Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Ciara Duggan Reveals Why She Split From Paget Berry: ‘I Need To Move On’ (Exclusive)

Sailing ahead! Ciara Duggan is speaking honestly about her split from Below Deck Sailing Yacht costar Paget Berry and revealing what went wrong.

“There were a lot of reasons that it kind of broke down. Being in France, we weren’t quarantining, we weren’t stuck together or anything like that,” Ciara, 23, told Us Weekly exclusively on Wednesday, April 14 about the breakup. “We were there just kind of living life, but you know I was taking temporary jobs and I just kind of realized throughout taking those jobs that I was happier on my own for a lot of reasons.”

Ciara confirmed that she broke up with Paget, in December and that she wasn’t fully invested in the relationship anymore. “I loved him, but I think I was not in love,” she told Us .

The couple confirmed the end of their 9-month-engagement in separate posts earlier this month after fans questioned the status of their relationship.

Ciara first shared the news via Instagram after a comment asking her if she was still together with Paget.

“No,” the reality TV star replied. “Things happen. We’re still on good terms and wish each other nothing but the best.”

Paget followed up with his own confirmation on his social media.

“All good! Loving life at the moment personally and we are still friends,” he wrote in an Instagram comment.

The pair originally started dating in 2016 and then both appeared on the first season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , which premiered in February 2020. Following their time on the show, the couple revealed that they were engaged in July 2020.

Ciara clarified that the split was “bound to not work out” since she was 18 years old when the relationship started. “I never really wanted to get married, if I’m being honest,” she said to Us .

The pair are still on “good terms” and continue to communicate occasionally. “There’s no bad feelings between us and I wish him nothing but the best. I need to move on with my life and I need to do what I need to do for me, and he needs to do the same,” she explained. “We’re still in good terms and we’re still friends. I wish him nothing but the best. I hope he finds someone who’s better suited … Neither of us is malicious, which is what matters. We have too much of a history to just not care about each other.”

Paget and Ciara did not return for season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , which is currently airing on Bravo. During their time on the show, fellow cast member Georgia Grobler revealed her feelings for Paget as the charter season was coming to a close.

Ciara clarified to Us that “there’s nothing bad” between her and Georgia and that “it wasn’t even a surprise” that there was a third party thrown into her relationship during the show.

When asked if cheating played a factor in the split Ciara declined to comment.

While Ciara and Georgia haven’t kept in contact, the Below Deck alum has received support from other castmembers since the split. “ Jess [More] was the first person I told and confided in [about the breakup] so she’s been really supportive. I mean, Jess is amazing anyways. She’s been my no. 1, my best friend throughout this whole thing,” Ciara shared about her newfound friendship with Jessica, who appeared on the fifth season of Below Deck Mediterranean .

Ciara revealed that Captain Glenn was another cast member that was there for her, saying, “I contacted Glenn pretty much as soon as we broke up, and I was like ‘Glenn, I need to talk to you. I need some fatherly advice.’ So we had a long chat about it.”

Captain Glenn weighed in on that bombshell and whether he thought there was a chance Georgia would be invited to Paget and Ciara’s wedding.

“I mean, Ciara stayed friends with Georgia, you know? So, who knows?” he told Us in March. “I was impressed by it because, I mean, I think she was really big about the whole thing.”

The captain said that he was proud of how Ciara handled the situation at the time.

“I mean, a little flirtation is OK, but maybe if you push it to the edge, then people, even though they pretend they’re not feeling it, I think maybe they’re a little upset,” he said to Us . “But, you know, that’s Paget. Paget should be more responsible than Georgia. But then Georgia as a friend shouldn’t push the edge.”

Season one of Below Deck Sailing Yacht has landed on Netflix and fans want to know if Paget and Ciara are still together, nearly four years after the show was filmed.

Fans of the reality TV series are used to seeing the Below Deck cast fall for each other while working in close quarters. But unlike many of the romances that blossom while on board and fizzle out pretty soon after, Paget and Ciara had been together for several years before they appeared on Below Deck Sailing Yacht . However, working as exterior crew together for the first time seemed to take its toll on their relationship, and they were often filmed bickering while at work.

Three years after the season first aired, it's now landed on Netflix. And much like the streaming service's viewers want to know the fate of other reality TV romances - from which Love Island couples are still together to are Raven and SK still together from Love Is Blind - now the same is being asked of Below Deck . Here, we reveal if Paget and Ciara are still together and where they are now...

Are Paget and Ciara still together?

Paget and Ciara are no longer together. In March 2021, Ciara revealed the news on her Instagram story, after replying to a curious follower who asked whether she was still with Paget. She said: "No. Things happen. We’re still on good terms and wish each other nothing but the best."

Despite their many ups and downs during the charter season, Ciara and Paget remained together after the first season of  BDSY ended. The pair even announced the exciting news that they were engaged after more than four years of dating, so for some it's a shock that they have gone their separate ways.

Why did Paget and Ciara break up?

Ciara told US Weekly in April 2021 that one of the reasons she and Paget broke up was because she was happier on her own.

Describing the period of time after Below Deck Sailing Yacht - when the pair had moved to France - Ciara said: "There were a lot of reasons that it kind of broke down. Being in France, we weren’t quarantining, we weren’t stuck together or anything like that. We were there just kind of living life, but you know I was taking temporary jobs and I just kind of realized throughout taking those jobs that I was happier on my own for a lot of reasons."

However, she added the pair were on good terms, saying, "There’s no bad feelings between us and I wish him nothing but the best."

Meanwhile, Paget echoed this sentiment during an Instagram live with the season 2 stews in May the same year - adding that he and Ciara were still in contact.

Where are Ciara and Paget now?

Both Ciara and Paget are in new relationships, and Paget is engaged. The first mate shared on Instagram in August 2022 that he had proposed to his girlfriend Johana Mills, with a sweet video montage.

He wrote in the caption: " I am so proud of you and all that you are achieving and I am super stoked to be your Fiancé and future husband🤵🏼👰🏽‍♀️ Never change ❤️".

It appears the pair have been together since at least November 2021, which was when Paget posted a video of their trip to Costa Rica , which showed them kissing on a beach.

Meanwhile, Ciara posted a snap with her boyfriend on Valentine's Day this year, captioned "Happy Valentines Day mi amor!!! Beyond grateful to have you in my life ❤️❤️❤️".

Ciara is also the proud owner of a dog named Yuki and frequently shares photos and videos of the pup both on her own Instagram and a separate account dedicated to Yuki .

Much like Ciara, Paget – who was born and raised in England – was interested in sailing from his early teen years. Although both, Ciara and Paget, had several years of experience in the yachting industry, it was their first time working together in the same department. Right off the bat, Paget had trouble figuring out how to act as Ciara’s boss and boyfriend at the same time, which made him question their four-year-long relationship. As the season passed, Paget got closer to another crew member named Georgia and even got caught in a compromising position with her by Ciara. Naturally, this raised some tensions between the couple.

Despite facing so many ups and downs during the course of the season, Ciara remained optimistic as she was excited about her career and future with Paget. After the inaugural season of the reality show was done airing, Paget proposed to Ciara, and the couple got engaged in July 2020 while they were in Italy. They shared the news on social media while several cast members expressed their excitement in the comment section. However, since late 2020, fans have noticed that Ciara and Paget have not been featuring on each other’s social media posts. This has got all of us questioning if the couple has called it quits?

Unfortunately, Ciara Duggan and Paget Berry decided to go their separate ways after several months of engagement. Presently, Paget Berry is in a happy relationship with his new girlfriend, Johana Mills. A video he posted in November 2021 hints that they may have started dating sometime then. Johana is a regular presence on his social media, and the new couple looks very much in love. On the other hand, Ciara appears to have found the love of her life — her dog, Yuki. She introduced Yuki to her fans in April 2022 and hasn’t stopped posting about him ever since then. Apart from that, it seems that she has a lot more time to focus on her career and herself. Thus, even though Paget Barry and Ciara Duggan are no longer a couple, they seem to be quite content with their respective lives.

After the massive success of Below Deck and its spinoff Below Deck Med , Bravo decided to test the waters on a new iteration of its hit series earlier this year. That's where Below Deck: Sailing Yacht came in, taking place on a luxury sailing boat, the Parsifal III, adrift in the Ionian Sea.

Jenna MacGillivray

When the Canadian stepped onto the Parsifal III, fans got exactly what they hoped for in a chief stew—a no-nonsense leader who also had a romantic spot in her heart for the chef in the galley. Though her relationship with Adam Glick proved to be tumultuous, the two dated for some time after the season wrapped, even taking some time to road-trip together.

These days, Jenna is enjoying some time off from yachting, but given her recent IG pics, she's excited to come back to another charter season.

Madison Stalker

Wherever Madison went, drama always seemed to follow the second stew during season one of Below Deck: Sailing Yacht . In between epic meltdowns (including a major one between her and Jenna over her lack of enthusiasm for her job), she left the boat a better person and leaving fans ready to see more from their new favorite cast member.

Judging by her Instagram account, she's taken a break from yachting (perhaps until next season of the show).

Georgia Grobler

As good of a third stew Georgia was on deck, fans were more invested in her budding music career and growing feelings for a very taken Paget. She proved she was great at her job and could make a career out of yachting.

While it's unclear whether she stayed in the yachting industry post- Sailing Yacht , Georgia's working on music, premiering new music videos on IGTV during the quarantine.

Below Deck Med fans were so excited when Adam joined the crew as the chef for Sailing Yacht . While he abided by the preference sheets this time around, he also began a rocky romance with chief stew Jenna, making most of the crew members wonder if he was there for his job or the girl.

Since the show wrapped, Adam's busy onshore, cooking, and traveling with his adorable puppy. Oh, and Adam has a web series, Stoked , where he travels across the country to meet with local chefs and learn about their regions... all while over a campfire.

Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan

If there was any couple to root for from the entire Below Deck franchise, it's Paget and Ciara. The duo made a great team on deck, and mostly kept their relationship to a minimum on cameras—a first for Bravo! As they were the most familiar with the Parsifal III, the couple was the most reliable, and fans loved seeing their relationship continue blossoming post-filming.

These days, the couple has a lot to be excited about—they're now engaged. While they're soaking up their romantic bliss, they're also still working in yachting, although it's sadly on separate boats.

Byron Hissey

As the chief engineer of Parsifal III, Byron was clearly there to just do his job. But, given how he was the only cast member to have a wife and child back home, he also became the dad of the group, taking care of the other crew members.

Since filming wrapped, it looks like Byron is back on a boat doing exactly what he does best—fixing and making sure the engines run smoothly.

Parker McCown

Relatively new to the yachting industry, fans are more likely to remember the deckhand for his enraged rant about being breastfed by his mother. While he didn't necessarily have all the skills to make it as a deckhand, he definitely had a soft spot for his ex-girlfriend Kaiti, whom he eventually left Parsifal III to go back to at home.

It looks like the decision to leave the show worked out for Parker, as he's now engaged to Kaiti and writing some tunes while onshore.

Chris Miller

As Parker's replacement for the latter half of the season, Chris proved a great deckhand and an asset to the team, all while battling an injury.

These days, Chris seems to be taking some time off from yachting to travel across Europe.

Captain Glenn Sheppard

Captain Glenn was tough, fair, and not afraid to have a good time, which both crew and guests very much appreciated.

Thankfully, his reality TV experience hasn't turned him off yachting forever. Glenn is still the captain for Parsifal III and traveling through the Mediterranean.

'Below Deck' Finale: Did Paget just confess his love for Georgia? Fans say it's evident the 'douche' wants her

Bravo aired the finale episode of 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' this week. Over 17 weeks, the crew entertained charter guests and viewers alike with their services and pot-stirring tendencies, respectively.

And the tradition continued even as they served the final group of charter guests, especially Georgia Grobler, who almost created a wedge between Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan. On Ciara's birthday, Georgia told her that she had feelings for Paget. It was a few seconds laced with awkwardness, guilt and tension. Ciara said she knew about it and didn't say a word to Georgia and that offended her because, in her head, it meant Ciara never considered her competition enough and was probably never scared to lose Paget to Georgia. 

A fan had the perfect explanation as to why Ciara couldn't care less about the situation at hand: "Ciara and Paget are just very settled and complacent. They’ve hit that comfort zone. Not to mention it’s convenient. I feel like Ciara is like 'he’ll come around eventually... hopefully'. As Paget calls himself Georgia's number one fan while she plays his favorite song on the guitar, fans implied that he may be fighting his feelings for Georgia. This is because he said he couldn't have gotten together with her in this life because he's with Ciara. "In this life I could have never had, obviously, acted on that," Paget told Georgia as she wiped her tears. 

In his green room interview, Paget shared that he couldn't fathom what Georgia must have gone through because underneath that funny exterior lies a sensitive person who is sharing all her feelings and emotions on the last day of charter. He did put out a request for those who are only genuinely interested in Georgia because she deserves someone who would treat her right. "Paget loves the attention from Georgia and obviously wants her too... him and Georgia are so out of line. Ciara needs to drop Paget... she could do way better! #BelowDeck #BelowDeckSailing," a fan expressed, while another shared: "Wow why is Paget talking to Georgia alone... Ciara you deserve to be treated better! #BelowDeckSailing."

"All I heard Paget say is, "I settled for Ciara. If I knew I could get someone like you years ago, Georgia, I would have picked you," a user tweeted. "Okay y’all if I was Ciara I would have a. Knocked Georgia the eff out and b. Left that douche immediately," another posted.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Stars Ciara Duggan and Paget Berry Split After 9-Month Engagement, Find Out if They’re Still on Good Terms

Below Deck Sailing Yacht alums Ciara Duggan and Paget Berry have called off their engagement.

Following a nine-month engagement, Ciara and Paget have split, but the two are seemingly still on good terms. Ciara shared the bad news on Instagram after a curious fan commented on a recent photo asking if she and the former first mate are still together.

“Are you still with Paget? Haven’t seen him in your pics lately… So pretty,” the fan wrote. Ciara responded, “Thank you! And negative.”

Once fans saw the news, several weighed in by telling Ciara she’s probably better off without Paget, who struck up a flirty relationship with a former stew, Georgia Grobler , while on the show.

“After seeing his behavior with one of the stews , you are so much better off without him,” one person commented. “You deserve better!”

“He was a douche,” said another.

However, the deckhand was quick to defend her ex-fiancé as she asked her followers to “be respectful.”

“Guys please be respectful, no need to bash anyone’s character,” she proclaimed. “We’re still on friendly terms.”

Unlike most boatmances within the Below Deck franchise, Ciara and Paget were actually together for several years prior to joining season one of the show. They met and fell in love when Ciara’s parents hired Paget to teach them about sailing.

Though their relationship was tested by Georgia, they declared their bond was stronger than ever once the season ended, and they announced their engagement via Instagram in July 2020.

“Well folks, it finally happened,” Ciara wrote in the since-deleted Instagram post per Bravo TV , along with a ring emoji and a smiley face.

Captain Glenn Shephard even discussed the pair’s potential wedding earlier this year when he was asked if he’d be officiating.

“I don’t know if I’m going to officiate, but I definitely plan to be there,” he told Us Weekly on February 24.

The former couple had also purchased a home together in France, which Paget dished to Bravo about in June 2020.

“We recently purchased a house in France a few months ago, so that’s a big step forward in our relationship,” he gushed at the time. “I’ve always said, ‘Look, the day you wake up and you don’t like me or you don’t love me, you just tell me, and we’ll deal with it when it comes.'”

Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan are engaged. Below Deck Sailing Yacht cast members have reacted to the happy news, sharing their love for the couple.

It has been over a year since the Parsifal III crew was together. However, the bond they share is unbreakable, well, at least for some of them.

Paget pops the question

“Well folks, it finally happened,” she captioned the Instagram post.

Paget shared a post with the same video and photos captioning it “I did a thing.”

The couple embarked on a romance after her parents hired Paget to work on one of their boats. They have been meshing their personal lives and professional lives ever since.

Their relationship came under fire when Paget got a little too flirty with third stew, Georgia Grobler , during the inaugural season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Ciara and Paget remained committed to each other, confirming they were happily still a couple during the virtual reunion.

It didn’t take long for Paget and Ciara’s posts to populate with well-wishes and congratulations.

Chief stew Jenna MacGillivray was one of the first to express her and happiness for the couple. “So excited for you guys. You deserve the world.”

Parker McCown also reacted to the news by teasing Paget. “Bout d#$m time boy, Parker wrote after congratulating the couple.

The newly engaged duo got love from Below Deck, and Below Deck Mediterranean cast members too.

Anastasia Surmava, Colin Macy-O’Toole, Kasey Cohen, Jamie Jason, June Foster, Jessica More, and Rhylee Gerber all shared their happiness for Paget and Ciara.

Fans, of course, also populated the posts showing their surprise and excitement for Ciara and Paget.

The ring is colorful and unique, just like the soon-to-be bride. Paget did a great job of finding the bling that perfectly suited his future wife.

They are currently in Italy, where they worked on a yacht before the coronavirus pandemic took over the world.

Fans are waiting patiently to see who will return for another season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht. A casting call has been put out , but Bravo has spilled no details regarding a second season.

Paget Berry from  Below Deck Sailing Yacht   confirmed he has a new girlfriend in a new Instagram video. Viewers may remember Paget from season 1 of the Bravo series as one of the deckhands on Parasafil III. He joined the yacht alongside his girlfriend at the time Ciara Duggan, who was also a deckhand. Despite Ciara feeling insecure about Paget and third stew Georgia Grobler growing friendship, the couple still left the yacht madly in love.

A few months after the series was done airing, Paget proposed to Ciara while working on a yacht in Italy together during the summer of 2020. However, after less than a year of being engaged, the couple decided to end their relationship. Ciara confirmed the breakup in the comment section of a photo she posted to her Instagram. She revealed that the former pair were still on good terms and wished each other nothing but the best.

On November 30,  Paget  went Instagram official with his new girlfriend by uploading a video of the couple's adventures in Costa Rica. " 4 weeks spent with this one in Costa Rica and this is what we have to show for it! " Paget from season 1 captioned the Reels video of their vacation. With Social House and Lil Yachty‘s song "Magic in the Hamptons" playing in the background, Paget's video showed the new couple enjoying wine in a jacuzzi, jokingly rubbing their backsides together in front of a waterfall and sharing a kiss on a beach at sunset. " We enjoyed it so much and cannot wait to go back! " he added. Despite introducing his new love to his followers, Paget did not reveal her name or tag her in the video.

Paget shared the video as a way to confirm he had moved on from his relationship with Ciara and how happy he is in his new romance. However, it seems his followers didn't get the memo on his break-up. One fan was confused by the new revelation as they recalled an old post of Paget congratulating Ciara on a new stew job. Paget replied, clarifying that the post the fan was speaking of was from 14 months ago. Paget and Ciara began a relationship in 2016, four years before their season of  BDSY  aired on Bravo. In July 2020, Paget proposed to Ciara while they were in Italy for work. However, their love didn't last much longer as they broke up five months later in December 2020.

Paget was madly in love with Ciara when the couple was together, but in the end, they weren't meant to be. Now the  Below Deck Sailing Yacht  alum is happy in his new relationship. Almost a year has passed since his break-up with Ciara, so now he finally felt ready to move on.
