  1. Cruisers vs. Catamarans: What is Right for For You?

Cruiser vs. Catamaran. A cruiser is a monohull—a vessel with one capsule to accommodate passengers. Catamaran, on the other hand, has two hulls. Between these hulls lies the middle of the boat. The front netting and cockpit occupy the middle part of the boat. The last few years have seen an increase in the popularity of catamarans.

  2. Catamarans Vs. Monohulls: Choosing The Right Boat

Attach one line to each of the forward cleats and bring the loose ends to the center. Pick up the mooring with a boathook. String one line through the eye and bring it back to the same cleat. Repeat on the other side, keeping the lines the same length so the cat is centered.

  3. Catamaran vs. Monohull: We Changed, Should You?

    7. Shallow Draft Equals Better Anchorages. Catamarans have significantly shallower drafts than monohulls, allowing for safer anchorages closer to shore. Most catamarans in the 40-ft to 50-ft range draw between 3-ft to 4.5-ft, so they can anchor in places that a monohulls can not even consider.

  10. Monohulls or Catamarans

One of the most significant decision points when thinking about catamarans versus monohulls is your budget. If your budget is under $100,000, a monohull will be your best bet. If your budget is between $100,000 and $250,000, you can consider a smaller, older catamaran. Catamarans such as PDQs, Prouts, and Geminis will be in your budget.

  12. Power Catamarans vs Sail Catamarans, What's the Right Choice For You?

Sail catamarans have many benefits that make them wonderful boats. Sailboats are better if you want to follow the sun or do longer range cruising. 14. Monohull or multihull: which is best for blue water?

Multihulls can be relatively quick in the right offwind conditions, but if they are heavily laden - as they will be for blue water cruising - there really is no significant speed advantage. The Gunboat 66 Phaedo 1 piles on the speed, but for blue water cruisers, comfort and stowage is more important than pace.

  15. Catamaran vs Monohull: The Great Sailboat Debate

Catamaran vs. monohull power. A monohull under auxiliary power may be faster than a catamaran in certain conditions, like powering against a strong wind. In other wind and wave conditions, the catamaran is often faster. Also, with an engines on each hull, the cat is often much more maneuverable in close quarters or at the marina.

The Lagoon 380 became one of the most popular cats ever, with nearly 1,000 hulls being produced over a 20-year run. On most points of sail a sailing cat will be faster, maybe much faster than an equivalent length monohull.

  22. Catamaran VS Trimaran

As a recent multihull convert, I will put my 2 cents in. From what I have gathered, tri's sail faster, but a bit less flat than a cat. Interior space is far more on a cat with a bridge deck. (Our Piver tri has a 6'6" beam on a 37' main hull) Later model cats are far more available than late model tris.

  23. Dinghy RIB vs Catamaran

Location: Southport CT. Boat: Sabre 402. Posts: 2,826. Re: Dinghy RIB vs Catamaran. The design of both the Takacat and Aircat look like they'd be vulnerable to getting swamped in oncoming waves. They don't have as much bouyancy forward as a standard RIB-type design with a tube running around or across the bow.
