This review is for an employee that was very rude to me. I think her name was Lauren. I believe she's new at the front desk. She told me that a party that I wanted to go to, the Tiki party was booked and I couldn't get in. However, that same day a friend of mine and her husband got into the party. I'm wondering what happened. When I asked Lauren about it, she was very rude and shortly said she was sorry. I pay a lot of money to be a member and didn't appreciate the way I was treated by her. She needs to go into another line of work where she doesn't deal with people!

This is a very lovely private club venue with a charming, subtle view of San Francisco across the water. Unfortunately, the restaurant is at sea level so diners must look through the yachts to enjoy the view. The second floor dining room view that the Golden Gate Club offers is more captivating. The indoor dining room is elegantly appointed with sailing photos and some excellent paintings on the walls. There is a magnificently hand-sewn quilt depicting sailing scenes from the area and I feel it is a big mistake to have relegated this masterpiece to the ladies' powder. The porch dining is casual and lots of shade is provided. The food and drinks were very good. There are some rather original items on the menu, for example, tacos topped with fried eggs!! The burrata was quite good but not the best I have had. The interior of the mozzarella was not as creamy as it should be. Portions are ample and the bread basket contained a variety of tasty baked items . The butter was served in little balls which is a nice touch. Parking is convenient and the lot is spacious. I cannot comment on cost as we were guests and no check appeared on the table. I was disappointed to have read Phoebe's post that the venue refuses reciprocity. Shame on them if that is true.

wonderful location and premises. OK food. Bartenders are great, waiters are hit and miss.

Funny that a yacht club named San Francisco Yacht Club is located across the bay in Tiburon. But this club is actually the oldest club in the Bay and the predecessor to the St. Francis Yacht Club, which IS located in San Francisco. SFYC is a charming contrast to St.FYC in that the club house is a low-key single story building with casual almost residental-like layout. Indeed, it's located in a residential neighborhood so it had to blend in with the million dollar houses surrounding the club. I enjoy arriving at SFYC early on regatta weekends and have a full breakfast on the patio and enjoy the warm morning sun before the pre-regatta hussle begins. It's very casual, friendly and has easy access and parking in contrast to the more downtown location of Corinthian YC down the road. Food is very good, wait staff is friendly. I particularly like to have a cup of coffee there on Sunday mornings sitting by the docks in the sun, the air is fresh, breakfast is good and just enjoy the calm and size out the competitors before the race. The only down side is the shower facilities are a little cramped given the size of the club, but workable. Walking to down town is a wee bit of a hike from SFYC but not terribly stressful. It's nice to check out the neighborhood and local color while walking. The other bonus is there's easy access to grocery and other stores for quick provisioning if you are without transport other than boat.

If you're not a member then you can't come here unless you're with a member. So we had a couple of drinks after the Giants game and wow... ordered almost 12 drinks and the tab was only $30. I was told that this isn't your "ordinary bar" and were they right. The patrons and staff are super friendly as well.. great views.. stiff drinks.. maybe I should be a member....

The views here are really spectacular, the patrons are a little snobbish. Staff were nice and friendly, a little abrupt with us at times, but we were a group of 20 ish people and so I imagine it wasn't the best crowd to service on a football sunday. Bar tender wasn't experienced in drinks which is disappointing, and the chef made a decision to serve me a burnt english muffin with my eggs benedict, which is really a shame when you consider the price; it doesn't take that long to re do it, and yes, you think the egg will hide it, but that shouldn't be an excuse for serving burnt food. I would have said something about it if someone had made it round to check on me. Also, it never ceases to amaze me when restaurants carry just one or two hot sauces, you have so many dishes, with so many different ways to customers to compliment them! Diversify. Please.

Disappointed in the decision to serve a burnt English muffin assuming it wouldn't be seen owing to the eggs florentine.

A private club that offers a nice dining experience. They also rotate the food on the menu so if you go here often it's not always the same.

Bread and butter while you wait for your food.

San Francisco Yacht Club

Founded in 1869, the San Francisco Yacht Club is the oldest yacht club on the West Coast and the first yacht club west of the Mississippi. Today, more than 150 years and several newer locations later, SFYC is nestled on the shore of Belvedere Cove and remains rooted in its deep maritime history. The San Francisco Yacht Club is one of the leading yacht clubs in North America. Known for its sublime setting, superb harbor and community of members dedicated to life on the water, The SFYC operates year-round. The Club’s facilities include docks, a dry-sail area, a Clubhouse, Regatta Center and Cove House, completed in 2020.

The SFYC Auxiliary, comprised of female members, is proud of its 68 years of service to the San Francisco Yacht Club. Founded in 1953, this group provides social opportunities for members and their families, and facilitates fundraising activities to benefit youth sailing and other projects.

Stories from San Francisco Yacht Club

The original anchorage and clubhouse were located in San Francisco near Mission Rock, but inadequate depth of water and increasing industrial growth in the area resulted in a move to Sausalito. Waterfront property was purchased and a new clubhouse erected, but it was subsequently destroyed by fire in 1897.

Increasing ferry traffic and congestion contributed to a decision to move again in 1926. One group, headed by Commodore Clifford Smith, felt that Belvedere Cove would be an ideal location. Another group felt that the Club should move back to San Francisco and lease land from the city on the marina. After considerable discussion, the Belvedere site was finally selected. Those who opposed the move resigned and formed the St. Francis Yacht Club. A small clubhouse on the Belvedere site was completed in 1934 and is still part of the present building.

Planning for the present harbor began in 1933 and completed in 1957, when funds were available. The San Francisco Yacht Club, with its tranquil setting in Belvedere Cove and its superb harbor, is widely recognized as the premier yachting facility on the West Coast. It operates a year-round facility including the harbor, a dry sail area, a full-service restaurant and bar.

The Club has a very active junior sailing program and all members, whether they own boats or not, are committed to the Corinthian traditions of yachting.

Belvedere Classic Yacht Regatta Attracts ‘Eye Candy’ Fleet

John Skoriak enjoyed some rousing sailing aboard the Matthew Turner for the annual Belvedere Classic Yacht Regatta, held out of San Francisco Yacht Club on Saturday. He sent us this report.

Let’s face it, when it comes to yacht racing, we can never get enough of classic sailboat regattas. Watching a 75-year-old schooner or ketch glide across the Bay — varnish gleaming, paint sparkling, and sails billowing — is the nautical version of “eye candy.” And now, thanks to San Francisco Yacht Club’s Belvedere Classic, which joins the Master Mariners and Jessica Cup in an exciting lineup of annual classic boat races, we can look forward to seeing more of the best of these wonderful classic yachts back on the Bay.

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID and related issues, the return of the Great San Francisco Schooner Race and Belvedere Classic is a welcome addition to any classic yacht aficionado’s calendar. This year, race chairman John Swain and the SFYC worked hard to get 15 boats signed up and on the starting line. The regatta featured not only schooners, but also ketches, yawls, and even a “guest appearance” by Call of the Sea’s brigantine Matthew Turner .

Belvedere Classics at SFYC docks

The regatta was a mirror of previous races under the banner of the Great San Francisco Schooner Race. Call of the Sea’s schooner Seaward , Brigadoon , and even the schooner Freda B would battle it out for line honors. Not all boats made it to the start line, or finished, but considering it was post-COVID, with all the uncertainty involved, it was a respectable start. And this year with the addition of sloops, ketches and yawls to the Belvedere Cup lineup, there were plenty of boats to root for.

Despite the forecast of a hot day (which it was), the wind filled in early, and the fleet got a strong breeze that gave the boats and their crews what they’d come looking for.

Sequester in Belvedere Classic

Back at the docks after the race, there were lots of stories about spray over the deck and crews getting doused. In other words, a typical day on the Bay!

Crew aboard Seaward

After an exciting (and often wet!) race, the crews sought the quiet and comfortable refuge of the San Francisco Yacht Club deck. The club can arguably be called one of the nicest yacht club venues on the Bay, and last Saturday was no exception as the crew sat down to enjoy the club’s excellent BBQ and a cold beverage (or two …).

This year’s Great San Francisco Schooner Race and Belvedere Classic looked to be a rousing success, and the boats, crews, and classic-boat fans throughout the Bay will surely look forward to the same next year. – Woody.

Jeff Hawkins took first place in the Schooner division aboard Jakatan , and Bill Clausen took first place in the Classic Yacht (non-schooner) division aboard Cuckoo . The brigantine Matthew Turner took line honors in a division of her own.

Great to see another Classics Regatta! The StFYC as part of the Rolex Big Boat Series also hosts a class for Classics in September! We hope to see more boats – and some from So Cal – in future years.
