Undeterred by the pandemic, two hundred guests sent a clear message of support at Kristi House reimagined Sky’s the Limit Gala on April 17, when the organization raised an amazing $580,000 for child sexual abuse and trafficking victims. The excitement was high with the announcement of a $100,000 Challenge Grant to Kristi House from Polly & Peter Appel. And guests were blown away by an epic auction donation from Mr. Alan and Dr. Brigitt Potamkin: A “Seafaring Escape”  aboard the Potamkin family’s glorious 130-foot Westport yacht, complete with captain, crew and chef for 10 people. This amazing auction item netted over $100,000 for Kristi House.

Gala guests were treated to gourmet adventures in culinary world “travel” experiences all over town. Conceived and executed by event aficionados Lauren Harrison Brown, Maria Maloof, and Priscilla Marrero, this year Kristi House’s annual signature gala was reshaped into mini-events featuring cuisine from France, Italy, Spain, India and the Mediterranean.

Chefs, servers, bartenders and DJs were dispatched to small group gatherings in 20 locations throughout Miami. Guests were connected by remote technology and their collective commitment to healing the victims of sexual abuse and trafficking. They generously bid in the auction and gave from the heart to support Kristi House’s work and the shared vision to eradicate these crimes against children.

All funds raised at Sky’s the Limit will go toward the emotional, physical and legal advocacy needs for children and their families overcoming the trauma of abuse.

New easy-to-navigate WOW Yachts launch

The 47-foot two-cabin WOW walk-around, designed by Setzer Yacht Architects, is operable via a joystick and travels 40 knots. Rendering Courtesy of Ettore D’Ovidio

WOW makes waves.

WOW. Yes, that’s right on all counts: the name of Claudia Potamkin and Sandra Yawn’s new yacht series , WOW, as well as “Wide Open Water,” “Women on the Water,” and the ocean’s “World of Wonder.” It’s also the reaction the two women hope their new yachts will engender.

Here’s the back story: The duo got together in 2007 – Potamkin loves yachting and Yawn is a seasoned captain – and they started a Miami-based chartering business, SK5 Oceans, with Defiance, a 72-foot Mangusta yacht.

Over the years, they discovered a niche market, and set out to fill it by reworking a boat’s “flow,” Yawn said. “Most boats have more indoor space than outdoor space, and we wanted a vessel that emphasized the outdoor space, so that people could be where they wanted to be: closer to the water.

“And many people, especially women but men, too, are intimidated by maneuvering a boat, and we wanted to create a product that was less intimidating through the engines we selected, as well as the layout.”

Their answer was WOW , which they launched this past February, in time for Yachts Miami Beach. Currently, prices start at $1.2 million, and they hope to have their first boat finished next February.

Their 47-foot two-cabin walk-around, designed by Setzer Yacht Architects whose portfolio includes collaborations with Delta Marine, Christensen, Trinity Yachts and The Hinckley Co., is operable via a joystick (which means it can be maneuvered sideways to the dock) and it goes 40 knots.

“It’s seaworthy and has the fuel capacity to cross to the Bahamas,” Yawn says. Its interiors were designed by Manhattan interior decorator, James Kieran Pine.

WOW offers two models with weather conditions in mind. The WOW Atlantic is more open than the WOW Pacific. Features include forward-facing lounge seating, sun-pads, optional sun-shade system, hardtop with optional sunroof, mid-cockpit wrap-around settees, a TV and entertainment system, LED lighting, a bar/buffet cabinet with grill, sink, ice, refrigerator and storage, and a swim platform with a dive ladder or optional powered swim platform with tender-launch capability.

“We’ve created a basic package, like a luxury car where there are components that owners can draw from, so we give direction, but there’s plenty of selections for owners to make the boat their own,” Yawn said.

Included in the price is an on-board boating safety course, and Yawn and Potamkin are creating a club/management component, similar to an auto Onstar service.

Also, a WOW yacht has a philanthropic side — it can become a Vessel of Discovery and accompany the environmental charity, International SeaKeepers Society , for research and cultural activities.

“Our yachts are good for new boaters, for people who are not aware that they can own and maneuver a boat. It will be that simple to do,” Yawn says.

Alan Potamkin drops $22M on luxury condo in Surfside

He sold his Coral Gables home for $44M last year

Rendering of the Four Seasons Private Residences at The Surf Club and Alan Potamkin

South Florida car magnate Alan Potamkin just closed on a new condo in Surfside.

Potamkin paid $21.85 million for unit 811 in the south tower of the Four Seasons Private Residences at The Surf Club, according to property records. He and his wife, Brigitt Rok Potamkin, financed the deal with a $14.2 million mortgage from Northern Trust. She was previously married to Miami real estate investor Sergio Rok.

In March, the couple sold their Coral Gables estate at 1 Casuarina Concourse for $43.7 million , a significant drop from the $67 million asking price. The three-story home had a myriad of features, including built-in saltwater aquariums, an aviary, a 1,500-bottle wine room and a 100-foot-long dock.

At the Four Seasons, their neighbors include hedge funder Daniel Nir , Theory co-founder and CEO Andrew Rosen, Aldo founder Albert Bensadoun, and New York real estate developer Howard Swarzman.

Fort Partners completed the project, which includes a 77-room hotel and two 12-story residential towers, about a year ago. Units range from $3.7 to $31 million, and from 1,800 to more than 7,000 square feet.

The development also features a private club, two restaurants, four swimming pools, cabanas, a gym and oceanside gardens. It was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier with Kobi Karp.
