A RICH HERITAGE SINCE 1842 The legacy of Riva began in 1842 in Laglio, Italy, nestled on the shores of Lake Como, when a visiting fisherman recognized young Pietro Riva's talent in boat repair. This humble encounter marked the inception of Riva's illustrious journey.

Pietro's craftsmanship extended beyond repairs as he ventured into building fishing boats. His son, Ernesto Riva, inherited his passion and craftsmanship, envisioning motorboats as the future. In 1881, Ernesto built the first motorboat, setting the stage for Riva's transition into leisure craft.

THE ERA OF MOTORBOATS AND SPEEDBOAT RACING After Ernesto's untimely demise in 1907, his son Serafino Riva took the reins, steering the family business towards leisure craft. Embracing technological advancements, Serafino propelled Riva into motorboat racing, captivating renowned pilots and elevating the brand's profile.

THE LEGENDARY RIVA RUNABOUT In the 1930s, Riva introduced the iconic mahogany runabout, which retained its popularity through the Second World War. Post-war, Riva continued innovating, catering to emerging trends like water skiing, while maintaining its commitment to timeless design and superior craftsmanship.

EMBRACING MODERNITY In 1949, Carlo Riva assumed leadership, initiating a collaboration with designer Giorgio Barilani. By the late 1960s, Riva yachts epitomized luxury and elegance, frequented by celebrities and immortalized in cinema.

EVOLVING OWNERSHIP In 1991, Rolls Royce acquired Riva, followed by the Ferretti Group in 2000. Under Ferretti's stewardship, Riva renewed its focus on quality, design, and style.

History of Riva

Riva was founded in 1842 by Pietro Riva in Sarnico, a small town on the shores of Lake Iseo in Italy. Initially focusing on repairing and constructing small fishing boats, Pietro's craftsmanship quickly earned him a solid reputation. Over the decades, the business passed through generations, with Carlo Riva being a pivotal figure in the company's history. Under Carlo's visionary leadership in the 1950s, Riva began producing luxury wooden speedboats, most notably the iconic Aquarama, which became synonymous with elegance, quality, and performance.In the 1960s and 70s, Riva's boats became a symbol of opulence, attracting a wealthy and celebrity clientele, including the likes of Brigitte Bardot and the Shah of Iran. These boats were not just marine vessels but status symbols, embodying the "Dolce Vita" lifestyle. 50m Riva superyacht Fifty for sale

The 49.9-metre Riva motor yacht Fifty has been listed for sale with Ben Bartlett of Y.CO .

Fifty was launched in 2021 as the second unit in Riva’s flagship Riva 50 Metri superyacht series designed in partnership with Officina Italiana Design . Inspired by the yachts of Carlo Riva, the design is a modernised take on the classic 1964 Riva Caravelle, with the same parallelogram windows and forward-sloping lines that give the impression of movement.

Built from steel with an aluminium superstructure, the model was conceived as a penthouse on the water with a contemporary interior and a volume of 499GT. Accommodation is for up to 10 guests across five cabins including a full-beam master suite with an office area and an adjoining gym, and an en suite finished in marble.

An emphasis is placed on outdoor living with the help of a large sun deck with a dining area, bar, BBQ, sunloungers and Jacuzzi, as well as a double-platform beach club. Awnings can be set up to cover all exterior decks.

Power is provided by a pair of MTU 8V4000 M63 engines, delivering a top speed of 15.5 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. Built to Lloyds class, she can travel up to 3,500 nautical miles before needing to refuel and is fitted with Naiad fin stabilisers.

The breadth of the company's lineup was greatly influenced by the collaboration with the Ferretti group, which took place in 2000. Due to the growth of production capacity, Riva has significantly expanded the range of manufactured models and opened an additional representative office in Sarnico. Today, the shipbuilder produces about 100 boats and yachts per year, which indicates an exclusive approach to shipbuilding. Everyone who wants to become the owner of a Riva yacht should become a long queue.

More than a century and a half has passed since the creation of the Riva brand. For so many years, the lineup has undergone many changes and today includes 4 classes: Superyachts, Open, Flybridge, Sportfly. The line is represented by yachts with flybridge, sports modifications, open cruise yachts, super-yachts in hulls made of composite materials, as well as runabouts.

The company's latest development is the flagship aluminum yacht Riva 122 'Mythos. The model has record dimensions (length 37 meters) and combines all the latest technological developments of the famous shipyard.

First introduced in 1976, The Irwin 52 quickly became the  most  popular cruising center cockpit sailboat on the market.  In 1988, the boat evolved into the Irwin 54 with a major redesign of the hull, deck and interior. “Patience“ is one of the last Irwin 54’s and possibly the best ever built.

“Patience” was ordered new by her original owner in 1989 and commissioned in 1990. The concept was to utilize the basic clever design and create a vessel of not just outstanding beauty, but also a yacht that is flawlessly executed and engineered to a standard normally seen only in larger vessels. The spectacular result is not only a "go anywhere" yacht, but also one of absolute luxury, total privacy and short-handed style.

Interior Description

“Patience” sleeps six persons in three private cabins, excluding the main salon, with optional sleeping space in workroom.

She has a stunning interior that really has to be seen to be fully appreciated. (See the 3D Virtual Tour) She was designed and then customized around luxury, quality and functional elegance. The interior is truly gorgeous and maintained in show condition at all times.

Starting forward is VIP Stateroom with centerline queen berth.

Next aft to starboard is the Guest Cabin with a double berth.

The Guest Head is to port and features a separate shower stall and a separate door to the Vip Stateroom and another door that opens into the hallway. 

The huge raised Main Salon features large fixed ports, offering a panoramic view outside. To starboard is another  “L” shaped settee and dining table. Next aft is a desk and breakfast bar.To port is a  “L” shaped settee followed by a large Chart Table. Here is located the electronic switches for AC and DC Systems. A large flatscreen TV is located above and navigation instuments are outboard. An eight bottle wine cooler is located below.

Next aft and down two steps is the Galley. The galley on “Patience” will appeal to any cruising gourmet and is equivalent in size to what you'd expect on boats much larger. The galley provides ample counter space, cabinets and drawers for storage. Opposite the galley is the separate laundry room and complete walk-in workshop.

The en-suite Owner's Head has a separate stall shower/tub.
