Kona Catamarans

Warning: Before embarking on any outdoor activity, make sure to check with lifeguards for current conditions!

One of the best ways to take full advantage of the beauty of the Kona Coast is to explore it by Kona catamaran tours . With calm, clear waters, excellent weather, and a spectacular coastline protected by 14,000 mountains, it’s almost as if Kona’s waters were made for catamaran sailing. One of the most stable ocean-going vessels and ranging in size and type, Kona catamarans are the most popular type of watercraft in here. Praised for their speed and stability, catamarans in Kona consist of identical length twin hulls with a cabin, deck, or trampoline webbing in between. We can personally attest that Kona catamaran cruising is one of the most fun and fulfilling things you can do on your vacation !

Kona Catamaran Charters

One of the coolest “cats” in Kona is Kamanu Charters’ 36-foot custom catamaran. The super-friendly crew of Kamanu has been sailing Kona’s waters for 40 years and offers some of the best sailing tours in town. From snorkeling to whale watching  to sunset sails , they have it all. If you want to avoid the crowds, family-owned and operated Paradise Sailing Hawai‘i specializes in small intimate groups and hands-on sailing. Paradise Sailing Hawai‘i is one of the newest catamaran charters in Kona, and they pride themselves on personal service and guest comfort. Departing from Keauhou Bay, Sea Paradise offers visitors a first-class Kona catamaran tour experience complete with snorkeling. With several tours to choose from on their state-of-the-art vessel, their offerings include sails to Kealakekua Bay and nighttime manta ray adventures. If you are a sailor who already knows the ropes, almost all catamaran operators in Kona offer private charters.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Why choose Paradise Sailing Hawaii for your private boat charter?

We pride ourselves on maintaining a well kept, clean and comfortable vessel. When comparing charter companies on the Big Island, we advise you to consider some of the often overlooked factors that can affect your experience on your private charter.

  • Is there shade and is it big enough for more than just a few guests?
  • Are there decent restroom facilities on board?
  • Are there seat cushions or will you be sitting on hard fiberglass the whole time?
  • Are there tables for your food or will you be holding your plate on your lap?
  • Are there drink holders so you can safely set down your cocktail when you are tired of holding it?
  • Can you easily move about the boat without having to crawl on your hands and knees?

Being an owner operated small business, we strive to give our guests the best possible experience we can provide.   Please read our reviews on Trip Advisor to find out how much others have enjoyed sailing with us!

Eden was an excellent guide! Very knowledgeable and fun. Answered all questions and engaged with my kids when they shared their knowledge. Small tour made it feel personal, and great value for money for the time and expertise.

Lots of fun to see fish with my family, some of whom were uncomfortable scuba diving. The crew was friendly and views incredible.

The boat was very clean, and prepped for our ashes-scattering. Amy was very helpful, and responded to questions I e-mailed her either the same day, or the next. She was very informative, telling us where the boat was going to go, how we could scatter the ashes, and telling us about fish we saw through the glass bottom. The captain was able to get us over reefs that were very close to shore, even with strong currents. Great boat, great weather, great crew. I highly recommend it!

Fantastic. This might not be for people who get sea sick easily, as the waves made it super choppy. But we had fun! Also got a small refund (which we didn’t ask for and were pleasantly surprised by) due to poor visibility in some spots. Highly recommend.

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai's ocean pool

With postcard-perfect white sand beaches and dramatic black lava fields, luxe rooms, five-star service, and a new, modern steakhouse from superstar chef Tyler Florence, there’s a lot to love about Hawaii’s Four Seasons Resort Hualalai .

King's Pond swimmable aquarium and pool

But the most unique feature of this Big Island resort actually sits below the surface of one of its eight spectacular outdoor pools. The King’s Pond is a one-of-a-kind 1.8-million-gallon saltwater aquarium where guests can swim with 1,000 tropical fish while learning about marine life and conservation.

The resort is about a 10-minute drive from Kona International Airport (KOA)

Rooms & Suites

All of the resort’s guest rooms, suites and villas got a recent refresh, with contemporary interiors that feel light, bright, spacious, and relaxing.

Prime Ocean View King

Guest rooms start at 635 square feet, while suites start at 1050 square feet.

The resort also offers three spectacular villas , which feel private, tranquil, and totally opulent. The suites range from 3,740 to 5,253 square feet, and sleep up to 6, 8, or 10 guests.

The Beach Tree pool

There are eight spectacular outdoor pools — including designated kids, adults, and quiet pools — as well as an ocean pool on the gorgeous beach.

But even with all those options for swimming and lounging, the King's Pond swimmable aquarium steals the show. The 1.8-million-gallon saltwater marine habitat is totally unique to the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai . Marine life lovers of all ages can swim with 1,000 tropical fish from 60 diverse species, including some rescues.

The aquarium and the adjacent Kumu Kai Marine Center are staffed by five on-site marine biologists, who offer interactive programming for kids and adults alike. Budding marine biologists can learn about marine conservation, help out with daily feedings, and snorkel and swim with Kainalu, the resort’s resident eagle ray.

The bar at Miller & Lux Hualālai

The resort boasts a range of top-notch options for dining and drinks, from casual grab-and-go coffee, smoothies, and breakfast burritos at the popular Hualalai Trading Company, to oceanfront cocktails at Beach Tree bar and lounge. A pop-up of Sushi and Robata by ‘Ulu also serves sashimi, nigiri, and robatayaki-style grilled meats and vegetables at tables surrounding the picturesque King’s Pond.

The resort's new Tyler Florence-helmed steakhouse is an outpost of Miller & Lux in San Francisco

But the resort’s newest and buzziest dining option is Miller & Lux Hualāla i — the Hawaiian outpost of celeb chef Tyler Florence’s celebrated steakhouse in San Francisco.

Miller & Lux Hualālai overlooks the 18th hole of Hualalai Golf Course

At this gorgeous open-air pavilion overlooking the 18th green of the adjacent Hualalai Golf Course, Florence showcases signature dishes from the original M&L location, married with local Hawaiian ingredients. Diners can tuck into M&L’s famous 45-day dry-aged wagyu tomahawks and New York strip steaks, tableside Caesar Salad for two, Kauai shrimp cocktail, and steak tartare featuring Big Island beef.

Sustainability Efforts

The resort practices a number of impressive sustainability initiatives , from water conservation measures to the elimination of single-use plastics (including water bottles and bathroom amenities), and the planting of 50,000 indigenous koa trees in partnership with Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative.

On the culinary front, guests can tour the on-site herb garden as well as the new sustainable oyster pond, where the bivalves are harvested along with amberjack and shrimp found on the resort’s menus. In fact, more than 75% of their food and beverage ingredients are sourced from 160+ local farms, fisheries, and other purveyors.
