys 180-degree views over the bow. Two custom desks flank each end of the room, turning the space into a private office if so desired, away from the master cabin. “The owners are extremely happy with this solution, it suits their lifestyle very well,” says Carlo Nuvolari. “It was an unusual design idea to have a duplex space but they are very happy with the outcome.” The salon has access to the foredeck and helicopter pad, which is positioned halfway between the owner’s and upper decks. There is a forward dining and lounging area that is inset and raised slightly above the bow, ensuring better views and protection than tradition layouts, and meaning any guests arriving by helicopter do not see through into the master cabin.

Aside from the master cabin there are seven guest cabins on board, with two on the owner’s deck, four on the main deck and one on the lower deck. The two cabins on the owner’s deck are designated for specific family members and enjoy their own colour themes of pink and green, chosen by the family to distinguish the two. Gingko leaves make up the main inspiration behind the design in these two cabins with both enjoying the same roll top style baths as in the master cabin bathrooms. The large cabins on the main deck are similarly appointed and enjoy the view from the iconic semi-circle windows.

The crew areas on board are spacious and well-designed, a key request from the owner. There are 37 crew on board Ahpo and the crew spaces have been designed to give maximum privacy, including a large crew mess, a separate crew lounge and a private crew gym. There is also a hospital room down in the tank deck. In the engine room, twin MTU 20V 4000 M73 engines propel the yacht to speeds of 18 knots and for up to 7,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. Efficiency and the desire to be as green as possible was a big drive behind the engineering on board, and the yacht is equipped with a state-of-the-art exhaust after-treatment system that reduces nitrogen oxide levels and generates less noise and vibration. Similarly, every diesel generating set is equipped with an additional heat exchanger, which is used to heat up an extra heat cycle connecting the pool, Jacuzzi and service water systems. This helps to reduce any thermal energy loss by repurposing it and reduces the need for electric heating systems elsewhere on board.

Lürssen concludes “Paradise is subjective, but when there is so much thought and design put into each space that means everyone is able to enjoy themselves on board in their preferred way, then it is hard to argue that paradise hasn’t been found on a yacht such as Ahpo “.

Ahpo, the 115-meter superyacht is for sale

115 meter yacht

M/Y AHPO is listed for 330 million Euros with yacht brokerage Moran Yacht & Ship, who also negotiated, sold and managed the build on behalf of her owner.

AHPO will be on display at the 2023 Miami International Boat Show, running from February 15th – 19th at IGY Yacht Haven Grande at Island Gardens and will be the largest yacht ever exhibited at a North American boat show.

115 meter yacht

Commissioned by an experienced and knowledgeable owner, the 115-metre Lurssen yacht was delivered in 2021 . AHPO is the second yacht that the team at Moran Yacht & Ship have built for the owner over a long productive relationship.

Ahpo can accommodate 16 guests across eight staterooms . She has a further four staff cabins for pilots, a nanny, or bodyguards and is attended to by a professional full-time crew of 36 .

115 meter yacht

Moran Yacht & Ship broker, Kevin Callahan , said that M/Y AHPO is a one-of-a-kind yacht with incredible build quality and meticulous attention to detail throughout. “The thought that went into her design and layout, along with the sheer number of materials used throughout, is incredible, ” Callahan enthused. “The yacht’s guest amenities are world-class, from her full-service spa and beauty room to her gorgeous beach club and full-beam gym, one of the best gyms ever put on a yacht.”

He added: “She will appeal to an active owner or larger family as she has been purposefully designed to maximize family life and time spent on the water. Building a similar vessel would take around five years, so this is an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire an almost new superyacht – with the major machinery still under warranty – that is truly unmatched.”

Exterior & Interior Design

AHPO’s exterior and interior design is by Nuvolari Lenard , a prominent Italian luxury yacht design firm. One of the most striking exterior features of M/Y AHPO is her elegant half-moon windows and crisp white hull contrasted by sweeping stripes of black.

ahpo hammam

Her interiors are designed with elegance and comfort in mind, with soft-toned and contemporary style furnishings throughout. Natural lines and organic patterns create harmonious spaces that encourage relaxation and foster a connection with nature.

Her many features include a fully commercial helipad, a penthouse-inspired two-storey owner’s suite, an eight-metre swimming pool, several Jacuzzis, a 12-seat cinema with LED star-studded ceilings, and a large winter garden on the aft deck that can be completely open or closed. Her garage is filled with just about every water toy you can think of, along with five supporting tenders, including two 12-metre one-off tenders from I.C. Yachts.

115 meter yacht

M/Y AHPO boasts cutting-edge technology and engineering systems, including dynamic positioning for electronic anchoring, zero-speed stabilizers, and Low E glass and heat recovery systems to reduce power consumption and ultimately the amount of emissions generated.

According to Callahan, AHPO has proved a popular charter vessel and was well received during her first Mediterranean charter season, with charter destinations, including the French Riviera, Spain, Italy, Sardinia, Corsica, Greece, and Turkey. She has also cruised extensively around the Caribbean, including Jamaica.

The success of her inaugural Mediterranean charter season proved that her operational costs can be significantly offset without difficulty.

White Coral (115m) // Mulder Design

The dutch design studio mulder design created the 115m concept white coral..

Example: Consider Mulder’s creation, White Coral, a remarkable, ethereal 115-meter yacht that successfully embodies a uniquely contemporary look yet is utterly timeless. It is equipped with all the amenities typically found in a 100-meter or larger luxury yacht, such as a vast beach club, a modern helideck, and a calm, soothing design both inside and out.

“When we started this project a couple of years ago, we wanted to do a larger yacht as typically our projects range up to 60 metres,” begins Bas Mulder, owner at Mulder Design. “We decided to really show what we can do so settled on 115 metres, and from there we took a rough idea, developed and expanded the concept, and produced some sketches which we showed at the Monaco Yacht Show.”

The first drawings attracted a lot of attention, including from a specific customer who requested to view additional design examples. “So we started deeper development of the concept and extended that into full 3D renders; we did some basic calculations to centre the concept in reality, and came up with lots of exciting ideas to play with,” Mulder continues . “We didn’t work on a full general arrangement although we did create the block plan to define the spaces needed for guests, crew, accommodation and technical areas; but we wanted to show that far from being just technical designers, we can offer our skills and experience of creating stunning exterior designs at any size of yacht that consider interior demands and thereby perfectly fuse function and form.”

115m Yacht White Coral Mulder Design. Luxury yacht sailing on calm ocean.

Her name reflects the combination of purpose and aesthetics, along with tranquility and a deep connection to the sea. Created in the ocean’s depths by organisms known as coral polyps, white coral is a natural treasure recognized in ancient astrology. It is believed to bring wealth, mental serenity, robust determination, and prosperous offspring, encapsulating the core of the White Coral initiative and the skills and ambition of its creators.

Central to the White Coral initiative is its outer appearance, which is simultaneously bold and alluring.

“At Mulder Design, there’s a core ethos we apply to everything we do,” Mulder asserts, “which is to create a long-lasting, timeless design rather than something that can be identified by a particular era or fashion. The key for us is always to have long, elegant and simple lines, then enhance them without adding too many fussy details which most of the time merely distract the eye. People,” Mulder adds , “like classic proportions, and they have certain expectations. Our exterior designs aim to meet those classic proportions, then exceed those expectations.”

115m Yacht White Coral Mulder Design. Luxury yacht sailing on clear blue water

The foundation of the Mulder Design philosophy is deeply embedded in rich tradition and functionality. This is evident in the makeup of the Mulder team, which includes naval architects and engineers. This leads to a comprehensive approach to naval architecture and design spanning projects up to 60 meters long. Their expertise in engineering informs their exterior design work on bigger yachts.

The White Coral’s stunning design features a robust forward-leaning posture and smooth, luxurious, finely detailed lines. The upward curve of the aft design line connects each deck aft, forming a sophisticated mix of geometric forms.

115m Yacht White Coral Mulder Design. Luxury yacht sailing on clear blue water

White Coral demonstrates the Mulder team’s skill in integrating appealing elements that require specialized knowledge to bring to life. For instance, the yacht boasts a sizable main deck pool on top of an 18-meter by 8-meter beach club, equipped with doors that can be opened to form expansive terraces by the sea. Further down the yacht, the front end includes an ultimately approved helipad and a bow helicopter hangar, which the Mulder team has successfully implemented in past projects. This experience has equipped them with the necessary engineering know-how and design background to ensure the yacht’s features are both functional and practical.

The A Group Announces 115m Explorer Concept APEX

By Freya Cottrell

The newest collaborative project between The A Group and Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven was announced during the Monaco Yacht Show this year, based on the concept ‘without limits’. This extraordinary motto has been the inception of an impressive full custom 115m yacht concept, Project APEX. An explorer yacht that emulates the true meaning of explorer; no area is too remote or too rough for APEX.

The exterior of the full custom 115m explorer yacht concept, Project APEX , was developed by the Monaco based design studio The A Group who worked in collaboration with Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven. Lloyd Werft, who made headlines earlier this year for the momentous delivery of 140m Project Solaris, has seen its large yacht-building capabilities taken to new creative heights on this remarkable collaboration. The interior of the vessel will be completely customisable as per the owners request.

“APEX meets the demand of today's customers for stable, spacious and at the same time extremely robust yachts par excellence ” comments André Stegmann, Senior Project Manager at Lloyd Werft. “ The bow, which is almost four decks high, can cope with the heaviest weather and is also ice-going .”

The ship-like bow is designed to ensure safety and comfort for the guests on board even in adverse weather conditions out at sea. However, it is not the only impressive feature of the explorer yacht. The large open areas towards the stern of the motor yacht create space for two 20m long tenders to be parked alongside the superstructure. Alongside this, there is always room for a further mode of transport should guests need to get further afield. Underneath the fully certified heli-pad there is a hanger in which to store a helicopter securely even whilst the vessel is underway.

Inside the motor yacht's impressive 115-metres is accommodation for up to 22 guests and 48 crew members. Guests sleep on the upper or main deck whilst an entire deck is given over to the owner. The owner’s deck includes access to dressing rooms, bathrooms, an office and a lounge with private access to the 12m infinity pool. There is also a spa, a gym, a massage room and an infirmary all located at waterline level for an impressive view of the water, plus, a cinema and entertainment room on the main deck. The APEX also offers two salons and an incredibly spacious dining room that can serve 26 guests.

"APEX meets the demand of today's customers for stable, spacious and at the same time extremely robust yachts." André Stegmann, Senior Project Manager at Lloyd Werft

Looking at the design and it is evident the yacht is proposed to carry large tenders and toys and take them anywhere. With a suggested range of 9,000 nautical miles there is really nowhere this design could not take you. The bow has been designed to take on big seas while allowing for ice capability. The aft deck can take up to two 20-meter tenders as the rendering suggests; a sailboat and an express cruiser. The interior will have massive volumes thanks to an estimated 8,000 GT and 18.5-meter beam.

115 meter yacht

Up to 48 crew members can be accommodated to serve as many as 22 guests. Guest accommodation ranges in size and is located between the Main Deck and the Upper Decks. This yacht is large and as a result of the proposed guest count will have large capacity venues. An upper deck saloon features a table that can seat up to 26 persons at once. A large infinity pool sits on the aft upperdeck straddled by the two main tenders just below on either side. Several large shell-doors in the hull conceal further tender storage but also open up prime superyacht venues like massage, spa and gym and beach club facilities. A large helipad on the aft with a hangar exists on the aft end of the vessel. With a bow that rises 4 decks above the waterline creating reassuring protection to six decks for guests to be able to peruse her 8,000 GT interiors, this world-trotting explorer design is ready for the right client to sign the dotted-line.
