Steve Jobs’ Feadship Yacht “Venus” is en route to the United States

News has come that Steve Jobs’ yacht, “Venus,” has set sail en route to her new home in the United States. She is currently located in the main port of Tenerife, off of Morocco in the Canary Islands, and one can only assume that she is preparing to venture across the Atlantic ocean. Although all Feadship yachts are impressive, this yacht has a unique profile that makes yachting enthusiasts take a second look. At 230, and with lots of windows nestled into the crisp profile, this yacht lives up to the modern influence that the owner’s company has cast into the world. The “glass helm” has a stunning layout and all systems can be monitored, controlled, and displayed through the seven iMac displays in the helm. Aside from the screens you will find a throttle, rudder control, and a few other simple controls (like a mouse for the computers) but this proves to be one of the cleanest helm layouts that I’ve ever seen. Cleverly,  above the helm deck, the navigation equipment has been covertly concealed behind walls which make the yacht have a consistent style from the water line all the way to the very top.

Aside from all the publicity circulating around “Venus,” Feadship also received a lot of praise in 2012 in regard to the 287′ Feadship “Musashi.”  “Musashi” is the winner of the Neptune prize at the ShowBoats design awards. She was also named Best Custom Built Yacht at the Asia Boating Awards as well as received the World Yacht Trophy in Cannes.

Feadship Launch Steve Jobs' Yacht Project 'Venus'

By Ben Roberts

The highly secretive superyacht project 684 Venus was reportedly launched this weekend by the revered Feadship yard in Holland. Understandably the shipyard is unable to comment, however, reports across the world highlight that the commissioning client and designer of this incredible 78m Top 100 motor yacht is believed to be the late Steve Jobs – a true icon in the world of design and technology.

Details are scarce at the moment, however the Dutch technology blog One More Thing has introduced a few dedicated images to the world media as well as a video of the sleek and characteristic superyacht which holds all of the expert design elements of an Apple product.

The yacht, aptly coined as ' a floating stack of Apple products' by the Guardian, is widely believed to be created in collaboration between the former Apple CEO Steve Jobs and the French designer Philippe Stark.

Venus is ranked as number 88 in the Superyachts.com Top 100 Largest Yachts in the World roster.

Steve Jobs’ superyacht breaks cover

The so-called "iYacht" hits the water in Aalsmeer, Netherlands.

Superyacht Venus , commissioned by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, has been launched by Feadship at its facility in Aalsmeer, Netherlands.

The superyacht, which has been three years in the making, is the product of both Jobs himself and renowned French designer Phillipe Starck .

The aluminium structure of the 260ft (78.2m) yacht is complemented by enormous swathes of glass throughout. The view looking out over the bow from the main deck should be absolutely spectacular.

Imagery of the yacht is thin on the ground but it seems clear that nods towards Apple design pepper the interior, like the row of seven 27″ iMacs on the bridge which run the yacht’s systems and navigation equipment.

Feadship’s director Henk de Vries said: “Feadship has a world-class reputation as builder of the finest luxury yachts. Sometimes word gets out about one of our yachts. Understandably, our clients value their privacy greatly and consequently we never discuss our owners’ identity.”

See it here first: amazing photos of Steve Jobs' yacht Venus post-refit

The first photos of superyacht Venus after her refit in France have been shared with Boat International . In August this year, 78.2 metre  Feadship superyacht Venus , built for the late Apple founder Steve Jobs, was spotted as she was heading in for a refit at Monaco Marine in La Ciotat, France and photos were taken of her hauled out on the hard at the refit yard.

The new photos show  Venus  emerging from her refit with a gleaming hull, and close-up pictures give an look at intriguing details of the yacht. The bridge on  Venus , for instance, is packed with Apple computers, fitting for a yacht designed for Steve Jobs. The photo above shows that there are seven Mac screens sitting in superyacht Venus ' glass-enclosed bridge, a hint at the technology packed bridge that she is meant to have.

One of the best Feadship superyachts of all time , Venus has a wealth of interesting design features, from her highly innovative glass exterior design to the reported high-tech amenities. The yacht is extremely secret, however, with no interior images ever seen, which is why a photo shoot like this is all the more interesting, giving us an up-close view inside Venus ' bridge and a look at her tender garage, the latter seen in the photos below. A RIB tender is visible stowed in the portside tender garage.

Photos of Venus seen earlier this year showed off some serious scaffolding built up around the yacht, but it was not confirmed whether she was in for maintenance or a more extensive refit.

This isn’t the first time Steve Jobs’ yacht Venus has spent time at a refit yard; she was spotted at the Rybovich yard in Florida just a year after her launch in 2013.

With an immense use of glass and high-tech propulsion and helm set-up, the boundary-pushing superyacht Venus is an interesting challenge for a refit team as she is far from your average superyacht.

Engineering of the futuristic-looking  Venus  came from Feadship’s team at  De Voogt Naval Architects , and a notable feature is her clever upper deck design that conceals communications and TV receivers.

Venus has turned heads since her launch at the Dutch yard in 2012. The yacht’s super-slick, minimalist design by Philippe Starck seemed a perfect fit for the Apple founder. Sadly, Steve Jobs passed away in 2011 before the yacht was launched and never got to enjoy his vessel.

But Venus has been making moves, recently spotted island hopping in Greece. Follow in the wake of Venus with this nine-day cruising itinerary of the locations visited by Steve Jobs' yacht in the Turkish and Greek islands.

VENUS Yacht – Captivating $120M Superyacht

The VENUS yacht was delivered in 2012 by Feadship, a Dutch shipbuilding company.

Phillippe Stark designed the VENUS, and Jobs was an integral part of the yacht’s design. The 78m yacht has garnered a lot of attention thanks to the famous name who commissioned it, but there are not many details about the boat’s interior available.

VENUS yacht interior

The interior design of the VENUS yacht was largely designed by Steve Jobs, in combination with Philippe Starck .

The yacht’s interior has never been published, and the details available are in short supply. There is a lot of intrigue as to what the yacht’s interior looks like, thanks to the famous name who commissioned it.

One can only imagine that the interior reflects Apple’s slogan “Think Different,” with an eye-catching and minimalist interior to reflect the design of the yacht’s exterior.

It is known that the bridge is lined with 27-inch Mac computer screens, with large cabin windows that are almost floor to ceiling, with a main living area. There is accommodation for 12 guests in 6 suites and 22 crew.

The VENUS yacht has a unique exterior, reflecting the sleekness and eye-catching nature of Apple’s products, and was designed by Philippe Starck.

Feadship was commissioned to execute the build. Everything about the exterior is eye-catching and unique, from the silver paint job to the stainless steel details to the line of rectangular windows that run from the bow.

The structure of VENUS features 90-degree angles, an axe bow for piercing waves, and a flat and somewhat unusually squared stern that opens to reveal a tender garage.

There is no visible radar arch or satellite equipment, as all the equipment is hidden within a box that keeps the VENUS exterior appearance clean and sleek.

Specifications

The 78m VENUS yacht has an 11.8m beam and a 3.1m draft that makes the boat appear low-slung in the water.

The 2 MTU engines give VENUS a top speed of 20.5kn and a cruising speed of 18kn. She displaces 1,876 GT and can cover 5500 nautical miles.

She has an annual running cost of $10-$15 million and was rumored to cost $100 million to build. VENUS was refitted in 2015 at Monaco Marine.

Steve Jobs' former yacht Venus collided with another superyacht off the coast of Naples

  • Venus, the yacht built for Steve Jobs , collided with another yacht off Italy's coast.
  • It's unclear which yacht struck which or when exactly the crash occurred.
  • With a minimalist design, Venus is one of the world's most iconic superyachts.

Insider Today

Venus, Steve Jobs' former superyacht — now owned by his wife, the philanthropist and investor Laurene Powell Jobs — has collided with another superyacht off of the Italian coast.

A spokesperson from Powell Jobs' Emerson Collective who spoke with a crewmember confirmed to Business Insider that Venus, the 78-meter yacht Steve Jobs commissioned, had collided with Lady Moura, a 105-meter yacht. The collision happened on July 22 off the coast of Naples, Italy.

The spokesperson said that only crew were onboard the yacht and that both boats were anchored when a sudden change of wind led to the collision.

Venus is cruising in the Ligurian Sea, while Lady Moura made its way to Mykonos on Wednesday, based on publicly available tracking data from Marine Traffic.

Videos posted on social media show the strikingly minimalist Venus and the Lady Moura coming into contact. It's not clear from the videos which superyacht struck which, though someone who said they were aboard the Lady Moura seemed to blame Venus' crew on social media, SuperYacht Times reported. The person said the damage was "only a scratch, albeit a significant one that will be costly to repair."

Others on social media said that the Venus appeared to be moored and that Lady Moura seemed to have swung into the boat. BI hasn't been able to independently verify either claim.

The Italian Marina Militare didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. The owner of the Lady Moura couldn't be reached.

No matter how little damage may have been done, insurance will probably cover it. Yacht insurance , which can cost six figures each month, is one of the largest costs incurred by yacht owners.

Venus, built by the top yacht-builder Feadship, was delivered after Jobs died in 2011 and was worth $130 million upon completion. The Apple cofounder was heavily involved in the design process alongside the French architect and decorator Philippe Starck.

"Venus comes from the philosophy of minimum," Starck said of her design. "The elegance of the minimum, approaching dematerialization."

Jobs and Starck spent four years working on her design, the designer told Vanity Fair , holding monthly meetings to discuss her specifications. She has six identical cabins, was built to maximize absolute silence, and, upon delivery, included the most up-to-date technology.

"There will never again be a boat of that quality again. Because never again will two madmen come together to accomplish such a task," Starck told the magazine. "It was not a yacht that Steve and I were constructing, we were embarked on a philosophical action, implemented according to a quasi-religious process. We formed a single brain with four lobes." August 7, 2024 — This story has been updated with a statement from a Laurene Powell Jobs spokesperson.

Superyacht VENUS has returned home to the Feadship facilities to begin her second refit since her launch in 2012, which will include her five-year Lloyd’s certification as well as system upgrades.

The famed 78m/256ft mega yacht constructed for Steve Jobs has remained a secretive build: De Voogt Naval Architects designed her exterior profile with few details known about her interiors except that Philippe Starck was commissioned to complete the project.

2 x MTU 16V 4000 M73 diesel engines provide a cruising speed of 16 knots and a top speed of 22 knots and her on board accommodation is designed for up to 12 guests.

After her launch in 2012, 78m/256ft mega yacht VENUS underwent a refit in 2015 at the Monaco Marine La Ciotat . Her second refit will take place at the recently rented Harlingen facility and will be the first of many refits at the yard for a busy autumn/winter season. Luxury yacht ECSTASEA is also expected at the Makkum yard later in the year.

Feadship has seen an increased demand for quality refits, particularly from owners of Feadship superyachts who want to maintain or upgrade and retain the same seamless quality as when the yachts were first launched. To meet this demand, Feadship has hired the facilities of a fellow shipyard to accommodate 81m/266ft M/Y AIR , and ‘Feadship Refit & Services’ will launch in the final quarter of 2017.

Updated: What is French designer Philippe Starck working on for Apple? Prior to his death, Apple CEO Steve Jobs was working with Starck on a yacht. And this is very likely the “fairly, if not very, revolutionary” project he was talking about. To be built by luxury superyacht builder Feadship, the yacht is believed to have a very minimalist and sleek design with a main feature being 40 foot long glass walls. And Starck has been involved in its design. Mentioned in the New York Times from Walter Isaacson’s new biography of Steve Jobs, which was released last Monday, the late Apple leader was working on creating his very own Feadship superyacht. Jobs didn’t like the normal yacht designs so he decide to design it himself, not a surprise, creating a super luxurious yacht to rival his good friend and fellow yachtsman Larry Ellison.

“The book also offers some tidbits about Mr. Jobs’s legendary attention to detail, which, according to Mr. Isaacson, extended to a luxury yacht that he began designing in 2009. The design is sleek and minimalist, with 40-foot-long glass walls. It is being built in the Netherlands by the custom yacht firm Feadship, the book says.”

When asked for a comment, the Netherlands-based Feadship responded by saying, “Sometimes, word gets out about one of our yachts. We often build for captains of industry, royalty and other leading individuals. Understandably, our clients value their privacy greatly and consequently we never discuss our owners’ identity. We choose not to comment.” Our sources have suggested that the boat will be based on Feadship’s recent Breathe concept ( shown below ) — which was showcased at the Monaco Boat Show 2010 and drew praise for its natural imitation of forms, shapes and patterns. How Zen!

Update: Steve Jobs’ “unmanned” yacht collides with Lady Moura

In an official update provided to superyachtnews, it appears venus’ bridge was unmanned at the time of a minor collision that has sparked debate online….

feadship steve jobs yacht

An eyebrow-raising incident occurred off the coast of Naples, Italy, on 22 July 2024, involving a collision between Venus , owned by the widow of Steve Jobs, Laurene Powell Jobs, and Lady Moura , owned by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego.

In a statement provided to SuperyachtNews by Grupo Salinas, it appears that the bridge of Venus was unmanned at the time of the collision.

“ Lady Moura was anchored in the Bay of Naples at a depth of 40 metres, deploying 7 shackles of chain, which meets the minimum requirements for safe anchoring under the given conditions,” the spokesperson explained.

“This was calculated in accordance with the standards of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). The length in metres was determined using a coefficient of hold of 5, or per the Admiralty method, which calculates the number of shackles as the square root of the water depth in metres, multiplied by 1.5.

“Several hours later, Venus arrived at the anchorage and seemingly misjudged the length of the chain deployed by Lady Moura. A sudden and violent squall with winds of 50-55 knots from an unexpected direction—different from the prevailing forecasts—led to the impact between the vessels.”

However, despite numerous efforts by the crew of Lady Moura to alert the crew of Venus by blowing the whistle and hailing on the radio, “it appears that the bridge of Venus was unmanned”. Notably, neither vessel dragged anchor during the event.

“Thankfully, the damages to both yachts were minimal and cosmetic. Within hours, both parties resolved the situation amicably and professionally. Grupo Salinas appreciates the professionalism demonstrated by all involved and the swift resolution to ensure the safety and integrity of the vessels and their crews.”

Footage from the crash, posted on 7 August, has since sparked considerable debate online.

The video, shared by Pliego on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows the 78-metre Feadship drifting towards Pliego’s yacht before making contact with the 105-metre Blohm+Voss yacht, despite cries from the crew. Both vessels were anchored in the bay at the time.

“You won’t believe this, but our yacht was hit while we were in Naples,” said Pliego in a tweet.

“Steve Jobs’ yacht, founder of Apple (now owned by his wife Laurene), hit us while we were anchored off Naples. I’d like to know what the captain and crew were doing that they didn’t see a yacht the size of mine in front of them.”

Pliego added that the collision ultimately resulted in nothing more than a scratch; however, it will need substantial funds to repair it. The billionaire then jokingly suggested to his followers to “go and buy Apple products to help them pay”.

Whilst the spokesperson has since noted that the crash was due to a change in wind, the competency of the crew has come under fire, with many questioning how this incident was possible in the first place.

“The crew on the yacht Venu s were twiddling their thumbs; there’s no way they couldn’t see the Lady Moura ,” says Fabian Alonso (@fabianla69) on X.

“It’s incredible that no crew member came out to place a fender anywhere; it seems like a ship adrift,” adds cafas (@cafascafas).

Despite the incident, the yachts have since cruised elsewhere, with Lady Moura now in Mykonos, Greece, and Venus sailing in the Ligurian Sea.

“Here is the video, so you can see that there is no shortage of idiots in the world and understand how important it is to have a responsible and attentive captain in command,” adds Pliego. “There’s no other way, we’re going to continue enjoying our holidays.”

Steve Jobs' Mega Yacht Wrecks Billionaire's Floating Palace

I n a dramatic maritime mishap off the coast of Naples, Italy, the mega yacht Venus , owned by Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs, collided with another luxury vessel, the Lady Moura .

The incident, which involved two of the most luxurious yachts in the world, occurred while both ships were anchored.

Man Falls Asleep on Swim Ring, Drifts Into Open Sea for 19 Hours

The collision was captured on video by the owner of the Lady Moura , Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego, who shared the footage on Instagram .

The video shows the sleek Venus heading directly toward the side of the larger Lady Moura , despite frantic efforts by the crew to alert the approaching vessel with whistles and shouts.

"The yacht of Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple (now that of his wife Laurene), rammed us while we were anchored off Naples," Pliego explained in his social media post.

He questioned how the crew of the Venus failed to notice his massive yacht.

According to news reports , including confirmation by a spokesperson from Powell Jobs' Emerson Collective, the collision occurred on July 22 due to a sudden change in the wind.

Neither Laurene Powell Jobs nor Ricardo Salinas Pliego was on board their respective yachts at the time of the crash.

Despite the impact, the damage was minimal, with Pliego describing it as nothing more than an "expensive" scratch on his ship.

The Venus , designed by the renowned French designer Philippe Starck, is considered an iconic vessel built for Steve Jobs. Reportedly, the cost of construction was well above $100 million.

The Lady Moura has been known as one of the most lavish yachts in the world since the 1990s. Among the more extravagant additions, this "floating palace" is complete with its own onboard hospital, helipad, and even a beach.

Morgan stanley international chair jonathan bloomer among 6 missing after yacht, the bayesian, sinks off italy.

Morgan Stanley International chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife are among the six people still missing after a mega-yacht sank off the coast of Italy Monday morning, according to officials and reports.

Bloomer remains unaccounted for after the Bayesian, a 184-foot luxury sailboat, capsized with 22 people aboard off the port of Porticello after it was struck by a tornado, said Salvatore Cocina, head of the civil protection agency in Sicily.

His wife is also missing, the Daily Mail reported .

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, 59, and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, have also not been found since the ship wrecked.

The Italian agency also confirmed that Chris Morvillo, an attorney at British law firm Clifford Chance, which represented Lynch in a massive fraud case in California earlier this year, is also missing, the Guardian reported .

Morvillo served as an assistant US attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1999 to 2005.

The Post has reached out to Morgan Stanley and Clifford Chance for comment.

The ship’s chef, Canadian-born Thomas Recaldo, was confirmed dead by Italian officials and his body was recovered.

Christopher Morvillo

Bloomer, reportedly a close friend of Lynch’s, is also the chairman of insurance provider Hiscox and was formerly the chief executive of Prudential, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Fifteen others onboard, including Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares — who owns the ship — and a 1-year-old girl, managed to escape the superyacht before it went down. The boat was carrying a crew of 10 people and 12 passengers when it sank.

Eight of those rescued were taken to local hospitals, officials said.

Charlotte Golunski, 36, saved her 1-year-old daughter , Sophia, from the sinking ship by keeping her afloat in the rough waters.

Domenico Cipolla, a chief physician at the Di Cristina hospital in Palermo, said the mother and daughter are recovering.

“The baby is doing well,” he said. “The mother is also in good condition, albeit with some minor abrasions. The father will also be discharged from the hospital soon.

What to know after a tornado sank the yacht Bayesian off the coast of Sicily, leaving five dead and two missing:

  • A superyacht capsized off the coast of Sicily after a tornado hit the area early Monday, killing three passengers and leaving three others missing.
  • The first two bodies found inside the wreckage of the Bayesian superyacht were identified as British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his teenage daughter Hannah, according to a report.
  • Two more bodies have been recovered but have yet to be identified.
  • Lynch — known as “Britain’s Bill Gates” had invited guests from Clifford Chance, a legal firm that represented him, and Invoke Capital, his own company, on the voyage,  according to the Telegraph .
  • Security camera footage shot from 650 feet from where the  Bayesian sank Monday  shows it slowly disappearing.
  • Italian authorities have said the chances of the remaining passengers surviving the disaster were very small, but “never say never.”
  • A r are and unexpected “black swan” weather event may have led to the  Bayesian superyacht’s speedy demise , maritime experts say.

“They have said that most of them were colleagues who worked for Lynch. They are deeply traumatized,” he continued. “As time passes, they realize more and more that this morning they lost many friends.”

The Italian coast guard deployed divers to the wreckage to search for survivors some 160 feet deep.

Authorities believe some of the missing passengers may have been trapped inside their rooms when the yacht sank, BBC reported.

Lynch, a billionaire once dubbed the UK’s answer to Steve Jobs, was acquitted just two months ago by a San Francisco jury of fraud charges linked to the sale of his software company, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011.

The trip had been organized by Lynch to celebrate his legal victory, the Daily Mail reported.

In a shocking twist, Lynch’s co-defendant in the case, Stephen Chamberlain, died on Monday after he was struck by a car in Cambridgeshire, UK, Reuters reported . Chamberlain, the former vice president of finance at Autonomy, was 52 years old.

The Italian coast guard deployed divers to the wreckage to search for survivors some 160 feet deep.

The Bayesian was built by Italian shipbuilder Perini in 2008 and was last refitted in 2020. It is owned by a firm called Revtom Limited — of which Bacares is named as the sole shareholder.

The captain of a boat that was anchored next to the Bayesian told Reuters he had turned on his engine to keep control of his vessel and avoid a collision with the giant yacht when strong winds suddenly rolled in.

“We managed to keep the ship in position and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone,” Karsten Borner told reporters. The other boat “went flat on the water, and then down,” he added.

He said his crew found some of the survivors on a life raft — including Golunski and her baby — and took them on board before the coast guard picked them up.
